RDS, which had the Bob Gainey scoop on Mats Sundin yesterday, reports Guy Carbonneau plans to switch Sergei Kostitsyn to centre.

Could work.

The kid is a terrific passer with superb hockey sense.

SK74 would be particularly effective centring his brother. Working with third-liners might be more problematic.

Hallelujah ! I've believed for a while that Sergei will make a productive centre. He has the skillset to excel in that area. All that needs to be done, is for Carbonneau, Jarvis & Muller to work with him on his faceoffs.

good move with s.koz to center.stick with the youth movement.give em time to develope and itll pay off.bob builds thru the draft and has had success.

I vote for Higgy at center.

Haven't we been through this already?

In Bob we Trust.

I second the suggestion. Higgy down the middle.

Ah cripes, another fatal error on HIO. I trusted a fart. Needless to say, I was wrong!

Jesus H. Christ and the entire Communion of Saints, Walter Mondale is being interviewed on PBS at the Democratic Convention. What a totally clueless knucklehead! Is he like the only dude from Minnesota that never played hockey?

Why don't we wait to see what the team looks like and who has a hot/cold start before we start dealing away players? Picking up free agents is one thing, but Higgins, Lats or Sergei could easily have a breakout season and we'd be right pissed if we dealt them before the exhibition games even started.

As it is Grabovski might break out this year -- I wouldn't be surprised, with all the ice time he's likely to get on a thin Leafs team. Much better to give our AHL talent a shot before we deal guys like Higgins and create holes in the lineup.

Besides, I'd like to see Chipchura get a shot at centring Laracque and Kostopoulos/Begin, with Lapierre between Sergei and Latendresse.

2. Josh Gorges on Montreal's attack: "They're comin', they're comin' and they keep comin'. Just line after line, wave after wave..."

Our best deals will be from the teams needing to get under salary cap. They will be looking for prospects / draft picks.

Look... The only reason thought... and the key word is thought that Gainey wasn't making a move is because he was never very open to the public... If he wasN,t talking, would we still think he was trying to make a trade... I say yes.. Bob always has a plan D...

I believe Gainey is always on the lookout and not always taking it easy.. So to say sits in his chair like usual... I really beg to differ,,,

caut - If you remember last year once the season starts there seems to be a time where no trades are made as each team starts evaluating their own roster and this takes months as they all think they have great teams. Then once things settle down trades become hard to make as the cap makes it difficult and it ends up with trading a size 11 right shoe for a size 11 left shoe so that is why i am happy that Gainey is at least taking a look at making something happen now rather than his normal rocking chair attitude. We still have holes and due to the Sundin saga we couldn't do much so now is the time to look for a bargain and obtain that asset which may not be there later or to hard to swing. Nothing major but a deal that will not hurt our core.

Bryan

A great GM needs a comfortable chair when he's contemplating the winning of the Stanley Cup.

Btw, if you look at the Habs of 3 years ago compared to today's roster, you'll find that he's been a pretty busy guy in overhauling this team.

Jim - All teams have changed in the last three years and if you call last year busy by signing Engelhardt,Trotter and O.Latendresse then i call it hibernation. The team simply got better faster than he expected as he was on snooze control but this summer i am happy yet the team hasn't been improved that much the depth is better and he's being pro active which i like. Once all the holes are plugged i will be the first to get in my lazy boy and enjoy the ride with the occasional bash on Carbo , of course , i'll be in touch.

Well you don't know what happened behind closed doors.. may be he didn't have the opportunities as he did this year.. Remember, we were not even close to making the playoffs according to most analysts... This year we have a chance at a cup.

He didn't try to make moves??? um. let me think... He tried for Shanahan... He tried for Briere... Got the Hammer.. Tried for Tanguay at deadline... he got Laraque and Tanguay this year... That doesn't sound like a man sitting on his bacon...

He also tried to get ryan smyth, scott gomez and chris drury. Gainey can't force these guys to sign here. All he can do is offer them money and years. Some posters like to complain that bob has apparently done nothing while sitting in his "rocking chair", but he has in a short period of time added serious depth at every position to the point where we are now in a big time position of strength to a makes trades. I would like for someone to name one team who is in a better position depth wise than we are right now. The people who always complain that we don't land big name free agents or make big trades all the time are the same ones who complain that we paid too much for them or gave up too much to get them. Long story short, they are never happy.

I remember sergei's first game which i believe was against the flyers sometime in the middle of december. I remember posting that he actually looks like a center instead of a winger due to his puck distribution abilities. I just don't know if he has played the position before in junior or back in belarus. I do know that he less than 40% in the face off circle last season, something he would need to work on without a doubt.

Whose the Biggest Team in the New NHL - the NHL S , M , L. .. On The Forecheck ..... http://forechecker.blogspot.com/

I made a comment to a Leafs fan on another site who said the Habs were too small. Montreal is middle of the pack and the Cup champs are the smallest team in the league.

If a man speaks in a forest where no woman can hear him, is he still wrong?

Habhopeful's picture

I think Mike Knuble would seem pretty expandable for the flyers, and hes been pretty steady during his years...2.8 Million cap hit and hes signed for 2 more years...hes a right shot, although he is 36 years old so he could be on the decline...Any comments on him?

"If I wanted to hear from an ass, I would fart..."

no thanks ... rather try chip and wait until the trade deadline

SUMMIT NEWS

WE JUST HAD ANOTHER FATAL ERROR ON OUR SUMMIT BLOG TODAY>

So here is todays news, we have a total of 81 people coming to the Summit

If you have not paid for your tickets on paypal yet, do so right away.

We have 6 tickets that have not been paid for, so who ever wants them, get in touch with myself or Robert ASAP.

Now that we know how many people are going this year, we will need to know who will need discounted hotel rooms, who will want to go on the Bell Center tour, who will be attending the pre game dinner (where we will auction off stuff, like a pair of season tickets, donated by Vicky, set of Gretsky hockey cards donated by Robert and much more that Chuck is getting from the Club) and who will be attending the after game get together.

Each Summit officer for each event will need this info so as to reserve a spot for you at each event. Stay tuned

Hello Ian... I'd LOVE to attend the pre and post game parties...

Just depends on the work schedule. But mark me down for both!

I've never seen so many recoveries from fatal errors in my lifetime. And, they talk about cats having nine lives!

Ian Cobb's picture

If you were to tell me what happens to your screen when you click on the word summit at the top of the page, it might help! BOZO

Ian ,when you click on the link on the tester of the summit page.It takes you into the Globe&Mail...you have been hijacked by the Globe&Mail.Didn't know they supported a team...must be that Sundin thing.

Ah crap, another fatal error! I spilled my beer!!!

Hope it is a Guinness instead of the Belgian stuff .

Damn right, with the exchange rate, you're much better off spilling a Guinness!

It says, "I see scary things in your future Boyo." "I can't elaborate, but there is stuff headed your way that will make you pee in your pants." "Be afraid, be very afraid!"

Jesus H. Christ, the same thing just happened to me. There is some really spooky shit happening on that site I can tell you. They better get in touch with Max Von Sydow and have him exercise the whole damn thing. You know, that whole "The power of Christ compels you thing!"

It's not Robert Burns Day already is it?
