More fore play from Sundin

An Eklund rumour ... a Sundin sighting ... what was it the Boomtowm Rats sang about Mondays?

This just in from Ornskoldsvik:

Sportsnet caught up Greta Garbo at the Peter Forsberg golf tournament (see those bags in the background).

Doesn't Sundin look happy to have a good walk spoiled by questions about his future?

Jeez, and people say Heath Ledger looks scary in The Dark Knight.

"I haven't decided yet," Sundin said. "I think sometime in August I hope to come to a conclusion on what I'm going to do -- if I'm going to play or not this year."

Sundin said conditioning won't be an isssue, if and when. He works out year-round and is always in shape.

He looks like he's about 58 years old. Actually looks better than he did when interviewed during the Finals. Was surprised he actually made it through that interview.

Boone, love the site but your gonna lose a lot of users if you don't just let the Sundin B.S. alone for awhile until something actually happens. I know your just doing your job and that there's not much to talk about, but even though most people here want him on our team, you have to remember that until he is on our team, most of the people here should HATE him still and not give two s*%ts what he's doing or thinking about. I know I hate looking at that clown and know I'm almost hating that he might come to our team.......till I check his stats, then I don't mind. There's gotta be something else out there, there's gotta!!!!

I love Mike`s humour on the Sundin situation. Mr Boone keep up the good work. THis site is the best place for Habs fans. Guys, lets have some fun...we can`t always be too serious!

Did anyone else know this? I came across it just now, and it's very surprising. Alex Kovalev, Alexander Karpovtsev, Sergei Nemchinov, and Sergei Zubov were the first Russians to have their name on the Stanley Cup.

Like I posted twice before about Matts. No one will know anything until he announces on the 22nd of Aug.

was not aware your so tight with matts and his agent ian.

I have a better in than that. Let you know later.

Today, I will do the same for the Americans. This is the team of players who I would chose to represent USA if there was an Olympic hockey tournament right now: by The Puck Stops Here Goaltenders Rick DiPietro New York Islanders Ryan Miller Buffalo Sabres Tim Thomas Boston Bruins Defence Keith Ballard Florida Panthers Mike Komisarek Montreal Canadiens Erik Johnson St Louis Blues John-Michael Liles Colorado Avalanche Paul Martin New Jersey Devils Brian Rafalski Detroit Red Wings Ryan Whitney Pittsburgh Penguins Forwards Dustin Brown Los Angeles Kings Erik Cole Edmonton Oilers Chris Drury New York Rangers Brian Gionta New Jersey Devils Scott Gomez New York Rangers Patrick Kane Chicago Blackhawks Jamie Langenbrunner New Jersey Devils Mike Modano Dallas Stars Patrick O'Sullivan Los Angeles Kings Zach Parise New Jersey Devils Brian Rolston New Jersey Devils Paul Stastny Colorado Avalanche Keith Tkachuk St Louis Blues Reserves Phil Kessel Boston Bruins Peter Mueller Phoenix Coyotes Ryan Suter Nashville Predators This is the US Olympic Team I would chose if they had to pick a team right now, assuming the same roster makeup as in the Turino Olympics ... by The Puck Stops Here.

Drive_For_25's picture
Nice effort but who care's who they're gonna pick for us to beat?

TC's picture
Subtract Langenbruner, Modano, Tkachuk, and O'Sullivan from the forward lines and add Higgins, Connolly, Legwand, and Kesler. Last time out there was a concentrated effort by Team USA to go younger. I expect that trend to continue next time out. As for O'Sullivan, as of right now, I don't think he's ahead of the four I mentioned, especially with Burke as the GM and Kesler's size and style of play. T.C. tc.denault@habsworld.net

No Higgie ,you have a couple of old guys there?

Canadian Olympic Team .. by The Puck Stops Here .............. The Beijing Summer Olympics are underway. I thought I would make up a Canadian Olympic hockey team. These are the players I would put on a team if they played today. This is not a prediction for the 2010 Olympics where we imagine players are two year older than they are now and maybe some young players who are not Olympic ready have matured or that older players who are Olympic calibre today might no longer be at that time. Here is my proposed team: Goaltenders Martin Brodeur New Jersey Devils Jean-Sebastien Giguere Anaheim Ducks Roberto Luongo Vancouver Canucks Defence Jay Bouwmeester Florida Panthers Brian Campbell Chicago Blackhawks Ed Jovanovski Phoenix Coyotes Scott Niedermayer Anaheim Ducks Dion Phaneuf Calgary Flames Chris Pronger Anaheim Ducks Wade Redden New York Rangers Forwards Sidney Crosby Pittsburgh Penguins Shane Doan Phoenix Coyotes Ryan Getzlaf Anaheim Ducks Dany Heatley Ottawa Senators Jarome Iginla Calgary Flames Vincent LeCavalier Tampa Bay Lightning Brendan Morrow Dallas Stars Rick Nash Columbus Blue Jackets Mike Richards Philadelphia Flyers Martin St Louis Tampa Bay Lightning Jason Spezza Ottawa Senators Eric Staal Carolina Hurricanes Joe Thornton San Jose Sharks Reserves Jason Arnott Nashville Predators Robyn Regehr Calgary Flames Marc Savard Boston Bruins This is the team I would field for Canada if there was an Olympic tournament right now. I am assuming the same roster structure as the last Olympics ..... by The Puck Stops Here.

Ian Cobb's picture
Good job nightmare, but one problem. Take out Spezza and you could put any other center in with a heart.!

MikeL's picture
I agree. Canada cannot be bringing along players who score points with no heart. Spezza chokes under pressure almost as much as Joe Thornton. I would replace those two with two players with heart at the opposite ends of their respective careers. Joe Sakic scored 100 points last year and had nearly a point per game this year. He isn't done yet and should be the captain. Jonathan Toews will bud into a superstar as early as this year, and has more heart than Spezza could even dream of.

The Cat's picture
I would subtract Redden and put Mike Green of the capitals.

TC's picture
Subtract Redden and Arnott and add Boyle and Toews. Personally, with the way Redden's play has deteriorated the past few years I don't see him on the team. I've seen lists on the internet going 12 -14 deep at D without his name on it. Forward is going to be tough to crack, but here are guys not on your list all ahead of Arnott from what I'm reading, Toews, Roy, Jordan Staal, Gagne (if healthy), Briere, Smyth, Sakic (sentimental pick??), Cammalleri, and Richards. That being said it's going to be tough for somebody to crack the list of top 13 forwards, which seems to be a standard list from what I've read. T.C. tc.denault@habsworld.net

As much as I'd love to have Mats Sundin in Montreal...it's starting to look pretty much that he won't sign with Montreal. I think he's stalling for something. Whatever.... If he really wanted to sign in Montreal he would have by now. Do we really want a player that is not sure about anything? What's a matter with this guy? Let's go...away..gidi up...someone give him a double espresso and then some grapa. What else does Bob have up his sleeve?

a monk? HAHAHAHA. i actually only lived there for 4 years to go to University and then I moved out to San francisco, which is not quite a "monk" town. I've lived here for almost 7 years. wow, i think it's time for me to return to la belle province ... i remember we used to have heated discussions over your favourite hab (mats naslund) and mine (stephane richer)! oh and what was the name of that italian card game we used to play EVERY day at lunch? i tried explaining it to my girlfriend once, but i totally forgot the name of it. don't think you can private message on here. here's my gmail though. jamesontherocks@gmail.com

You cant really blame the guy. I really think he has known since June that he will be a hab and he is keeping it to himself so he can enjoy his summer. There would be more Montreal Habs papparazi in Sweden than at an all you can eat Lafleurs buffet. Sundin is a smart guy and once he comes out with it we will all understand why he kept it to himself. Grabovski was the compensation as I dont think BG would have sent him packing for a 4th round pick...no matter what happened in SJ in March. Good on him even though it is driving me crazy!!!

sidhu's picture
BG got a 2nd round pick and a prospect for Grabs

Geepers. How did it go again. Oh yeah. Gainey asked permission to talk to Sundin in advance, and some big mouth let it out. Meanwhile back at the Sundin Barry Farm they asked if instead of Montreal Barry could talk to the Rangers about Sundin. The Vancouver jumped and blew all the other offers away. So, I would suggest his mind on playing this season was made up in June when he wanted to see what the Rangers had to offer. Mr Sundin knows what he is going to do, and when he is going to do it. Even if it hasn't made it's way from his brain to his mouth.

Morenz7's picture
Agree with much of this, but Gainey didn't just ask permission. He offered to do a trade. They wouldn't have had to register the deal with the league until it was complete; still, it was inevitable it would get out because Sundin's agent was involved. He sought out other offers, prodding the Rangers to make their own deal with the Leafs, etc, etc. Otherwise, I'm with you. Barring Toronto and a no-trade clause, Sundin wanted a deal with NYR. Bob may be a very persuasive guy when he wants, but I'm not getting my hopes up on Mats.

sidhu's picture
From TSN, the Habs projected lines: AK46-Pleks-Kovy Higgins-Koivu-Tanguay Latendresse-Lapierre-SK74 Begin-Chipchura-BGL/Kosto Aside from the top line, I think TSN has it wrong. I don't think Tanguay plays the right side. Moreover, I think SK74 is ill-fitted with Lats and Max. Also, I think BGL and Kosto will be in the lineup and Begin will be the one on the fence. As it stands, the lines will look like: AK46-Pleks-Kovy Tanguay-Koivu-SK74 Higgins-Lapierre-Lats BGL-Chipchura-Kosto

Carbo doesn't keep lines together long but I see Lats and SK switching lines here.He plays best with Saku and then Laps and Chips switching as Laps is more of an "energy player" and Chips more a two way player. That would create 3 attacking and 1 energy line. All 3 attacking have a balance of offense with defense. They just keep coming ,wave after wave...JG

With you there Agree 100%

Robert L's picture
I dunno, reading between the lines, it seems he's got Montreal on his brain. I heard the interview on the radio, and it sounded more like this: "Mats Sundin may hab been showing flashes of brilliance on the golf course in his native Sweden, but the veteran centre showed no signs of making a decision on his playing future in the National Hockey League. In an exclusive interview with Sportsnet while playing at a golf tournament hosted by Peter Forsberg in Ornskoldsvik, Sweden, Sundin once again refused to confirm whether he will retire or return for an 18th NHL season. "I haben't decided yet," Sundin said. "I think sometime in August I hope to come to a conclusion on what I'm going to do -- if I'm going to play or not this year." The 37-year-old unrestricted free agent also reiterated that he hab no deadline for a final decision. "I never hab a deadline," Sundin added. "I know there hab been talk about first of August, but I never said . I hab said sometime in August hopefully I’ll be able to make a decision. I won't make that until I really feel comfortable with making a good decision." While Sundin’s agent, J.P. Barry, recently confirmed that there hab been as many as six NHL teams showing legitimate interest in the veteran centre, Sundin said that wasn’t playing a role in his decision-making process. "I haben’t even worried about any teams," Sundin insisted. "I'm just trying to bring my mind to a point where I can make a good decision whether or not I’m going to play hockey right now. That's my first decision and we’ll go from there after that." While many NHL players across the league hab already begun their on-ice workouts in preparation for training camps and the pre-season schedule, Sundin doesn’t think the drawing out of his decision will hurt his conditioning should he decide to return. "I stay in shape," Sundin said. "I work out all the time so I'm not worried about the hab, er, conditioning part."

Chuck's picture
I hab a feeling that Sundin isn't letting us in on the whole story. __________________________________
