Injuries starting to pile up

Max Pacioretty battles with a stick-less Chad Anderson Thursday at the Verdun arena. Peter McCabe, The Gazette

The Gazette's Kevin Mio reports from training camp Thursday that several other names can be added to the list of names in the Canadiens team clinic.

There are now as many as 10 veterans suffering from a variety of injuries, mostly groin and hip problems.

But head coach Guy Carbonneau isn't concerned about the long list of injured players, mostly veterans. The coach said keeping the players off skates was a precaution and that if the team were in the playoffs, he expected all the injured players could play through their injuries.

According to the Habs' website, there are only two remaining televied exhibition games:

Sat Sep 27, 2008 Canadiens vs. Senators 7:00 PM TSN2
Tue Sep 30, 2008 Red Wings vs. Canadiens 7:30 PM RDS,TSN

Funny, they don't even mention the Minnesota one -- RDS has been advertising that game for a while now.

A must read for true Habs fans with intents of fending off Leafs blusters!

There is a popular myth, longstanding in fact, and more than likely perpetrated by decades of jealousy and frustration from other team's fans, that the Montreal Canadiens superiority from the early 1950's to the late 1970's was due to the simple notion that they had territorial rights to the province of Quebec's two or more of greatest hockey talents annually.

The myth has gained ground since the 1979 season, when end of the Canadiens last dynasty coincided with the passing of players signed or drafted in the 1960's.

Thanks for clarifying the territorial rights myth Robert. I never knew how it worked.

Bill....more like how it did not work!

My post did not delve into actual names between 1936 and 1943, but suffice to say that the Canadiens jumped on a bunch of un-C-formed Quebec born players in that era, sending the selected two to their first farm team, the Providence Reds.

Here's a career list of all time Reds. You'll see a bunch of nobody's in that 7 year span.

We will be mailing to you your 81 summit game tickets on Monday or Tuesday. We had a delay on one of the blocks of tickets that came from the Bell Center. They say we should have them by Monday the 29th for sure.

See you all there.

not about this but is fridays game VS the sens televised on RDS or something else ??

originalsix's picture

From an earlier post, the only game that RDS will be televising will be the Habs vs Minnesota game on Oct 4th.

Tonights and tomorrow's games will be on TSN & TSN2. You could probably find live streaming of the game online if you head to www.myp2p.eu

Habs - Sens on Saturday, also on TSN! (TSN 2)

From TSN.ca...
Saturday, Sept. 27 Montreal @ Ottawa (Pre-season, TSN2) 7:00pm/4:00pm
Tuesday, Sept. 30 Detroit @ Montreal (Pre-season) 7:30pm/4:30pm

That's more like it!

It says on the TSN website that they will be showing the Habs-Wings game on Tuesday 7:30 EST

Has anyone noticed lately it is easier to pull your groin than watch the Habs preseason ?

Tom S.'s picture

Better to have these injuries now than in May and June.

can someone please tell me which hab preseason games will be televised?
I know the game on Saurday is, but aside from that 1, which others?

Maffu's picture

The absolute last one will be televised again by RDS.
vs Minnesota.

Any input into the R. Mayer(goalie) signing?
What happened to Ryan White, is he still in the organization? I haven't seen his name mentioned anywhere.

I BLEED BLEU BLANC ET ROUGE!!!

Well, he had a breakaway in Detroit and missed the net so I guess he is still around.

Even if the injuries keep these guys out for a few regular season games, there's not much reason to panic... the Habs should have an easy time making the playoffs. They are a team with a fair amount of depth, and so long as the injuries are not long-term, the boys should be fine.

I wouldn't worry about first place again. Not only will it be hard to repeat that performance, but teams wear themselves out during the last month of the regular season trying to secure top spot. Save the energy for the playoffs. I'm happy to see them finish top 4 (would still like home ice advantage for at least the first round).

These are day-to-day type injuries... when someone breaks or tears something, then I'll start to worry.

HabsColor's picture

Maybe I have the weird view, but indeed I see it as good sign (precaution) that Habs will be healthier in the deep season and playoffs.
Plus, giving young guns more ice time...

i was afraid pacioretty was injured when i saw the picture of him and when i saw the writing saying "Max Pacioretty battles..."

phew

Kaptain K's picture

Its prolly like they woke up and their groins were sore from working out (as most body parts get sore from workout) and theyre overplaying the "injury" part of it just to keep em healthy for the season....either that or theres a new virus that affects all good players over 30 wearing a CH

Like gonorrhea? Unless it's some new crotch-specific super-flu.

This is getting nuts. I hope everyone on here is right when they say that it's all minor and it's just a precaution. Carbo said if it was the playoffs, they'd all be playing... what if it was just the regular season? Cause we've got 2 full lines on the fritz...basically...we're boned.

Puns intended, hopefully?

If he was concerned would he say so?
