What they said

Kyle Chipchura:

About the goal:

"I felt better tonight. ... The biggest thing is just getting the timing on, getting the puck without feeling the pressure.  I think  keeping it simple, getting the lucky bounce early, helped me settle into the game."

About playing when the Habs are one or two players down:

"That’s my job. If I’m going to make a living in the NHL, that’s where I have to do it.  Feels nice to get into it. ... I think that’s the tough part of the game, when you’ve had some time off: feeling the pressure, your timing, your positioning, playing the angles. "

About the team's performance as a whole:

"Lots of kids on the team: I thought we played well with them. Th guys were starting to step up.  (The Senators) got a couple more lucky bounces than we did. We played them hard, I thought.  We didn’t maybe have the experience they have. We battled hard.  ...  When you play against established players like that, you just have to try keep it close, play them competitively."

Carbo on Chipchura:

"He’s here to fight for a spot. Look at last year, at this point, he was the one who beat out Maxim (Lapierre)."

Goaltender Cédrick Desjardins (Nine shots, nine saves in the third period):

"Hopefully I’ve attracted some attention. They gave me a mission to finish.  I feel like a pitcher who comes into a game in the ninth inning, and I tried to do the same thing in both games.  ... I'm learning, so hopefully I get a chance to start a game.  I’m just waiting for that.

"There are good goaltenders in front of me. They’re well stocked in Montreal. But that won’t stop me from making a place for myself."

Carbo on Desjardins:

"Rollie (Melanson) has worked a lot with him. He’s a guy who likes to compete, who never had it easy. ... If Roland says it’s worth giving him a try, than that’s what we did. We know it’s Cary and probably Halak who will start the season."

Sorry to be late on this. (Dogs lose in overtime to the Marlies after surmounting a 2-0 deficit.) Go the the Hamilton Bulldog website - http://www.hamiltonbulldogs.com/index.php - and click on the "Talk820" button in the upper right. It'll take a couple of clicks to get there but you'll find it. Alternatively, you can likely source out the 820 website and get on directly from there.

Can't wait to see the Priceberg sink the Panthers tonight. Wouldn't mind a good'ooooole-fashioned shutout to prep myself to leap on this Kid's bandwagon, either. Hey, what can I say? I'm weak. I like the kids, what can I say? Ta heck with takin' it easy and it's just the preseason or it's just one game or it's just evaluation bla-bla. No, no, no. EVERYTHING counts. I AM evaluatin'. What? Let's play like bums cuz it doesn't count? No, no, no. They're playing their hearts out, the kids, make no mistake. Thrill me. That's all I ask. It ain't much. I ain't greedy. Just thrill me. I ask the same from the Priceberg. It's the Pantsers, Kid. C'mon. Thrill me. Peace Out. ______________________________________________________ Lord Bugs Potter, esq. It's funny. I just read this I/O post and then immediately found this one on a different site. I figured it's worth posting just because it's so coincidental. http://edition.cnn.com/2008/US/weather/09/28/kyle.storm/index.html

Up in section 309 it was nice to see so many fans sporting Habs colours, I'd say close to half the crowd. The B-team we had on the ice surely noticed this. As one would expect, the baby-Habs were disorganized at times to say the least. One shift that impressed me was when we have 4 rookies on the ice with Josh the only regular, against the 11/15/19 line and they held their ground very well. I counted only two harmless shots on goal. -Chips is a must keep; In his role, he is above the AHL but not quite NHL. His talent is obvious; he's a very smart with and without the puck. -Desjardins. Rolly is doing a very good job with him. He has the reflexes, quick glove, just needs serious icetime at the AHL level. His winning the best GAA in the ECHL last year was no fluke. -Disappointed in Valentenko. Not sure what it is, nervous I guess and out of position a lot. -MaxPac. You know he's the real deal. AHL for now but once he has the Habs system down pat, look out. At the end of the game, Sens fans were happy with the win but nobody was bragging about it.

Although we lost, we have lots of talented young guys. Not sure about Lats, the older yet. Still not blowing me away. He hits hard though.

Ian Cobb's picture
Thanks Mickey,I will give it a go.

Mickey's picture
No problem, not sure if they are the best instructions, let me know if it doesn't work.

Could not upload the pic. that I wanted, but what the hell I'll just stay pat for now. Thanks anyway. an hour and a half later, try it another day. Lets get back to the club!!!!

Ian ,do know this much.Is your picture in a folder? If so you may be trying to upload the folder which won't go.Take the picture out of the folder(to desktop) and then try.

Hoegarden's picture
Ian, do it the hard way. Instead of choosing Edit, choose Delete the pic and make sure you log out of HIO and close your Internet. Reload Internet, Log back in to HIO, go to your profile and double check that your pic is gone. Choose your new one, submit, log out. Log back in and it will be there. Hope this helps.

I think I got rid of the old one but let's see if the new one is here?? NOPE! I will try again.

Hoegarden's picture
You're halfway there Ian. Another task if you will, is to delete the "Temporary Internet Files" in your Internet settings. In your Internet window, click on Tools, Internet Options, Delete, Delete Internet Files. Windows keeps/saves links to sites frequently viewed for "faster viewing". Technically you should not need to do all this but as I said, sometimes doing it the hard way is the only way. Clearing those Temp files and cookies is a good thing to do once in a while.

Chip is going to start in Hamilton, where he will get the ice time he needs to become the player we think he can become. As mentioned by others, there is simply no room for any newbies on this team unless the injury bug strikes several players. For the first time in years, the team has depth and the farm is well stocked. Gilbert 2008/09 is the season of the Habs

Even Hamilton will have a problem getting all these players into their line up.Bo must feel like an oil sheik.

As to the Habs new goal song mentioned below, I've added the You Tube clip at my site, along with the video of Simple Plan's "Generation" from where it comes. I've my meaningless vote for a Habs tune, to appease Les Francais who might want something of their own in there....cue next political complaint, a day after opening night!

GHG33's picture
I for one really liked the U2 Vertigo song after each goal... Now I do like Simply Plan and I like most of their songs but this one just doesn't do it for me. Drive For 25 Is Alive!

I like the song. The hey ho let's go chorus is great! Let's hope we hear it ad nauseum this year! I'm really curious as to what they will use for the opening montage. It should be spectacular this year. Have my tix for opening night. Looking forward to it!

Yes, Nightman49, yes! Brooks bashing his team is JUST the kinda stuff I love to read. Great link, mate. You see? When you apply yourself? ...top10 Kovy goals...C'mon! I knew you could do better. And yet, a lot of "experts" see NY as a Contender. It didn't make sense to me last year and it doesn't make sense to me THIS year. I will enjoy reading NY blogs that try to explain their putridness. Goodbye NY. Nice knowin' yehs...suckers. Thanks, Nightdude49. Peace Out. ______________________________________________________ Lord Bugs Potter, esq. Larry Brooks really likes the Wade Redden signing.

Your Reggie Dunlop obit yesterday was a hoot.Started to read and then had to keep reading things twice ,too much subtly there.Thought of the original Invasion from Outer Space radio show.

Why is game night so confusing on this site lately. Why is Boone's game blog on the main thread and not on his own. Some of the threads on game night can be posts to avoid the hassle of maneuvering all around the site to read posts. God i'm bitchy in the morning when the weather is inclement and i have to go out, lol.

Mike Boone's picture
My thinking is I won't start live-game blogging until the regular season begins. Up till then, I'll post one game blog on the main site and keep updating it, as I did last night. Then I'll re-top it with dressing room audio after the game. That way all the comments will stay together. It's training camp for us, too.

Robert L's picture
Bryan, I feel the same way. The multi posts lead to busted threads of conversations. I feel all the newer posts after a main thread should be added without comments enabled, at least until the chat dries up.

Robert - I see what you mean and that seems to be worth looking into. I'm also thinking about the people that are new to the site or have visited the site before and may say that it used to be a good site but ? I'm sure you have visited sites that you liked but on recent visits they weren't as appealing so you passed them up , as i do anyway.

Training camp ,a time for experimentations perhaps.

Habs Memorable Games DVD Contents Announced http://wwwrealitycheckeyesontheprize.blogspot.com/2008/09/habs-memorable... When it comes to classic Canadiens games, everyone has their preferences as to what vintage of contests suits their desires. For me, I want the games I least recall, or have never seen, which means going back to when I was ten years old or younger. Maybe if you are my age, and you vividly recall the last four or five Stanley Cup conquers, you want to go back in time and see the Rocket and Le Gros Bill in their prime. All opinions considered, the Canadiens DVD of Memorable Games will both please and disappoint depending on your age.

Hoegarden's picture
Sadly, nothing on the "forgotten dynasty" of the late 60s.

Where can I buy this?

Robert L's picture
It'll be every DVD's are sold after November 4.

Man, the fact that April 19, 2004 didn't make it saddens me enormously. That game was absolutely fantastic to watch.

Yeah ,a couple of my favorites didn't make it either. Will have to chalk off to being past the median age of the voters.

1925-26 All That Could Stop Georges Vezina http://wwwrealitycheckeyesontheprize.blogspot.com/2008/09/1925-26-all-th... A crossroads season in the history of the Montreal Canadiens: Georges Vezina drops to the ice during a game, and passes away months later from tuberculosis. The Montreal Maroons win their first Stanley Cup. The Canadiens struggle to solve their goaltending woes. Newsy Lalonde suggests George Hainsworth. The Cleghorn brothers are sold. The NHL expands by two clubs to an 8 team league. A Texas promoter inadvertantly nicknames the team "Habs".

Hoegarden's picture
Very informative once again. Newsy the "scout"... that's a new one for me.

As always Robert... love it,amazed at how much information you have collected!

Ace - What they do with Dandy will answer that question and i for one can't see Dandy seeing much action on this team. Chips could help himself by playing with more of an edge and tougher cuz that's what this team lacks , not an agitator but someone who you don't want to line up against, make it difficult.

Lemur's picture
Chips is in the same boat as the rest of our youngsters this year. Right now there isn't any room for the kids, unless someone gets hurt or isn't playing well. They might keep him up with the team, but he'd be a healthy scratch for most of the games. But down the road (2-3 years) we are looking pretty great (as an organization). The depth is sensational at every position. Don't know if you've had the chance to scout out some of the other canadian teams and their development program (pretty sad). We are going to have one hell of a farm team, and maybe...just maybe...we might be able to pull off the trifecta (NHL/AHL Championships) I don't have a third but trifecta sounded pretty good at the time.

We are working on your trifecta...AHL champs in 2007,ECHL champs in 2008 and NHL champs in

Lemur - I wouldn't call Edmonton prospects sad by any means and their camp has been observed by many NHL teams for future moves.

I don't care if you call winning the cup a trifecta all on it's own, as long as we win it
