New/old goalie seen in Bell Centre corridors

posted by Dave Stubbs at 18h22 EST on Sep 10

You'll never believe who was sort of seen just outside the Canadiens dressing room this afternoon: a goalie who won a Hart and Vézina trophy for Montreal not so long ago...

Look at the name on the shaft of the sticks atop the pile as photographed by The Gazette's Allen McInnis. And, no, José Theodore is not making a comeback in Montreal. Canadiens head equipment manager Pierre Gervais finally was clearing out his cupboards at the Bell Centre, and these half-dozen Theo sticks were among the things being disposed of.

You'd also find a bunch of Sheldon Souray sticks on the cart, along with others of current Canadiens that, for one reason or another, weren't used.

... any chance of getting some of those sticks sent down here to New Brunswick? I could sure use a new one; my old Victoriaville straight blade is getting a bit splinter-y.

ha ha - i'd love to get a few of them too. this week i just got an old style aluminum stick with wood blade insert. i find these last for a long time - all the new composite sticks break too fast and i'm not mr money bags.

WOW!!!The Habs could have done a lot more with theese sticks. Surely the team could auction theese sticks for their various charities and in doing so raise more money then then otherwise receivedand profits would help those in need.Hopefuly someone will come to their senses and realize the value of the sticks and the charitable benefits.

Vancouver : Would You or Wouldn't You Sign the Soft Sedin Twins ? - No Trade Clause Imperative - (term 4 to 7 years / between 5 to 7 million each) ??????????

This is another team that has been going in the wrong direction and now appear to be on a one way street to nowhere. With a good young Edmonton team coming up,play-offs look remote.Maybe a total new start is in order,Toronto could take the Sedins off their hands to go along with their new/old GM Burke.

H F - I never thought of that but to tell you the truth the Sedin's were a disappointment in Burke's eyes and he was just being politically correct to save face.

And I was probably being politically incorrect with my sarcasm...in all honesty don't care were all three go, as long as it is not with Montreal. And by wishing them on Toronto, just perpetuating the "loser" syndrome there. My second son deserves better, as he is a Maple Laffs fan (his chosen connection to his birth place). Like this blogger ,he "gets it" also and is more critical of them then I ever could be.

H F - I hear you, my nephew moved to the laff nation for work a few years ago and he can't believe the laffs fans who he says are so die hard and so negative but the worst thing he noticed was that he had a hard time to have a decent talk on hockey with them cuz they only knew the laffs and knew little about the other Canadian teams and their knowledge of hockey in the states was Gretzky but then again who wants to talk hockey with a laff fan.

This is what I have to deal with all the time here in the Golden Horseshoe. You do get used to it, but you still can't help but pity these lemmings following their blue and white heroes over the cliff.

Now that's the best reason so far as to why NO ONE should go to that web site. It's all B.S. anyway. Blogging and posting in the spirit of fun is one thing, but pretending to be a pro journalist... why there ought to be a law... :) Gilbert 2008/09 is the season of the Habs

Pensionplanpuppets and group therapy site...love it but I guess goes to show some Leaf fans do actually get it.

H F - That blog has the occasional good article and it's a laff blog but not strictly and he is objective most of the time.

I would hope they would at least donate these to charity or school hockey programs rather than just throwing them in the trash. :( Would be cool to have one! :) Drive For 25 Is Alive!

Friday the 26th is the first preseason game at the Bell Centre! Working at the Bell Centre is simply the greatest part time job anyone can ask for! I hope to see a historic season this year! BTW any news on Sundin? (I know I know, everyone is sick of this topic) What is Bob's deadline for Sundin anyways and who could he be in the pursuit of if Sundin doesn't sign? BTW NHL 09 by EA for the XBOX 360 is simply an amazing game, on top of that the Habs Legends team is crazy!!! The players all look Authentic. Patrick Roy's equipment looks very cheap. They did a great job on his mask though! And Ken Dryden leaning on his stick. All I have to say is WOW Good job EA!

I will pay the cash to get those games on DVD! A lot of good banter here lately for a dead time for news in the NHL. A bunch of smart people on this site for sure. A few opinions to add... The trade issue for me is: worst trade means the one that made me want to explode, not which one led to more W's (feel free to let me have it for this opinion!). So, 1995 is it for me. I remember hearing or reading a report that named JL, ED, and PR as the only "unmovables". I will confess considering switching loyalties for a nanosecond or two after the core of the team was mailed out of town due to immesurable hubris, but my Grandfathers brainwashing held as firm as a drywall booger. The best arguement: G: Roy - Dryden admits to watching a lot of hockey F: Richard - Read that too many goalies admit his eyes intimidated them...stats speak for themselves D: Robinson - Harveys points with the presence and intimidation that makes an entire D stand taller. Best news all week : Gainey stating there is a deadline! Best part of HIO : Robert L and Nightmare seem to work different shifts! Makes visiting the site a "more than once a day event" Last thing...any precictions whether the power skating has worked for Latendresse?

Hey Guys, If I am not going to the Summit Hockey Game, is it still possible to go on the tour of the Bell Centre. Also, do you know where the get together is after the game yet. Thanks.

Ian Cobb's picture
ProHab--should be no problem to hook up with us at the Bell for the tour. But we are keeping the location, of our injuries a secret for the time being, we can only say upper body at this time.!!

For those who might be interested on November 04 is the release date for the DVD - NHL : Greatest Games in Montreal Canadiens History ASIN - B001FACHDM There are 10 games on the DVD although at this time no games have been listed. It can be preordered at Amazon.com. Reg. Price $59.98 USD Preorder Price $41.99 USD

I went on the Amazon.ca website, the only price I seen was $63 Cdn. Go Habs Go !!

Cable Guy's picture
go to amazon.com and order it, cheaper there. mine came to $49.97 with shipping.

Must be the one Gainey was talking about a couple weeks back.Thanks... apparently there was some poll and only 9 of the 10 games were found on film, so another must have been picked. He only mentioned two, the Red Army game and last years ,come from behind, against the Rangers.

Wow, would be nice to have a couple of those sticks!! Cant wait for the season to begin, and I can imagine how much equip they are getting for the new season/training camp.

To whomever posted the Habs film note, please send details of this to dstubbs@thegazette.canwest.com If it checks out, we'll post it. Thanks. Dave Stubbs

Vid's picture
I'm not going to the game but would like to go on the Bell Center tour, am I allowed to purchase a tour ticket?

Ian Cobb's picture
They told me we could have up to 100 at this tour.

Does anyone remember the site where you could custom make running shoes. The site had habs logos that you could put on. I remember people were talking about it last year.

Naila Jinnah's picture
RbK. You can also get them done at the NHL flagship store in NYC.

db's picture
If you search Craigs List you'll find someone selling the shoes The number 21273 makes me smile.

Anyone else have thoughts on whether the XBOX or PS3 is a better system for hockey games, particularly EA's hockey game? On the other thread, there seemed to be one vote for XBOX and one for PS3. Thanks for any thoughts on the matter (and sorry for being off-topic).

Justin A's picture
I got the Xbox 360 version today. Ever since the Xbox 360 came out I have been aiming more towards the NHL series on that console, I just find the control feels more complete. I own the two consoles and I find the PS3 doesn't do it for me and it's control's. It always feels like the controller is going to break. Overall it's an AWESOME game! The Be a Pro mode is a must try!

Shawn S's picture
I'm loving the xbox version.

I just got the XBOX and have been playing NHL 08 on it and I'm with Shawn, I'm loving it.

My freind has a freind (I know it sounds pretty skeptical) that knows someone who works for the habs and apparantley theres is a 3:00 scheduled announcement for the habs tomorrow, no idea what its about but its most likely something about the centennial year, maybe the outdoor game...Take it for what its worth...Just thought id share it.. "If I wanted to hear from an ***, I would fart..."

50 points! Ex nihilo nihil fit

Im already beating Eklund at his Own game lol... "If I wanted to hear from an ***, I would fart..."

Nice scoop, HH. Your credibility just went up! :)

Dave Stubbs's picture
Nothing we've heard at Inside/Out, and we'd know. The Canadiens are supposed to announce their centennial plans at a news conference on Sept. 24. We should have pretty full details of both the rookie and regular training camps by Friday at the latest and they'll be posted here. Needless to say, we'll be covering both thoroughly. Dave Stubbs

Dave, if you need any help, I know a good hockey reporter living on the rock that we could send to help out. She does a great job!

lol this sounds about as credible as db's call for extras, Habhopeful! ... of course, on both counts, time will tell. :) (time will tell yours a lot sooner. 3pm tomorrow, you say? I shall attend to the sportscasts.)

Habhopeful's picture
Haha Looks like were both sketchy cats...Well see indeed... "If I wanted to hear from an ***, I would fart..."

Your friend's friend wouldn't happen to be Eklund.

Habhopeful's picture
Haha tell you the truth even if it was i wouldnt have a way to know... "If I wanted to hear from an ***, I would fart..."

Think they'd find an old LaFleur one?? LOL!! Wouldn't that be awesome!!

the_larry's picture
There might be $5000 worth of sticks there! The Theo ones would make GREAT collecters items.

sholi2000.com's picture
Noooooooooooooooooooooo! As a collector, reading this pains me. Oh to live in Montreal. One quick call to the Man, and another goalie stick added tot he collection. Of course, I would have to place Theo's on the bottom rung, as Carey's stick is tops! sholi2000.com God Bless Our Infantry 2PPCLI

KamiDave's picture
So those all get 'disposed of'? That's too bad, I think it'd be great to have one of those, used or not.

Dave Stubbs's picture
Well, they're not going to be fireplace kindling exactly. They've been sold to someone who will in turn sell them himself. For the Habs' Gervais, it's more important that he gets this amount of space in the equipment rooms. The amount of stuff arriving daily for the rookie and regular training camps is staggering. Are you aware if the canadiens do sell equipment to fans like stick? I am a goalie and would love pro stuff LOL...

"Well, they're not going to be fireplace kindling exactly. They've been sold to someone who will in turn sell them himself. " How much are you selling them for Dave?

showey47's picture
I've seen a couple at the bell center boutique. They are game used sticks

g's picture
how did you get this Avatar in? I tried several files-SWF, Flash Movie, Animated GIF, Fla. none of these were accepted by HIO.

idle's picture
It's a 12 frame GIF. Make sure yours fits the file size limit and image size limit. Other then that I would not know. I have had mine for awhile and maybe I uploaded it before some rules changed?

g's picture
thanks,I'll give it a try

yathehabsrule's picture
classicauctions.net likely got them.....or they will appear there....They always get a lot of Habs memorabilia.

Dave, I don't know for sure, but a few of those curves look illegal. What do you think? I'd want a measurement check before I bought one. The only thing worse than being Marty McSorley would be being accused of being him in a pickup game!

Moey's picture
The only thing that beats old sticks(crap you don't know where they've been)is a "game worn" jersey. Eeewww, I hope they wash them first.

You want a set of "game-worn" #10 home and away Habs jerseys, Moey? I have a pair and I challenge anyone to determine whose sweat it is mine or Guy's! Were they "fresh," I would bet I sweat more than The Flower, but by now most of it has evaporated.

Moey's picture
Thanks for sharing that but I'll pass! The summer of Sundin has been really long, I'm getting cranky.

Me, McBozo and Tis Himself are all bored shitless as well. Please someone, somewhere drop a freakin' puck!

Moey's picture
When the thought of owning Shelly's stick doesn't cheer me up things are going downhill fast. THere was a poster on the Chris Chelios thread below under the handle "Justin_Chowder" check out his blog on Patrick Roy, well written and a bit creepy. Now I'm convinced that sweater MUST be retired, if Habs managment won't do it we need to hire a swat team to take possesion of the Bell Center and do it ourselves. Read his blog and let me know what you think.

Spooky stuff. I don't know about fans, but hockey players are certainly a superstitious bunch. I always dress from left to right. Left shin pad, left skate, etc. It would make sense to retire his jersey as close to March 17 as possible, but the announcement MUST be made before the season starts for maximum effect. The current squad may or may not be able to keep the bogey men at bay until then.

Moey's picture
Agreed, and I'm sure Bob & Guy have been the driving forces behind this. J.T. mentions in her report that BG says the Habs are like a family and rifts mend. I can't wait for the kickoff or should I say puck drop, I'm thrilled that TSN are showing a couple of pre-season games. In George, Bob and Guy we trust, they really do "get it".

Think it is more the curse of Ron Corey instead of a curse from St Patrick.
