Big Georges: "I'll be ready for the season"

Big Georges Laracque doesn't know much, but he knows that when the bell rings to open the Canadiens's regular season, he'll be there.

Here's his money quote from today, as he ambled out of the Bell Centre shortly before noon.

"The trainer knows more than me. I’ll know tomorrow (when I see the doctor).

"I don’t know what kind of specialist he is. I don’t know why I’m seeing him. I just know he’s a doctor.

"Of course, at the beginning of the season, I’ll be there. Beyond that, I don’t know."

That is good, good stuff.

Good news

and oh, by the way.... Not trying to start another exciting habs rumor but I watched the sportsnet season preview last night, and it seems that they're comfident that BG is going to land Gaborik....Could be cool...but I'm guessing that would cost BG atleast Higgins+ or maybe Halak+ alot?

or maybe the both of those two for Gaborik...

Not sure if everyone is happy to hear about the possibility of BG trying to get Gaborik....but honestly if he's able to stay healthy in montreal I think he can be a 50 goal scorer with Kovy and Pleks.

I understand he gets injured often, but at the same time he hates the wild playing style, and he doesn't like Jacques Lemaire (from what RSN said) he's not exactly trying his hardest to get back on the ice.

Anyways I have confidence in what BG does, and if he thinks getting Gaborik will make us better I'm all for it (doesn't hurt that I love Gaborik :D)

R - Nice post and interesting but when did they say this would happen cuz right now i don't think it is possible as the Wild have offered him 8.7 million and he's declined. Our cap cushion is 1.8 million now so you can work it out.

I have mixed feelings about this kind of rumour. Of course it is tempting to go for someone of Gaborik's caliber. He's probably good for 40G 40A 80Pts, and he finished the season with a team high +17. No question he would help us.

But is the Sportsnet gang talking about a trade deadline deal? Everyone knows that talent like that costs a bundle at the deadline. For sure, BG would be considering some of the following:
1.) How much do you pay for a rental player, since Gaborik is a UFA on July 1? The currency will be prospects, not roster players.
2.) Does he fit with the long term plans and is he likely to want to stay?
3.) What happens to the team chemistry when he arrives, and who does he displace from the lineup?
4.) His current cap hit is $6.33M but his salary is $7.5M and he will no doubt be looking for a raise. So what does that do to your negotiations with UFAs currently on the team that you want to re-sign/extend? In other words, what are the long term salary cap implications and what does it do to the core of the team?
5.) If you are trading for him only as a rental, how much are you willing to trade away for him? Higgins? I doubt it. Not for a rental, when Higgins can fit into the long terms plans of the team. It would more likely be a package of Bulldogs that will have trouble cracking our lineup. Two or three of the following: Weber, Valentenko, D'Agostini, Ben Maxwell, Fischer. I don't think BG would deal Max Pac or McDonagh for a rental. The others have upside and will likely play in the NHL, so Minnisota might be interested, but not too much value to pay for a rental.

They were talking Nov / December time...so more than just a rental... so that would make it like a 4 mil hit instead of 6? Wave dandy, and maybe throw in boullion if you're not gonna trade roster players... but then we have 10 forwards that are all top 9 quality, and atleast 8 that are top 6 quality... so maybe one of our top 9 forwards would have to get traded...

Well... one thing about that guy is he said he's stiff in Wild country. Something about too much defense, not letting him fly free. Wait, I heard this elsewhere too.... Tanguay?

The Bulin Wall has been placed on waivers.
