We love this guy already:
Georges Laraque (quoted in the Journal de Montréal) on why he wasn't at the Canadiens tournament on Monday:
"I don't like golf."
Good on ya, Georges.
And if his rep is to be believed, that might be the last charity function the big guy misses all season.
• Good pre-season analysis of the Canadiens at nhl.com
• It's official: Michel Bergeron and François Gagnon have joined the RDS broadcast team. And Joeël Bouchard replaces Benoir Brunet as Jacques Demers' in-studio partner. Oddman out: Alain Crête.
• Market watch: Jarret Stoll, four years, $14 million in L.A.
• Ticket prices going up.
• The crew at Entourage love hockey.
LA- clearly needing to pad their bra- I mean, their salary figures.
I
This is what I don't get. Koivu doesn't show up and it makes some francophones crazy. (I'm speaking about 110% TV show here)
Laraque doesn't show up.. and not one PEEP from the those people.. given that Koivu is the Captain.. Laraque is new to the team, wouldnt it demenostrate that he cares for the team? I mean here we are some people are complaining that Koivu not showing up means he has little heart for the team, he is supposed to make a presence to a GOLF tournament.. because it's SOOO IMPORTANT..
What I am saying is that neither of them are wrong in this situation.. you choose to go.. it shouldnt matter if you don't want to.. it's a god damn golf tournament for crying out loud, it shows NOTHING about a players heart to a team.. NOTHING.
Jesus, there are some people who really need to find a new day job or just a job...
I don't blame Laraque for not showing up. I also hate golf. Can't stand it!! In fact if it were any slower it would be called farming!!
Ha!
I don't blame them either -- I guess you could make the argument that as captain, Koivu has more of a responsibility to be there, but really, it's a frickin golf game.
1. www.flickeringpictures.com - not a hockey site, but still kinda neat
2. Josh Gorges on Montreal's attack: "They're comin', they're comin' and they keep comin'. Just line after line, wave after wave..."
I heard that on the radio this morning, our English sportscaster was commenting on how ridiculous it is. Laraque is a home town boy so all is forgiven no matter what, plus he can speak their language. That's what they've got against the European players, simply that they don't speak French, the Russians got the blame this year for an early exit from the playoffs. It's nuts, believe me I know, I live with it every day. I can't generalize it because it's certainly not all Francophones, but there is an "element" (we like to call it). If anything just have pity on them because they really don't know any better.
Oh no, one of the guys on CKAC was berating Laraque for not showing up as well. Laraque actually called in and challenged the guy. It was great.
http://habsloyalist.blogspot.com
They don't call it CKAC for nothing...Seecack....hearcack...talkcack. Must be my inner "angryphone" as Mike calls it coming out.
I love to hear that. Good on Laraque. Some of these people who criticize players for ridiculous things need to rephrase their words or shut up and get a grip on reality.
"Give Koivu a Lifetime Contract"
Oh sorry then, I just didn't hear anything about it today, so that's what I was just assuming Laraque not showing up didn't bother anyone.
BTW I am wrong to use the word Francophones.. I should state that there are some people in the media instead.. It's just, they happen to be in french media.. and the English media hasn't berated Koivu at all yet..
I nearly feel bad for Koivu, this guy can't even go on vacation with out being on the negative side in a paper.. jesus.
Mike Boone,in your Hickey Eyes 2010 Marathon posting and the Ian MacDonald BBQ chicken story...is this the same Ian who played football for McGill and dad was editor at Readers Digest?
No. Ian, who's retired, was a Montreal Star and Gazette sportswriter. Covered the Expos pretty much from the first pitch to the last. Great guy. Star of a million stories, few of which could be repeated on a family hockey blog.
That's OK George cuz golf is scared of you anyway.
