Agent  J.P. – for J(ust) P(utting) you on –  Barry has told TSN his client is "not close" to making a decision about his future.

"He's avoiding a Favre-like mistake by taking his time," Barry said.

How old does this make you feel?

John Van Boxmeer, who moved to Switzerland two years ago to coach the Bern club, will spend the next month recovering after suffering a heart attack.

The 55-year-old van Boxmeer's condition has improved since falling ill on Friday, the team said in a statement.

He is expected to be back behind the bench when Bern plays the New York Rangers on Sept. 30 as part of the inaugural Victoria Cup tournament. The Rangers will play European club champion Metallurg Magnitogorsk of Russia the following night.

Van Boxmeer was the Canadiens' first-round draft choice in 1972.

His illness may be Van Boxmeer's first near-death experience since being one-punch KOed by Dave Schultz.

AS A 40 YEAR LONG HABS FAN, I AM TIRED OF THE INK THAT IS BEING WASTED ON SUNDIN ( MINE INCLUDED! ). TIME TO MOVE ON AND CONCENTRATE ON WHAT YOU HAVE NOT WHAT YOU HOPE FOR. LAST YEAR THEY COULD HAVE PLAYED FOR THE CUP, BUT THEY LACKED GRIT AND GOALTENDING WHEN IT MATTERED MOST. IF I WAS THE TEAM I WOULD BE MORE CONCERNED ABOUT WHETHER PRICE CAN REBOUND ( AS STATED BY JACK TODD) THAN IF A 38 YEAR OLD 30 GOAL SCORER SHOWS UP TO LEAD THEM TO THE PROMISED LAND. THIS IS REMINDING ME TOO MUCH OF THE CRAP THAT WAS PULLED ON THE DUCKS BY A COUPLE OF THEIR SO CALLED STAR PLAYERS LAST YEAR. FORGET ABOUT IT, AND CONCENTRATE ON WHAT YOU HAVE.THE HABS WILL GO ONLY AS FAR AS THEIR GRIT, GOALTENDING AND ABILITY TO SCORE FIVE-ON-FIVE WILL TAKE THEM, NOT WHETHER SUNDIN DECIDES TO SHOW UP.

I'm suprised that Mike Johnson wasn't able to find a home anywhere...I mean, this guy is a solid 3rd line who has some offensive upside (he did score 20 goals with the coyotes). There are still a few teams that need to fill out their rosters, and he'd be a great cheap pickup.

JasonM's picture

While he brings a strong two-way game and has some offensive upside the problem with Mike is that he lacks a physical game. The game no longer relies in crutching and grabbing and basically he gets outworked simply because as previously stated he lacks the heart to do what is needed and doesn't get his nose dirty.

Only thin about Mike Johnson is I would question his heart, he didn't seem to play with alot of emotion, intensity. Two traits alot of GM's are looking for.

All this talk lately about Swedes and music has me wondering if there is a good ABBA dvd out there (if I have to listen, want to see the women). And yes, I am old enough to remember disco, but man, it was all about the chicks.Any suggestions other then shot myself? Checked my music collection and the closest thing I have is Fleetwood Mac "Rumours" (a Stevie thing).

I know this has been said before, but I'm getting really tired of all of this non Sundin news. If he was seriously thinking of joining us this year for our 25th cup run, he would have announced it by now. Lets face it training camp starts in roughly 3 weeks, lets wish him well in retirement and tell him we will save him a seat for the stanley cup parade.

I don't know Bob or Guy, nor do I think of myself as anything but a diehard fan, but I do believe that Bob has something in the works. He has roughly 7 M in cap space, some exciting prospects trying to make the big show, with some veterans trying to maintain their spot on the bench. I believe a deal will be announced befoe the season opener!!

Yeah, it's been said to death! I stopped paying close attention to this entire Sundin farce quite some time ago, and I stopped caring, and will not give a rat's @ss unless I read one day that he has indeed signed with the Habs.

I will agree with you regarding Gainey....with 7mil in cap space, you can bet that he will have something else in mind (and that he also has a "drop-dead" date in his head as far as Sundin goes). The Montreal Canadiens do not revolve around Mats Sundin.

caper_5's picture

Couldn't agree with you more. Although Mats F. Sundin was a hab killer at times, he is not the end all for this storied franchise. I can't wait to start reading some real hockey news, not this Sundin Trek that we've been on for the past 5 plus weeks (say this in your best William Shatner voice, you know he's a montrealer you know!!!!!) Sundin phasers on Stun!! Probably a little to much trek there eh!

You're not serious, because if you are, I suggest suicide. A good ABBA DVD, now there's an oxymoron.

You might as well get it over with now.

Oooooo! Get my blue sparking suspenders out of the closet!! It's time for a comeback!!!

TommyB's picture

Geez yeats....while you were wearing those sparkling blue suspenders, and I will admit those ABBA babes were hot...this is where my head was at........

Sorry dude, but two much clothes here.

I'm sure I could fix that for you!

DD's picture

I just ralphed up my dinner. Thanks Bozo McBozo

I'm there for you boyo!

DD's picture

Now if we could get you out of the closet.

Yep, just livin' the straight lie!!!

On Crescent St in the old days, there was the Limelight Disco and it was very important which of the three levels you went to.

Playing this as the after-goal song next year would do more to sign Mats than most of the crap I've seen posted here!

I seem to recall awhile back on TV, spotting Abba performing and the two girls were wearing these skimpy white outfits (hot). However, since we have been praying at the swedish meatball altar then it is only fitting to immerse myself in the culture.Yah??

DD's picture

If you want to go that route, may I suggest Swedish Erotica. Now there's Swedish culture for you.

ABBA were just plain LAME. They were everything that was wrong with pop music at that time.

Hey ,I'm prepared to take one for the team here and if that involves me having to sleep with the two Abba chicks to get Sundin signed...then so be it.

DD's picture

Here's a little known fact for you, Frank. The women were really men and the men were really women. Keep that under your hat though, if this got out it would break the hearts of dozens of musically challenged ABBA fans.

Ahh!! The land where the men are men , the women look like them and the sheep are very afraid...baaaaah

I just wanted to share a link to the 2008-2009 Habs jersey. I think they changed the collar(?).

http://s7diod-isorigin.scene7.com/s7ondemand/zoom/flashb_zoom.jsp?compan...

The number 21273 makes me smile.

And that, ladies and gentleman, is the most beautiful jersey of all ice hockey franchises..
The players should beg to wear it..
How does it translate into swedish?

Jay in PA's picture

Why are the stripes on the sleeves uneven?

It's like stripes on a suit. They're tapered!

Jay in PA's picture

Have they always been that way? I can't believe I never noticed that!
