Bruins Night in Canada?

Hockey Night in Canada has hired Mike Milbury as an in-studio analyst.

William Houston of the Globe & Mail writes Milbury was unable to reach an agreement on a contract extension with TSN and has signed with the CBC for two years plus an option.

He gets to work with his pal, Don Cherry. And Milbury becomes the odds-on favourite – displacing another former Bruin, P.J. Stock – to become the next star of Coach's Corner when Cherry slips farther into his dotage.

"I think it's a huge acquisition," Scott Moore, the head of CBC Sports, told Houston. "If he's not the best, he's one of the top two or three [studio
analysts] in the business."
Milbury will appear on the
Hockey Night pregame show and in the second intermission as part of the
Hotstove panel.

• In the New York Post, Larry Brooks reports "Scott Niedermayer is getting his money back ... all of it ... every
single cent of the $490,909.08 he was improperly fined by the NHL for
missing Anaheim's training camp last season."

• The Leafs will honour Wendel Clark's number 17 and Doug Gilmour's 93 this season in ceremonies that can't possibly match the majesty of the Tie Domi 1000 Games Night This is a break with tradition in Toronto, where the Leafs have heretofore only recognized the numbers of players who have died or their careers shortened due to tragic or catastrophic circumstance (Ace Bailey and Bill Barilko, whose numbers are the only ones retired).

• La Presse's Pierre Trudel weighs in on Benoit Brunet and speculates this might not be the last change at RDS.

• Joffrey Lupul has signed a four-year, $17 million extension with the Flyers.

Anyone think that the webmaster will tell Mike to keep his reports and his cronies to his own section and off the Main page after tonight? LOL

They should just put up a big CH test pattern and not let anyone post anything until Mats signs with the Canucks.

not a bad idea...

calling it a night !

Ok, so let's run through this right quick... HNIC theme song, no glen healy and no Milbury? Man, TSN just keeps getting better and better.

I wonder if this will really make the Toronto Sports Network better? Healy, annoying as he was, would at least speak his mind. And he did it without continuously trying to make all that concerned Toronto the most significant event in the entire world of sports. Milbury will now be replaced by another laff lover who can cozy up to Bob McKenzie and keep us up to date on what Luke Schenn had for breakfast. But I guess time will tell. Here's hoping you're right.
GO HABS.

yathehabsrule's picture

Yeah no kidding!!!And the CBC became even more anti-Habs than it was already!

Geez, HIO tonight reminds me of back in high school, when kids were starting to get bored with pot and looking for a new kick.

Truth be told, it's cheaper than an international conference call with this number of participants.

yathehabsrule's picture

Mike Milbury was the big news of the day...who really wants to discuss that?

Jay in PA's picture

Ironically, I was going to add that the new kick we moved onto was licking toads, so I figure that kind of fits.

You've got to give up the toad man.

I'm just gonna take a hit of crystal THC and go see Fantasia!

I always felt that Mary Poppins was as close as you could get to a drug-like experience as a child. Jumping into a drawing and dancing with penguins? Sure!

Hey, quit bogarting the Doritos!

C'mon...Wizard of Oz! Talking scarecrows, lions and tin men, weird little people running around!

You know, the munchkins got absolutely out of hand during filming. Got drunk, had some orgies, I'm sure DD can fill in all the details.

I have it on video.

The "heads" when I was in high school also liked to go to see Lasarium at the Hayden Planetarium. The show usually featured Pink Floyd or Zeppelin music.

yathehabsrule's picture

Laser Floyd!!! They used to do that at the McGlaughlin in Toronto too..

Hey didn't a bunch of people recently get blinded at some kind of laser show?

I was into John Waters movies. You haven't lived until you've seen Polyester with the scratch 'n' sniff card. You end up watching the whole movie through your nose, thinking, "What in this scene could possibly smell?"

DD's picture

Never pictured you as a scratch n sniff type, Jay.

I used to be, but now I just try to shower more often.

A teacher asks her class, "If there are 5 birds sitting on a fence and you shoot one of them, how many will be left?" She calls on Ernie .

He replies, "None, they all fly away with the first gun shot."

The teacher replies "The correct answer is 4, but I like your thinking."

Then Ernie says "I have a question for YOU. There are three women sitting on a bench having ice cream: One is delicately licking the sides of the triple scoop of ice cream. The second is gobbling down the top and sucking the cone. The third is biting off the top of the ice cream. Which one is married?"

The teacher, blushing a great deal, replied, "Well I suppose the one that's gobbled down the top and sucked the cone"

To which Ernie replied, "The correct answer is the one with the wedding ring on, . . . but I like your thinking."

In school the lesson was about the word "contagious." The teacher asked the class if anyone could use the word contagious in a sentence.

One girl raised her hand and said, "I had the chicken pox and I couldn't go outside and play because it was contagious."

The teacher replied, "That was good. Can anyone else use contagious in a sentence?"

One of the boys said, "I couldn't go over my friend's house because he had a cold and my mother said it was contagious."

The teacher replied, "That's good. Anyone else?"

Little Johnny said, "Last week when we had the snowstorm, my father took the snowblower and blew all the snow into my neighbor's driveway."

The teacher was upset and said, "That was a horrible thing to do. And besides, it has nothing to do with the lesson."

Johnny spoke up, "Yes it does. My father came in the house laughing, saying it will take the old contagious to shovel herself out."

I didn't hear about that incident. There was a story going around locally that a leafs fan came to NYC last week, got loaded and was dared by a Ranger fan to piss on the third rail in the Subway. He did and had the most electric sexual experience of his life!

yathehabsrule's picture

next critical decision of the night...Wendy Mesley on CBC's the National or Lisa Laflamme on CTV Newsnet..or wait for Anne Marie to come on the air on the Weather Network..
