dont forget the sam roberts band, they are another good montreal band. although they are probably too hippy-ish for hockey players haha.
Ok, well, this has prompted me to say something.
I have been reading HIO for a long while now, however have always shyed from commenting myself.
After seeing a few players Ipod lists I just have to say something.
Is it a prerequisite for a NHL player (or most althletes) to listen to horrible radio dribble? Price, Latendresse, Tom, come to mind..
And even the NHL.com has a music article once in a while..
Seeing Habs Fan in SF's post about montreal bands etc. I have decided that this is the best time for me to add my two cents.
Here is a quick list of all montreal bands that would be a breath of fresh air to hear at the games instead of that awful U2 song, and those out of date 90s dance tunes..(wow)
Arcade Fire - Keep the car running
Wolf Parade - This hearts on fire
Stars - Take me to the riot
The Dears - Ticket to immortality
Tiga - Louder than a bomb
Malajube - Metronome
Chromeo - Fancy footwork
And, yes I do agree, that these songs may not be the best for a sports event... but I assume that is a relative question... since many of us cringe at hearing Shaggy inbetween plays :P
Also, I know that many players use their Ipods mainly for workouts, but honestly, just because you know the song like the back of your hand, does not automatically make it a good song.. but i digress.
Just go pick up the Nike workout album mixed by LCD Soundsystem. It has been made specifically for 45-60min workouts.
well, sorry to waste all you hockey minded ppls time with this non-hockey comment. As i tend to digress further and further into the black hole of personnal taste vs. popular taste.
Keep up the good work everyone.
I will leave you with a hockey comment:
Drop the puck all ready!!
Thx.

Do I listen to pop music because I am miserable?
Or am I miserable because I listen to pop music?
Whats wrong with Tom's music selection? All of those bands are sick the only questionable one is Panic, but they've had a #1 single.
Obviously it just comes down to a question of personal taste, because music is valuable to those it inspires.
I guess its like wine...
We all know that the wine you can buy at the depaneur is bad. But if you dont know better, and enjoy the bottle you bought, then it's doing its job..
Do I listen to pop music because I am miserable?
Or am I miserable because I listen to pop music?
Which of those bands are pop foo fighters? Majority of them are alternative rock, metal, etc.
Somewhere around the 90s pop became a term to describe only crappy radio music like Britney, Christina, Backstreet boys , all that teenie bopper stuff... which is a shame. However when I used the term "pop" I meant it as its pure sense. popular music. (which we can argue is everything and anything)
I agree that most are alternative rock, but in the actual sense of the term, alternative rock IS pop music. :)
Classifications suck... so restraining.

HOLY CRAP THE IMPACT WON THE CANADIAN CHAMPIONSHIP!!!

Look at the poor-sport sourpuss Toronto fans!!!
http://www.impactmontreal.com/PepePhoto/Images/Photo19-5503.jpg
Love the Habs. Loved the Expos. But living in Toronto I have to admit that I support TFC before the Impact.
The atmosphere at TFC games here is the closest thing I've seen to football (soccer) games in Europe. Thank God TFC is the only Toronto team I support.
I agree, the passion and loyalty of the TFC fans are IMO the best in the MSL far none.
I, for one support them as well.
Perhaps Mats should watch some game footage of our fans to see what it means to be a Montreal Canadiens fan.
I for, one believe life goes on without the Swede.
No passion or desire for him to win a Stanley Cup and in all places Montreal!
"We will win the Cup only with Carey Price in the nets"
im sure if montreal had a mls team they would match or even surpass the enthusiasm of toronto fc fans. me, personally, i could care less about soccer, but i was happy that the impact won the canadian championship. now maybe if the impact were an mls team i would pay more attention.
"Soundoff: What would you give Mats Sundin to come play hockey in Montreal?"
I know most of you are too shy to make your hockey views publicly known but the Montreal Gazette is asking you to submit your opinions on this subject.
The much more important question that I would like to ask Sundin is what would you give to our club if we invited you to be part of our centenial cup run this year sir.???
Perfect answer. See you on Saturday mon ami.
Your exactly right Ian.
I wonder if Mr. Tin Man Mats needs a heart transplated to a Habs' heart which symbolizes the love and passion to play for the greatest hockey team in the world, the Montreal Canadiens! He must have a rusted one inside him for so long.
Ian, have a great time at your BBQ. Sorry I can't make it and thanks for the invite!
I'll give you a call sometime in August buddy!
"We will win the Cup only with Carey Price in the nets"
They say to keep it clean...that pretty much rules out anything that could work.
I find that if I avoid talking about the leafs, Don Cherry or CBC coverage of hockey, the American media and conservative political failures it is usually easy enough to avoid swearing too much.
Think positive thoughts like this:
"Gainey is our GM!"
And you'll get through it.
All of them should have Running with the Devil by Van Halen, that song always makes me feel like kicking some ass.
How about a little Rush. A great Canadian band with roots in Montreal, I believe their recording studio is there. I saw them at the ACC this year. The best show that arena produced this year.
Hey where's the Retro music from the 80's on some of our Habs' ipods?
Great 80's artists such as Blancmange, New Order, Until December, Cabaret Voltaire, Depeche Mode, The Cult, Lords of the New Church, Sisters of Mercy, Simple Minds, Fad Gadget, etc.... simply the best music of this era, IMO.
Anybody remember the Southern Ontario Alternative Toronto music station "CFNY 102.1...the spirit of radio" from the 80's?
By far, ahead of its time and one of the best FM radio stations for alternative music worldwide during the 80's which puts todays music to shame.
"We will win the Cup only with Carey Price in the nets"
these players play in montreal ... where's arcade fire? the dears? wolf parade? godspeed you black emperor? les breastfeeders? there's good stuff out of montreal. i think this stuff is too underground though for your average jock to get into.
What, no Greek folk songs?
First time any of the Habs puts a song I have on my iPod on his iPod list... and it's Ahead by a Century. Not what I was expecting, but a damn fine tune nonetheless.
Gotta say though, none of these guys has even remotely interesting taste in music. I guess they're too busy being hockey players to do any musical exploring... which is a shame.
Komi's been the worst so far. Nickleback?!?! Brrr. Shudder. :)
Hey Timo. I've been trying to get a hold of you but I'm being spamed. We'll I guess not anymore.
Hey T-Roy... I haven't been posting much lately... you know, nothing too exciting in the Habs land to get me all riled up and blame all the troubles evils of the world on Carbo :) But I have been checking the site pretty frequently.
I hate Nickelback but Gorges had Michael Jackson - Billie Jean...Choosing between the two is like choosing to have sex with Roseanne Barr or Rosie Odonnell.
I love Kostopolous but honestly, not to offend anyone. Its pretty generic DooDoo. And by that I mean crap, someones got to send him a beattles CD.
Gotta love those Habs.
YEATS___ I'm still slow at reading all the post but I just found the one of Gene Hackman's team from a few days ago. That is our team and as it is and deserves our support and respect. PERFECT
Hmm... I imagined Tom would be more into death or black metal kind of stuff. I agree with Longtimehabsfan - we are bored...
