With one more practice before the team heads to Buffalo for the first of three road games to begin the season, it's almost certain that Christopher Higgins, Georges Laraque and Francis Bouillon will miss the opener Friday night.
None of the players participated in yesterday's practice in Verdun although Laraque did work out on his own earlier in the morning and Higgins spent some time in the gym before going to see the doctor.
The lines for the opener are shaping up this way:
• Andrei Kostitsyn-Plekanec-Kovalev
• Latendresse-Koivu-Tanguay
• Sergei Kostitsyn-Lang-Kostopoulos
• Bégin-Lapierre-Dandenault
Markov and Komisarek will be the No. 1 defence pair; Hamrlik teams with O'Byrne and Gorges will be with Brisebois
Here's audio of Andrei Markov discussing moving to the right point on the power play, and associate coach Doug Jarvis talking about the power play.
thats our lineup?...we are dead.
It will be funny to see how Kostopolous holds up on a line with those two. I think Sergei might be a step or two ahead of both of those guys.
it's funny 'cause we're missing 3 players for tomorrow yet that lineup is as good as any that Guy put on the ice last year.
It's kind of funny that you guys are all bashing Tom the Bomb... You were all singing a much different tune when he was our leading scorer in the playoffs =/
Agreed. Hey, just look at his AHL stats: not too shabby.
Besides, I like the grit on that line. Tom the Bomb can crash and bang with the best of them, and he can stand in front of the net and get those goals from close in.
It's a fine selection, and while obviously not as ideal as having Higgins in the lineup, it'll do.
Anyone says this lineup looks weak, doesn't know what they're talking about. You can't go from having 3 scoring lines, lose one player, and be weak. Look at Toronto, that's a weak forward crop.
Man, gotta love Hab fans...the season hasn't even started yet, and there is panic in the air...must be the financial market.
C'mon guys, give me a break! Kostopoulos is a hard working, smart, equally defensive minded player who never gives up and tries as hard as he's capable of to win, even if it means bowling through walls... Paired with Sergei and Lang? That sounds mighty interesting to me!
In fact it all doesn't sounds so bad. Besides, it's only the first game of the season.

lol
So can we all shut up and watch for a bit, yes i think kostopolous is a bad choice, but i think we can trust Guy over all, because honestly this site is becoming unpleasant to read when all i'm seeing is this junk.
Seriously wait a game or two and see what happens.
i'll add as a footnote that it's possible to criticize without calling people stupid or implying that these lines is the worst decision over made.
Agreed!!!!
Congratulations to all of you who have Markov in hockey pools that award more points for goals than assists, you just got a big bonus.
Max being sent down when clearly there was a top 3 line spot for him makes no sense now.
This lineup looks weak.
looks weak? cause kostopoulos is on the 3rd line?? we still have our top two lines intact + lang and sergei
we'd have to put someone on the IR to keep max...and none of the injuries are long term.
streit would normally be in that third line spot where kostopoulos is.
This same line-up, minus Tanguay of course, lead the Habs to a 1st place finish, in the conference last season. Who's complaining about what now? Keep in mind, folks, that there are still 82 games left on the schedule and there will be many line-up changes along the way. There is also the probability of injuries that will, or may, occur allowing for a quick phone call to Hamilton to call a Max....or D'Agostini. Hopefully, they're ready if, and when, they're are called upon.
....oh, and Robert Lang wasn't there either..
This instance to play guys like Dandenault will be the doom of this team.
I'm slightly exaggerating, but for the life of me I don't understand why a guy like Dandenault is playing over a guy like Chipchura or even Max Pac...both who are clearly superior to him.
Chipper is centreman and Dandy is a winger/D, they are not interchangeable parts. MaxP is a young player who will benefit from big minutes as a pro, he is coming out of NCAA 32 games a season, he will learn how to be a pro and then he will be up with the Big Club soon.
Sergei and Latendresse should be switched... Would make a lot more sense.

Too many passer's, not enough shooter's. Then again you've bashed Latendresse all summer, so using your hatred for Latendresse and not your brain hinders your judgement.
Tanguay and Koivu aren't goal scorers?
No hatred bro, just common sense... Latendresse is not a top 6 forward... Maybe TSN should poll the GM's about that.

Yep, let's poll the other GMs by putting Lats on waivers...and see how fast all the GM's swoop in to snap him up. He wouldn't be on waivers for 15 minutes, and then you'd bitch and moan when he came back in several years and killed the Habs, just like Leclair used to do.
He's 20 yrs old, starting his 3rd year, scored 16 goals last year while he was supposed to be suffering from the 'sophomore jinx' and had his ice time reduced...he improved over his 1st year!
I understand that every team needs a whipping boy, but why it's Lats puzzles me...no, wait, I GOT IT! It's because his name is Gui but he doesn't have long flowing hair.
I like how you didn't even reply to my point about Latendresse not being a top 6 forward.
Please, Lats a whipping boy?
You must be confused. Everybody knows Ryder was the whipping boy. Back to back 30 goal seasons, has 1 bad year and they couldn't have got ridden of him any faster. Shameful how he was treated by the Canadiens.
If there's anybody who'll come back to bite the Habs, it'll be him.

Right on man, can you say Ribiero? Look for Ryder to be a 25+ goal man again with a solid Boston team. Carbo is not a communicator.
Come on everyone. So many of you screamed bloody murder for all kinds of moves Carbo made last season. And if I remember right, he almost won coach of the year and we finished FIRST in the CONFERANCE. So leave him alone, let him do his job, and wait till we lose 5 in a row before opening your traps.
Jim-out.
I BELIEVE!
That's a big AMEN to that, LizardKing!
Gilbert
2008/09 is the season of the Habs
That's an even bigger "AMEN" to that guy's!!!!
And people say the media is bad, come on guys, this is our team, lets give them a chance to gel. Look at our first two lines, these guys are going to rack up the points. Defense is covered with our top 4, so what if breezer is playing, there are much worse defencemen around the league than him. And let us not forget about Carey, he will win us games singlehandedly. Have confidence in Carbo, he knows a heck of a lot more about hockey then anyone of us...
Go Habs Go!
not our best lineup. with the talent bursting at the seams, it seems odd that a defensemen is playing up front and a fourth line plumber at best is playing with high skilled guys like lang and kost. pax, d'agostini, maxwell...i'm sure that any one of these can fill in for a game or two while higgins heals.
I am repeating what I have posted a few days ago.
"I really hope that this time, the media and the fans show more patience with the team. The second and the third line will need at least 10 games to establish the chemistry."
Also, let's give Carbo a chance to show us how he manages the team.
