Both Valentenko and Olivier Latendresse are wearing the same number (42). Do they have to switch jerseys every time they get on the ice?

Let the hockey season begin with the main training camp starting today. It will be a very exciting and entertaining season for our Canadiens. We must not forget our Hamilton Bulldogs as well. Guys like Komi, The K bros, Pleks, Price, Lapierre, O'Byrne, etc.. started in my hometown of Hamilton before moving to the club. If you are ever in the Greater Toronto area, please stop by in Hamilton and support our Baby Habs during the hockey season! "We will win the Cup only with Carey Price in the nets"

imagine presason games on tv thats awesome.one thing ive wonderd is why dont the habs have there own channel on tv like the leafs tv channel in ontario.all habs news, old games, interviews etc.id suscribe to it.

Steiner's picture
probably because RDS has all broadcasting rights of all Canadiens games. There's no channel for the Leafs (despite what we may think of CBC) that would play all their games, so they have Leafs TV so the fans can catch them all. If I'm not mistaken (which I may very well be). I'm pretty sure it has to do with RDS having primary broadcasting rights.

mrhabby's picture
ever heard of leafs TV.

will any pre games(aside from the 2 RDS are broadcasting) be shown anywhere on the dish? maybe their opponent will broadcast the games. Is NESN carrying the habs Bruins preseason games? Anyone know?

I think that the NHL channel (new last year?) is broadcasting Montreal and Buffalo on Tuesday Sept. 23rd.

Unrelated comment. I actually went to the movie shoot to be an extra on Thursday. Unfortunately, it was only on Tuesday and Wednesday that they were shooting the Habs' players on the ice skating and scoring goals with the crowd of extras doing lots of cheering. Thursday had one scene of Kovalev doing a faceoff against a Red Wing with the camera filming from underneath them. The players were on a platform standing on a plexiglass window. Just 3 takes. Kovy won 2 of 3 and raised his hand ups after each win to an enthusiastic cheer from the fans/extras. He was nice enough to sign a lot of stuff afterwards. Of course why Kovy would be taking a faceoff is beyond me... That was it though, there were no other habs players as they were shooting locker room scenes. They made the extras wait for 2 hours outside the rink before allowing them back in for filming a short scene in the stands with the actors. We see a blonde haired kid wearing a koivu jersey accompanied by presumably his mum & older bro. They walk down the aisle to find their seats. They meet somebody named Mr. Lapointe who shakes their hands. Not much dialogue although I was far away and couldn't hear clearly. For this scene they asked the audience to silently pretend to find their seats. This scene takes place before the beginning of a game (against Ottawa). The next scene they asked the crowd to cheer loudly and celebrate. So yeah for those who didn't go on Thursday you didn't miss anything. Although there were 3 suckers who left early who could've won a pair of habs tickets.

I'm excited to see not only the Habs this year, but Hamilton as well. Just looking at the lineup, not counting guys like Subban & Fortier who will be returned to the junior teams, Hamilton's going to have a very talented, high tempo young team. I'm also excited to see what kind of lineups Carbo throws together...man, I love that the hockey season is almost here.

Latendresse better watch his step! there's a pac man coming, and he's going to eat up Lats spot! I predict 1 player amongst, Pac, Valentenko, and Webber will land a spot on the big team, maybe not to open the season, but by Xmas time.

I agree that this will be very problematic. Is it true that Max Pax has grown to 6-3 220 or is this just urban legend (for us wishful thinking)?

We'll get our core guys under contract for Detroit type money. They'll take less to be part of a first class winning organization. No worries.

That is a really cute puppy.

***MARKET WATCH*** If Jason Pominville is commanding $26.5mil over 5 years, how much will higgy and plek get?

Was Pominville to be UFA or RFA ?

24 Cups's picture
Bn - RFA. We're going to have to dole out some coin if Plekanec has another solid year. We can't afford to lose this guy. The Original 24 Cups

JasonM's picture
Well he just had a 27 goal, 53 assist for 80 point season. If pleks has a strong season I don't see a reason why he can't get 4-5M, Higgens? Not more 3 IMO. What we need to watch is Komi, 6M a year anyone?

Stay at home defencemen favors staying home over going out on most nights.... its why they dont make that kind of money.

Mr Dobby's picture
Luckly, denfensive defensemen never get as much, so i think we can lock up Komisaurus for probably 4-4.5. I see no reason why he should try and get more then Markov. I would like the Habs to sign him for a really long contract like 7-8 years, he's worth the money and the future captain of the Habs. dobby.

G-Man's picture
I like Komi a lot. 6 mil is waaay too much, even if other GMs have s**t for brains. However, I might be the only one here that thinks the cap is on its way down. A US recession/depression will work wonders on it. I can't imagine how much Beliveau in his prime would be worth these days. Gilbert 2008/09 is the season of the Habs

twocents's picture
I believe the cap could contract some too. For the reason you point out and because of the performance of the Canadian dollar lately. That is why I am really happy Lang is only under contract for one year. Because of the way Gainey has played his cards we will not be devastated if that happens. We may lose one of the big six.(Koivu, Kovalev, Tanguay, Komisarek, Higgins or Plekanec) But, no more than one. I also think Komisarek is signable for less than six million. We have to remember that despite the awesome physical game he brings he is still a defensive defenseman. The only other Dman who has put up similar offensive numbers in the top 30 paid defenseman in the league is maybe Hannan at 4.5 million or Reghyr at slightly below the top thirty with 4 million. I think Komi deserves and will get more than them but he will be setting the standard for defensive shut down types and I think 5 million should do it... especially if the cap shrinks a bit or grows only slightly. If that happens there will be less spare cash flying around since so many teams have been committing long term lately.

IMHO, Le Gros Bill was extremely close to being Priceless then and he would still be Priceless now. He was not only a great player but was (and is) also a first class leader and gentleman. If I recall correctly, he even played for a game or two as a player/coach while Toe Blake was in hospital (was it a heart attack?) (the operative word here is recalling correctly). However our current roster is a very fine group of athletes IMO. Looking forward to the new season. Cheers Ali B.

A. Berke, you hit that nail square. I can hardly wait, too. Gilbert 2008/09 is the season of the Habs

Here is the try out camp by position for both teams. Hamilton and the Habs. Defence we have 16 Forwards we have 30 Center----15 Right wing-9 Left wing--6 I would say we are very light on Left wingers, so some of our centermen are going to be made into left wingers.

Finally, Tanguay given #13

First thing I looked for! :) Pacioretty 67 also brings a smile!

Moey's picture
Okay boys, I've posted this at least three times in the past two weeks, THEY GAVE TANGUAY 13 AT THE GOLF TOURNAMENT! There, I feel better now!

G-Man's picture
Ease up there, Moey. You don't want your throat to get hoarse, do you? :) Gilbert 2008/09 is the season of the Habs

Dave Stubbs's picture
Well, almost, Moey. I spoke with equipment manager Pierre Gervais two days before the Lang signing, and he said that the 13 and 81 were on hold for Tanguay. He'd have surrendered 13 had you-know-who come from Toronto. Since Tanguay couldn't get 18 -- something about it hanging from the Bell Centre rafters for S. Savard -- he would have settled for 81 as his second choice. Dave Stubbs

Actually Dave, Pierre Houde said it on CHOM a couple of weeks ago, that's where I heard it. I was a bit surprised because it was before the Lang signing. Pierre figured that they were making somewhat of a statement by doing it, thanks for clarifying it.

"Pitch tents"? Perhaps this post is relevant to the facebook group that Boone posted about??

Check out NHL.com's 2008-09 preview. They say some good things about the Habs. Makes everyone feel warm and happy. A couple serious omissions: Tomas Plekanec and Roman Hamrlik. http://www.nhl.com/nhl/app/?service=page&page=NHLPage&id=26921

It's awesome to see how many of those guys were drafted by the Habs... Although I'm still a little bitter about RDS only carrying 2 of 9 exhibition games... 1. www.flickeringpictures.com - not a hockey site, but still kinda neat 2. Josh Gorges on Montreal's attack: "They're comin', they're comin' and they keep comin'. Just line after line, wave after wave..."
