“I have always enjoyed playing poker and partnering with PokerStars gives me the opportunity to challenge myself and explore the full potential of my game," Sundin says. "I believe the fighting spirit I’ve developed as a hockey pro will really help me at the tables."
Maybe Bob Gainey should try to sign Daniel Negreanu.
Hey Mats, how about a game of Texas Hold This.
• Canadiens are thinking about playing a game at Montreal's Olympic Stadium in December, 2009, Dave Stubbs writes.
• In the Journal de Montréal, Pierre Durocher looks at Bob Gainey's Plan B and floats the name of Robert Lang.
• Bruins acquire Stéphane Yelle.
• The CBC submissions in its contest to find a new HNIC theme song. What rhymes with "Toronto"?
• Junior coaching legend Brian Kilrea says this will be his last season.
• Sales of Sundin jerseys still brisk in Toronto.
• Michael Russo of the Minneapolis Star-Tribune talks to Marian Gaborik.
• Allan Muir of Sports Illustrated looks at the Northeast Division and wonders about Carey Price.
Here's an e-mail i sent PJ stock sometime last year
While listening to the All-night on the team tonight, they were discussing a change in the basketball all-star game format. The host mentioned that it would be interesting to have the all-stars compete in a 1-1 tourney...suffice it to say, its a great idea. It got me thinking, why not bring that over to the NHL. Forget the whole 1-1 idea cause we already have that in the form of the breakaway competition, but why not
1. 2-2 Hog
2. 3-3 hog or half ice
3. 2-2 tourney where every teams consist of teammates (kovy and markov take on, for instance)
4. Forwards vs Def vs Goalies
5. East vs West vs Goalies (giving goalies points based on shutout time or something along those lines)
Anyways, you get the picture. I'm sure the fans would love it, and the purists will accept it as a throwback to shinny days. Make an outdoor rink at the Molson stadium and host a rookie tourney for the fans to watch, and bring in the goons for an outdoor game or goon skills competition! That would be awesome and maybe you could come out of retirement for that one.
Most importantly, it wouldn't cost the league much to implement nor organize since ticket sales would easily return a profit...which at the end of the day is the bottom line!

2009 Stanley Cup Odds Released - vegasinsider.com .. by Sean Leahy .. Going Five Hole ..... http://goingfivehole.blogspot.com/2008/09/stanley-cup-odds-released.html
Was somewhat impressed until I noticed Toronto at 40-1 ,tied with Chicago.Damn "laffnation" has infiltrated everywhere.
That's a pretty unsightful article on the Habs and Price by SI. I know some of you feel the same way but I think the team fell apart (witness Halek playing at the same level when he started) against the Bruins and the Flyers. I wasn't impressed by their play, with Flyers shoving Price and Halek around, and the ruggedness (not) of the Habs. The Habs started the playoffs fine, then couldn't adapt to a changed game. Maybe couldn't maintain that tempo is a better term.
But I guess that's how it goes every year, find someone to point the finger at. Last year it was the kid, because 18 other men and four coaches couldn't have made errors.
And speaking of errors, how about the pro scouting staff, who did a horse#$%^ job of preparing the Canadiens for the Bruins and Flyers?
Disagree with that one. It's not like the Canadians playing the Soviets in '72. Our guys played those teams a total of twelve times during the regular season...they weren't strangers. I think it was a combination of inexperience, bad luck and their failure to adapt to a less silky playing style. Those things, barring the luck which is anyone's guess, will be different this year.

"less silky playing style",envy you writers and your creativity.
Disagree somewhat with you here Mike, believe in both rounds we were physically outplayed (playoff hockey) and Carey showed his age and or exhaustion. In the Boston series, we were further out coached and against the Flyers, ran into a hot goaltender and Lady Luck.
PS;Had actually forgotten about the pro scouts and had to go check who they were...but still feel the same about my last sentence.
Were we even watching the same games? We dominated Philly, and should have rolled right over them if it hadn't been for lady luck. Given we got manhandled at times, but we dominated those games in scoring chances...just couldn't find the back of the net.
I could be wrong, but nobody would be around to know!

All 81 Summit tickets are paid for now, thank goodness that is done. Now we have to receive them and mail them out to everyone in about two weeks.
There are hotel rooms left at the group rate. Hop to it.!
Going to Ottawa tomorrow to watch some kids with the 67s, and Robert's computer is down with a cold, Vicky is in NY for the weekend. So you kids are all on your own for a couple of days.

Tortorella hired by TSN for the 2008-2009 season.
Probably because someone mixed up his name: Tortorella sounds like Toronto.
On Brian Kilrea, he retires only from coaching this year but plans to stay on as G.M.
Guys, question? All NHL contracts are in US dollars, anyone know if the actual paycheque is converted to Canadian and thus a Canadian cheque is issued to each player playing on a Canadian based team?
U.S. funds contracts means being paid in U.S. funds.
Gilbert
2008/09 is the season of the Habs
Interesting question. I believe that they're paid in US dollars, but whether the cheque is actually in US dollars or is the value of US dollars is another matter.

Brian Kilray, a friend of mine, a hall of fame member, winning-est coach in junior hockey retires from the Ottawa 67s coaching ranks at the ripe old age of 74.
Many a player owes his development and pro career to this great hockey legion.
Two great Kilrea quotes:
On meddling parents (quoted in Gare Joyce's book on scouting): "All my best players have been orphans."
As related by Chris Stevenson, Kilrea told Shean Donovan, whose hard dump-ins would rim around the boards and result in a fast break-out and odd-man rush by the opposing team: "Donovan, I don't know if you're playing right wing for us or left wing for them."
Mike, he is retiring from coaching this year, but plans to stay on as G.M.
great quotes, but very true, he took a lot of kids that were a little lost in life and made successful men out of them.
Funny how the great hockey men in this world always reach out.
Mike,
Congratulations on turning 60! Have you applied for CPP yet? ;)
It's looking more and more like our poor downtrodden Habs will not have Sundown's services this season. I'm delighted......
Glenn, I don,t think there is any CPP left, I have been drawing on that account for years.!!
Darn, I was hoping for a little of that action in about 6 years or so.
Ian - 74? Hell, Mike Boone must be that age at least and he's still working at the Gazette every day!
The Original 24 Cups
Nah... Mike just looks it. ;)
