Good to see Pat Hickey up and around and on Sports World 360. I think he's lost a few pounds like Gagnon and Boone.

Song ain't bad...I guess. "Except you...gimme somethin...I can feee-eeel!" Ok, sorry. Moving on, About tonight's game, Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't this a completely DIFFERENT team'o'kids we're putting up against the Sens tonight? And the Sens'll have the SAME full roster they had last night? (besides Alfie, who some say, myself included, that without him, there ARE no Sens) But bottom-line: It's the Sens full team, no? Oh my. Dear, dear, dear. May I be afforded a moment of sorcery? Please, ghosts of the Flannel, please, Humba Kawaga, Agawa Ga-bunga. Let ANOTHER bunch of Mtl diaper-wearers kick the Sens butts tonight. Please. I'm not greedy and it's only preseason. 4 - 0 will do. Mwa-ha! Peace Out. ______________________________________________________ Lord Bugs Potter, esq. Earl of Fluppitburg, Baron of Flopshlupshire and Knight of the Flannel Republic.

Actually looking forward to see what Val and Belle are bring to us along with White, plus an opportunity to see if Chips is still struggling or is he ready for the big show. This is our B+ team playing their A team so pressure is all on Ottawa.

MikeL's picture
B+ is being very generous.

Our B team would be the Bulldogs ,there are a few NHLer's playing tonight and didn't want a Komi,JG or SK74 etc fan to take offense.Instead I get a saint giving me grief.

Generation - Simple Plan Here's the new goal song, dunno if anyone posted it. Basically the chorus and the bit after is what they play. It's catchy on its own too. Kind of like the old one, the crowd can chime in with the oh-ohs :) ****** the notwithstanding clause - The general consensus of an ordinary Habs fan in Montreal

Habs fan in SF's picture
what a lame song. there's a reason why simple plan never broke into the US market ... although there's a ton of shite down here too. for their 100th year, they should go back to the classic song ... http://members.shaw.ca/kellycat/Track%20No36.mp3

Hope they are only doing the chorus, otherwise it would suck.

MikeL's picture
I don't like it. I bet 16 year old girls do though. Bring back the old song and make everyone happy.

Yeah it likely is, eventually. http://www.myp2p.eu/index.php?part=sports

Is rds showing the game tonight?

TSN2

Cable Guy's picture
I have Bell Expressvu, do I get tsn2???

MikeL's picture
I would assume you do, as long as you get TSN. I get it on Starchoice, and Bell owns part of CTV (TSN), so I would venture to guess they would have it if Starchoice does.

Don't know...Bell Tv it is on channel 403.Is Expressview digital ? Check them out on the net.

Les-Habitants's picture
Forwards lines for tonight (from the canadien's website) Pacioretty - Lang - Beauregard Gui! - Lehoux - S. Kostitsyn O. Latendresse - Chipchura - Dandenault Russell - White - Glumac

Les-Habitants's picture
I have Gui - Lang - Sergei lined us as my 3rd line, so I'd like to see those three guys together tonight, then have Lehoux (who had a 73 pt season in the AHL) with D'Agostini and Max Pac. Of our defensive corp, I wonder who will be QBing the PP...Gorges, maybe Komi?

Bugs's picture
Not that I'm against the winds of change but I gotta admit, "Hello, hello! I got a case of verti-goooo" kinda grew on me. It was different and there was no denying it was full joy. "You... gimme something... I can feeeeel! I can feee-eeeel!" C'mon. Haven't heard the Simple Plan thing yet but in the natural order of things, musically-speaking: going up against U2 is a tall order. Their song better be dang good. As fer Ottawer, Don't make me laugh. They're finished. (Pow! How do you like that?) Season hasn't started yet and they're already finished. In fact...they're all finished. All of'em. All of them bastiches. There's nobody but us. Les Canadiens sont là. So let's do this thing and have it done already. Time to chisel in 25. Peace Out. ______________________________________________________ Lord Bugs Potter, esq. Earl of Fluppitburg, Baron of Flopshlupshire and Knight of the Flannel Republic.

Anyone curious that we haven't seen much of price in the preseason?

showey47's picture
I'm glad Price isn't playing tonight. I bet he plays tomorrow against florida and probably 2 or 3 more starts before the season starts

Maffu's picture
Yaa I agree with you showey. He'll get at least 2 more starts. Hopefully Saku gets in there for at least a game, good chance he will. - Matthew

No. It's a long season. __________________________________

moser17's picture
Exactly. They're carrying four goalies in the big club right now. Price isn't even competing for the number one spot. Halak is almost certainly the clear #2. Seems like Carbo is playing all our goalies, giving them playing time and showing them off, because they're all good calibre. Price and almost certainly Halak on Oct 10. Although: anyone think Denis challenges Halak?

likehoy's picture
no.

moser17's picture
me neither, but do you think Denis is a #1? I'm on the fence, leaning towards 'yes'.

Number31's picture
Denis needs to rebuild himself. I think Hamilton will help him a lot. He's a number 1 that needs to rework himself, but he's not our number 1. ****** the notwithstanding clause - The general consensus of an ordinary Habs fan in Montreal

Gary320's picture
The goal song is called "Generation" by Simple Plan.. Really catchy. But its not written for the Habs....

likehoy's picture
ugh simple plan...i wish they would have visited another montreal band's music, namely sam roberts band or even "stars - take me to the riot" would have been fitting.

RGM's picture
I would have preferred something off the new Metallica album. But then, they do come out to For Whom The Bell Tolls, so I guess they do have a quota. Still, though, Simple Plan? Was nobody else available to collect some royalties? ----- Go Habs Go!

moser17's picture
I thought they came out to a U2 song.

expect a full sens roster tonight. Tsn.ca just posted the sens sent down 5 more to the minors leaving them with 25 players on their roster.

now thats a rookie line up.sometimes i wonder if these so called injurys to elder players are a roost . the vets dont have anything to prove and prob only need a game or 2 get there timing going ,so i bet theyre not injured at all and not playing to avoid injurys and give the younger gunns a chance to prove them selves.the hype of this season is so awesome, habs fans are chomping at the bit waiting to drop the puck on the reg season. YA BABBBBY LETS GETTER GOIN!! GO HABZ GOOOOOOO!!

Oh yeah before I forget, I have some pics from last years game on March the 16th against the Flyers where Carey Price earned his first shutout. I was working in the nose bleeds that night so they aren't as good as they could be, they aren't bad, also gives you a little comparison to the new scoreboard....Enjoy :) http://www.new.facebook.com/album.php?aid=91826&l=0302d&id=685065453

Justin A's picture
Hi everyone, last night before working at the game I was able to take a few pictures, they aren't much but I had to get a couple of that brand new big *** scoreboard along with one of the new centre ice logo. Unfortunately I couldn't get any game shots since I was working in the lodges. It was very busy, people couldn't stop eating, I mean common who in god's name can afford to pay $50 for a large frie? Anyways, I hope you enjoy them, like I said it isn't much. http://www.new.facebook.com/album.php?aid=160952&l=c166e&id=685065453

I remember the good times i had working concessions for the lodges. Too bad they don't have Felix and Norton anymore (and I can't believe I now pay to go in that building.) The number 21273 makes me smile.

I don't think it's on RDS tonight, the formula 1 race is on rds at 8:30, the game is playing on TSN2 if you have it.

Is that line up a salute to the Reggie Houle era? Hate to pay top dollar to watch that group.

I'm gonna be at the game tonight!! I want to see KOVALEV! :(

showey47's picture
I would like to see a little more toughness in tonights lineup on our forward lines. The sens are gonna be looking to send a serious message at home tonight. Both on the scoreboard and physically.

Share your concerns about tonight's game going with so many kids but there are other considerations to remember; 1-we are playing 3 games in 3 nights (Panthers on Sunday) 2-nagging injuries to regulars 3-Carbo stated at start of camp, wanted to play regulars last 2 exhibition games (Detroit and Boston) 4-tonight and tomorrow night will be last two opportunities for the kids 5-training camp for Bulldog's start Tuesday Note:for our Newfoundland contingent,Bulldog training camp in St. John's along with a tournament with the Toronto and Vancouver AHL teams.Check out Bulldog's site for dates and details.

Habs Should Package Kids For Impact Player http://wwwrealitycheckeyesontheprize.blogspot.com/2008/09/habs-should-pa... The Canadiens 2008-09 training camp is at it's midway point, and other than a dismal first game showing against Boston, the team's performance has been excellent. Without once yet having iced a squad remotely reminiscent of last season's lineup, the Habs have fared well enough that one could envision them starting the season with either of the rookie laden groups they have dressed in the past three games. I mean really, what are they to do with all of these kids coming through the woodwork? It's a beauty of a problem to have if you happen to be Bob Gainey.

Grabbed The Cup's picture
Good morning Robert, this is a first for me... I disagree with you! While the time to make such a deal will eventually arrive, perhaps as soon as next seaon, this is not the year to make the move. As G-Man pointed out were disgustingly deep right now and waiting another year or two will only increase the value of the kids we can package. That being said, it's a terific time to be a Habs fan, we have a great team that is going to improve for many years to come. . . You leave me little notes on my pillow. Told you 158 times I can't stand little notes on my pillow. "We're all out of cornflakes. F.U." Took me three hours to figure out F.U. was Felix Unger!

It is nice to be wealthy again ,isn't it!! Have also had thoughts on dynasties .Don't believe we will see old time dynasties again but instead have entered a new era.The new dynasties are the New Jersey Devils (ending?) and the Detroit Red Wings. Solid organizations who draft, develop, trade and recruit wisely .That build teams that compete yearly and win Cups every few years. This is the dynamics of the present day NHL with free agency ,drafts and now salary caps.I also believe that there is a new dynasty joining this elite group and am happy to be a fan of that team.Bob Gainey has built a strong organization and I have not seen trading like the Locke and Grabs ones since Pollack days,in the past we would have just let them go for nothing or close to.I have been a Habs fan for 40 years and have seen the great and sometimes just plain bad teams iced. But it is not just the team on the ice that makes Greatness but the one off the ice building it.

G-Man's picture
Sorry, Robert L, but there is no need for a so called "impact player" at this time. Pleks, the K bros., Kovy, Lang and Koivu, along with Markov are "impact" enough. Remember, too, at the end of this season the Habs have quite a few UFAs to sign up. With the cap probably dropping (if not by a lot) it will be harder than ever to keep all the great players we have. Therefore, that's where the youngsters come in. They can step up and be ready to take over at a price that'll be easier to manage. What's the point of lining up the prospects if all the Habs will do is flush them for another overpaid player who may or may not produce? Remain patient, the Habs are approaching the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. It just takes time to get there. Gilbert 2008/09 is the season of the Habs

Good on ya people! Herb, G-man....I expected more backlash on this, honestly. I wrote this piece from the POV of an impatient fan. I personally would never combine so many assets in order to acquire just one player. Too many imponderables could go wrong....like Gaborik playing half a season and skipping to the KHL. Patience. Thanks to those who got it!

HAB-PROFESSOR's picture
Stubbs - good article. I wonder what Carb means about "near future" for PAX.... if the kid is that good then what are we waiting for, he should make the team. Now if Dandy dresses instead of PAX then there is a political problem. Same with Stewart, and we've got a HENRY that went toe to toe with Neil, so why did we pick up Larouque? Same deal with Subban, then why Breeze again...because of the connection with 93? sure, he can do that role in a suit. anyway, its better to have these types of problems!

Moey's picture
You would replace Laraque with Henry (after one fight)and Breezer's experience and veteran presence with Subban? I'm glad you're not the GM.

Last night was a great confidence game. Tonight with many players who it seems wont be on the team this year it will be interesting GO HABS!!!! Canadas Team, Gods Team You name it The Habs are it

Blitzen's picture
I like this move. If they lose a close game, tie or win it'll be a confidence builder. The potential downside would be a huge loss but that impact would be mostly on the kids and they'll have time to get over it. I don't think it would translate into the season. Losing a couple of key pieces because Neil decides to be himself would be a major loss. All the pressure will be on the Sens tonight. On the Habs side, Chipchura and Dandy need to come up big to have a shot at the starting lineup. Puts Lang in a leadership role to see what he has to offer there. _____________________________________________________ No, I won't help you find the Holy Grail!

Ian Cobb's picture
PK Suban- I have had the pleasure of watching this 19 year old young man play here for the Belleville Bulls. At 16 he was a walk on and made the team with his speed and acurate point shot. He is a quality that you are going to enjoy for years to come. But I,m afraid that our lineup is a little to strong right now, so we will see him back in Belleville. If he does not make the Habs, he has to go back to junior for this year. To young to play in Hamilton.

Number31's picture
Subban has been my favourite of the prospects for a while. Watched the Memorial Cup because of him. Kid's got a great smile! I liked what I saw at last night's game. He was solid in the first two periods, kind of got wonky after that fight though (except I gotta say he owned that fight) but I also saw he acknowledge his mistakes during the 3rd. With this experience, he can only get better :) Next year I would think he'll be with the Dogs. Last year at the end of the cup run, he said he was planning on staying another year at least with the Bulls. Oh the anticipation when he finally becomes a lock on the Habs permanently! ****** the notwithstanding clause - The general consensus of an ordinary Habs fan in Montreal

Robert, Just got the first of 4 Habs books pit out this year as you've discussed on your blog called The Montreal Canadiens 100 years of Glory by D'arcy Jenish. Over 300+ pages with nice pictures. Good reading material for me during the winter season on those cold winter nights. Also, is there any way you can upload all the remaining jersey photos that the Habs will be wearing this season? "We will win the Cup only with Carey Price in the nets"

Hoegarden's picture
Got the same book the other day and when I went back to Costco the pile was already down to just a few. Some great quotes in there. Happy reading.

Robert L's picture
Sorry Mikey, I've never brought up the Jenish book at my site. The photos of the jersey's are all over my site, spread out in different areas of late. The Habs offical site and Habs World also has links to them.

usversusthem's picture
Well, if we win this one, it'll be something alright. That said, we won last game with fewer regulars than the Sens, so who knows.

This line up will have it's hands full tonight as Sens seek revenge and i'd rather this than the regulars as we will know who can be called up during the season if needed and also gives us a look at our future , what's Komo going to do without Marky , good move Carbo.

Hoegarden's picture
I fully agree. I'll be looking for Valentenko to also make a statement tonight. Belle could also be on patrol duty. Will get to ScotiaBank Place early just to get a feel for the game at Marsh's bar/restaurant.

RetroMikey's picture
I agree as well. This is a confidence builder for the young guys to show they belong to the Habs' organization and can play at this elite level with hard work and preserverance. Wearing the Habs jersey must be the biggest thrill for them in a lifetime and, for the majority going back to Hamilton, these young players will work hard all season knowing they are part of the Habs' organization and hoping they will be called up later on in the season. Don Lever will be an excellent mentor. "We will win the Cup only with Carey Price in the nets"

Ian Cobb's picture
I think your right Bryan, we will just see what this line up can do against a wounded Senater Club. I wish Laroque was healthy for this one, anything can happen to-night.

Moey's picture
I think Carbo is making the right moves tonight, Komi, Begin and Boullion have enough grit and muscle between them to handle a disgruntled Sens team. Even if Laraque was healthy I wouldn't risk an injury to him now, it's just not worth it, we'll really need him when the regular season starts.

Ian Cobb's picture
Moey-- you are probably right, I just don't like the thought of Neil beating the snot out of one of our kids, but just maybe we will be in for a surprise.

he tried last (as a bunch of Sens did) but the team, half of which were rookies, fought back spectacularly :) the Sens just looked that much more weaker trying to pick fights with juniors :)

Moey's picture
I don't see any point to fighting in preseason games but I guess for some players it's making a statement, if we can't win we'll just beat the tar out of someone. It's just plain stupid.

Robert L's picture
Ditto my friend, before I even read what you had to say. The Sens were humiliated last night, and they will be looking to win more than just a hockey game tonight. Hopefully once Carbonneau wakes up this morning, he really WAKES UP! After 4 games, I don't see the sense in dressing Lehoux and OLats42. Better to have Stewart in there. This could be a game that sets the tone for the season series between the Sens and Habs.

G-Man's picture
Games that mean something do not start for 2 weeks yet. This is the time to dress the young guys and give them a chance. The Sens won't be dressing too many of their "A" list players either. Gilbert 2008/09 is the season of the Habs
