The Canadiens have signed free-agent defenceman Chad Anderson.
What a surprise! He's from Minnesota.
The team release:
Montreal Canadiens General Manager Bob Gainey announced today the signing of free-agent defenseman Chad Anderson to a one-year, two-way contract (2008-09). As per club policy, financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
Anderson, 26, spent the 2007-08 season with the AHL’s Philadelphia Phantoms. In 55 regular-season games, the six-foot-four, 217-pound blueliner amassed 13 points (2 goals, 11 assists), served 35 penalty minutes and finished second on the team with a plus-11 rating.
From 2003 to 2007, the Chisago, Minnesota, native played in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) for the University of Alaska Anchorage Seawolves. In four seasons with the Seawolves, Anderson compiled 49 points (16 goals, 33 assists) and 215 penalty minutes in 138 games.
In 2006-07, his final campaign with Alaska Anchorage, Anderson led all Seawolves defensemen with an NCAA personal-best 20 points (7 goals, 13 assists). He also finished second in the conference with 96 penalty minutes and third on the team with 89 shots on goal.
Anderson, a three-time WCHA All-Academic selection, captained the Seawolves for 15 games during his senior season.

All other tickets will be ordered on Aug.17th, and they will be singles scattered around the rink and I do not have a price on them until after we pay for the first 56 tickets.
Everyone needs to have a pay pal account set up on line to pay by credit card for these tickets. I just set up mine, here is how.
Go to www.paypal.ca and sign up.
Then when I give you Vicky's Pay Pal number to send in your payment, you will be set to go.
I have pulled every string in my bathing suit for all of you and there is not much left. So hang in there, and stay tuned, I might make everyone happy yet.

I know we all love the D-Men the Habs have but you know Belle was pretty good on the two WJC teams he played on and this chap, Anderson, was pretty darn good on a not so very good college team.
Do you ever wonder if Gainey really thinks (he whose name will not be written:) is going to sign and he already knows where he will cut salary?
Anyway both are good signings.
Back to bored.
I'm guessing these D-men will be some of the guys we call up in case of injury to our main D-corps since we seem to have an ample amount of extra forwards in case of injury in that area.

For those of us that are going thru Stubb withdrawl here is a report from our leader from Beijing .. by Dave Stubbs .. the Montreal Gazette ..... http://www.canada.com/montrealgazette/news/sports/story.html?id=64edd300...
Nightmare, thanks for that of Stubbs. Man, someday i would love to write like that. He writes, and I can visualise everything he saw on that run, it is so awesome for me to have this ability to comprehend what is written now.
I can now read my first olympics. I read on here 5 or 6 hrs. per day. Thanks for all the stuff you put up on here.
Ian
Just go to the top of this page and click what you want from the Gazette.
Duuuhh, I never thought of that!!! I'm so used to googling everything, I get the paper delivered everyday though.
That's cool Jim, thanks. I am going to be broke buying all my helpful friends rounds at the summit!!
Ian
You're most welcome. And remember, what you have to say is more important than how you say it. You happen to do both very well.
Ian,
You can type in "The Gazette Montreal" in your search engine and bring up the newspaper every day. Go to the sports section and you can read Dave's articles. Give it a try today.
Moey, thanks
Stubbs keeps in shape by running. I have to admire anybody with the fortitude to run, especially at 4:00 am.
I just jumped on the tsn site (http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/)and saw the Hab's emblem next to a picture of Sundin, then jumped over to read Boone's caption. I was disappointed as I was hoping this "thing" was over.
We call this the "Abba-gate" "Ikea-made-Saga" or the "Swedish-meatball mess"
Come up with your own your best name for this Sundin situation.

My own best name for this Sundin situation is ...BULLSH_T!!!...Take a pass on the LEAF CAPTAIN!!
Brian Costello running down the top 10 teams in the hunt for Tavares at The Hockey News:
"2. Toronto Maple Leafs. If the Leafs prove me wrong and make the playoffs, I’ll eat a printed copy of this top 10 list, shredded and doused in Tabasco."
I agree with most of his list, hes a bit hard on Nashville (middling goaltending) Last time I looked Dan Ellis was pretty damn good.
The Teach is vacationing in Toronto. He was seen today at the HHOF polishing off Lord Stanley's Holy Grail for us. Would you like to pass on a message to him?
" Drive is on for Cup # 25 "
Anybody know where "the teacher" has been recently? He practically lived here for June and half of July and now nowhere to be found. . . is he ok?
Why don't you just release the hounds and form a search party. It's the middle of summer, maybe like many of us, he just went on vacation.
Great idea, Brian. I'll see you in a couple of days when we dig up the body from your backyard.
Rats, another blown case Inspector Doug! As I suspected and someone posted above, The Teacher is on vacation in TO. Personally, I would have made Courny12 my prime suspect. Considering some of the stuff he allegedly does to said person on other hockey sites, he would have been your best best. Oh well, just turn in your Detective 3rd grade badge at the door at the end of today's shift. It's back to being a beat cop for you. Look on the bright side, I hear though that there are some really nice coffee shops in Cambridge, MA that will still give a flatfoot a cup of joe and a donut for free.
GTC-- We have 87 requests from 40 posters and they will only let us order 56 max for the block. After that we can ask for singles only, but they will be scattered and I am thinking a different price. The only fair way was to give the people that ordered 1 and the people that ordered more, 2 and try to get singles to fill everyones orders. But they told me nothing is for sure. I have a way of working with people and getting ahead.
I will do my best for everyone, rest assured.
IAN
Hey Ian, this may be a dumb idea but, what if someone else put an order in for tickets? Perhaps block off another 56 tickets?
I am planning on coming but my work schedule is weird so I can't make a commitment this far ahead of time.
