A merciless butt-kicking

posted by Mike Boone at 13h54 EST on Nov 13

Boston dominated in all four zones: offensive, neutral, defensive and, most ominously, between the ears of your Montreal Canadiens.

This 6-1 stomping was worse than Saturday night in Toronto.

The reg-season winning streak against Boston is over ... and it might be a while until another one starts.

J.T.'s wrap-up:

-That garden gnome Julien is thrilled by this. Good for him. He's suffered the humilations of the damned for the last two years and finally reaped his reward.

-Habs, under the gun to score, looked like they were on the PK all period.

-Something's wrong with this team. They've got talent and they've got speed. But they don't have...something. Something important.

-The team didn't play well defensively, but Price didn't make a single spectacular save. You knew every puck that should have gone in was going in. That's not good in a franchise player, young or not. He sucked, as he has in three of his last four outings. Only, now there's no Huet to stand there while Price goes to learn in Hamilton.

-In the final humiliation of the night, Komo, whom Bruins fans have been calling a pussy for two years, finally fights Lucic and loses. I could just cry. In fact, I think I will.

-Nope, I spoke too soon. Stephane Yelle's second goal was much more humiliating. I think there are heretofore unplumbed depths of humilation to come. We think we've experienced the worst, but oh...wait!...there's worse!

-First the leafs fans, now the Bruins fans singing the goodbye song. It's not going to stop here. It's like global warming. You know there's something wrong when the ice caps start melting. But you don't appreciate the catastrophe until the city is underwater.

-Skill was completely trumped by skill-with-aggression. Again. Replay of last year's playoffs.

-What's the point of Latendresse again?

-At least Ryder didn't score. That would have been too much.

-Lazy losers. Hey...I've got an idea! Let's play the Flyers next!

-Now what, Carbo?

-Now what, Bob?

3P 00:00:

Pathetic, humiliating ... and ominous

3P 1:00:

The RDS guys say it: Worse than Toronto

3P 2:00:

Benoît Brunet says he's worried about the Pleks line, especially its RW

3P 2:30:

At 6-1, we get two straight shifts of respectable hockey

3P 4:00:

Fourth line by far the best. That's worrisome.

3P Break:

So who's going to win the election?

3P 6:00:

Ward pointing out the scoreboard to Koivu

3P 7:20:

Thornton to BGL: "What would be the point?"

3P 8:00:

The Bruins are still hitting and working. That's the difference right there.

3P Break:

What's to say? The Toronto game was a fluke. This is an indicator.

3P 11:00:

Why not put Halak in?

3P 11:16:

Now we know how Bruins fans felt. But was it this bad?

Yelle

6-1

3P Break:

And of course Lucic, who's a beast from the Dub, punches out Komisarek. And to top off a delightful evening, Thornton will beat Laraque ... again

3P Break:

And of course Lucic, who's a beast from the Dub, punches out Komisarek. And to top off a delightful evening, Thornton will beat Laraque ... again

3P 13:00:

Lots of sarcastic Olé! cheers. And why not

3P 14:00:

Oh please, let it just be over

3P 15:18:

Rifght off the faceoff. Hamrlik asleep.

Lucic

5-1

3P 16:00:

Just brutal. Two shifts of total domination by the Bs

3P 16:49:

Man, if that fourth line could only score ...

2P 18:00:

Kovalev with Lang and Gui!

3P 19:00:

Pleks with the brothers

3P 19:55:

Man, make it 4-2 so it's not a total f-ing disgrace. Bob Gainey and Pierre Gauthier look like they've thrown up in their mouths, as does Carbo

3P 20:00:

Got 'em just where we want them. Oh, these aren't the Islanders? Never mind.

J.T. on the second period:

-Carbo already looks depressed behind the bench. Not a good sign, from an "emotional guy."

-I think the Habs are hoping to take every single penalty in the rule book this year, as part of the Centennial celebrations. Nice job, Carey, on the trapezoid penalty. That's a tough one to get. Got it, got it, need it, got it...

-Now I know how Bruins fans have felt for the last two years. Ugh. I have to keep a bucket handy for the third.

-Habs have had more owners this season than a run-down racehorse.

-I had a root canal today...seriously, I did...and that was more fun than this.

-It's become more important than ever to vote the Habs into the All-Star starting lineup. We're not going to be seeing them after April if this keeps up, so we should get as much enjoyment out of this season as we can.

-Was Carbo yelling at the refs in that closeup, or was he reflexively telling Ryder to go to the pressbox?

-If I were Bob Gainey, I'd seriously consider being unclassy and dumping Lang for Sundin. Seriously. I don't care about angering players at this point. I want to win, and this lineup isn't skating in June.

-Koivu is the Habs' heart. He proves it every night.

-Why can our team not fight for the puck like that? They're not smaller. They're not less talented. Could the issue be somewhere located in the rib cage?

Michel Bergeron:

Boston's inferiority complex? Over.

Jacques Demers:

Two words: Not competing.

Joël Bouchard crumples a piece of paper, tosses it over hs shoulder and says there's nothing to analyze.

The Canadiens have not shown up.

Four straight stinkers on the road, if you're keeping score.

2P 00:00:

Koivu good on the PP. Pleks not so good

2P 2:00:

PP.

A goal here ...

2P 3:00:

The comeback is stillborn

2P 4:00:

Stuart gets back on Sergei, Wheeler hounds Tanguay ... this is how you win

2P 5:40:

Fernandez coughing up rebound. Must be getting bored.

2P Break:

Carbo puts out the fourth line. Momentum changer? I fear not.

2P 6:26:

First shot of the periuod.

And it;s in.

Koivu, hustling

4-1

2P Break:

Not a single shot on goal. Second on the puck. Losing every battle. Just gruesome.

2P 7:20:

Bad changes at the bench. Pierre Houde says "nothing, nothing, nothing is working.

No shots yet.

2P 10:03:

Another penalty.

Brutal

2P 11:20:

Canadiens zone has more turnovers than Tim Horton's. Shots are 5-0

2P 12:20:

Kovalev on the fourth line. Message?

2P Break:

So what do you think? Uglier than Toronto? Scarier because that was an aberrational outing against a crap team. Boston is good, and clearly better tonight.

2P Break:

So what do you think? Uglier than Toronto? Scarier because that was an aberrational outing against a crap team. Boston is good, and clearly better tonight.

2P 14:17:

Kobasew slides to block a shot andthe crowd loves it. Blue-collar hockey is big down there. Canadiens play frilled-collar hockey

2P 15:00:

What's on the other channel?

2P 16:16:

Great! Price makes a bonehead mistake, and Sturm cashes a rebound.

4-0

Over

Except for dumb-ass fights

1P 17:30:

What a stat: It had been 624 minutes and 20 seconds since Bruins led Canadiens in a regular-season game

1P 19:00:

Sure, Lucic is going to beat Gorges. But how does Kessel outmuscle Bouillon?

2P 19:55:

If Canadiens get the next goal ...

2P 20:00:

Joël Bouchard says no turnovers and skate, skate, skate

Pull Price?:

Demers says No.

Technical problems:

The blog is slow. I don't know why

Between periods:

I don't see a comeback here. Boston gained confidence with every shift, and Fernandez – with a big assist from the goalpost – stoned the Canadiens. Two goals by the fourth line is more embarrassing than Toronto

J.T. on the first:

She's so upset she thinks Scott Thornton is playing for Boston ...

-Scott Thornton? Dandenault should sit right now, and Komisarek has dropped below three-million per in the running contract tally; his all-star vote ranking notwithstanding.

-Ryan O'Byrne apparently has yet to realize he is the QE II of NHL defencemen. No way should Patrice Bergeron be knocking him off the puck. Yet, once again, there is a large divide between what should be and what is.

-Right at this minute? I would not re-sign Alex Kovalev. But I hear Ekaterina Gordeeva is looking for a partner.

-I think Robert Lang has hit more posts than Mick Jagger's hit groupies.

-Some of the Boston fans' orgasm is getting on me. I feel dirty.

-I think of all of them I hate Blake Wheeler the most. Because he didn't choose our team.

-Boston is good. Now, watch friggin' Brian Burke displace Chiarelli, parachute into the GM job and leech off Boston's success.

-What's with the puck flying up in the air like that? Price looks like he's playing second.

-Josh Gorges' streak for not allowing PP goals against is over. Perfect timing.

-Three goals on eleven shots is deceptive. The team played like crap, and it's only Boston's disorganization to thank that there weren't more shots and more goals.

-Stanley Cup contenders, my ass.

1P 00:06:

That's on Gorges ... and he knows it.

Sturm

3-0

1P 1:42:

Soft call on Gui!

1P 3:00:

What a mess. Koivu turnover in the neutral zone and Yelle takes advantage of rice's inability to control the first shot.

2-0

1P 3:40:

They said BGL talked to Lucic

1P 4:30:

Many Fernandez is looking very steady

1P Break:

That PP wasn't pretty. No one goes to the net. All that peripheral passing is useless

1P 6:00:

With the Bruins down a man and a stick, Markov makes a soft pass onthe PP

1P 8:01:

First PP, thanks to Koivu

1P 8:20:

Lucic on Kovy: that's not a penalty? Jeeeeeez!

1P Break:

Can't be muscled by Chuck Kobasew, for cryin' out loud. But it's up and down the ice now, after that slow start

1P 10:20:

Sergei to Gui! to Lang ... DING, off the post. Great shift for that line

1P 11:00:

Which of these teams played in Chicago last night?

1P 11:40:

RDS guys say Komisarek is in a fog

1P 12:40:

Kpvy makes a great pass to Plekanec. And then stays on too long, for a change

1P Break:

Canadiens settling down. But I wouldn't want it to get to 2-0. Thornton: that's brutal

1P 14:30:

All Boston. Totally dominant. Five shots already

1P 15:21:

Very shaky start. Passes are not crisp

1P 16:13:

AK46 just flew around Lucic, but Bruins roared right back up ice

1P :

Thornton?

Who was worse on that Dandenault or Komisarek

1-0

1P :

Axelsson on top of Price. Here we go again.

1P 19:30:

Nice chance on a Markov pinch.

Jacques Demers:

lauds the low-key excellence of Roman Hamrlik, whom he coached as a rookie in Tampa Bay. Bouchard talks about huge minutes for Boston's Top 4 D. Tiring them out in a back-to-back game will be important

My man Josh Gorges:

High praise from RDS guys

TD Banknorth Garden:

Horrible building. Zero atmosphere

Ouch!:

Top 10 Canadiens-Bruins highlights includes Stan Jonathan pounding the snot out of Pierre Bouchard. Number One, of couyrse, is Don Cherry's too-many-mengame

Gaston Therrien:

Shows excellent man-marking against Ottawa ... until it breaks down and Alfie gets a great chance. He thinks Boston fatigue will be a factor if the Canadiens forecheck and try to spend a lot of time in the Boston end. He thinks Claude Julien plays Chara too much.

The key tonight:

For me is push-back. I think the Bruins will come out thumping. Canadiens have to be ready to play and win a very physical game.

Blake Wheeler:

Articulate kid. Pretty cool being a free agent at 21.

Steve Bégin:

RDS shows better stats when he played for Claude Julien. But how many injuries ago was that?

High finance:

Thanks to poster ddawwidd for this link to a Liverpool fan site

OK, I can turn the RDS sound off now ...:

CFL coverage

My man, Joël Bouchard:

Analyzes Ryan O'Byrne's development. Not as physical as Komo, has trouble with first pass. Advises Carbo to be "extremely patient" with a young defenceman. Credits him with size, a good shot and superior skating.

Bruins fan site:

Pokes fun at "Mary-Kate and Ashley Kostitsyn"

Bruins travel:

Arrived at 3:45 a.m. No morning skate.

Luc Gélinas:

reports on the crazy All-Star voting. "Pretty amazing," says Saku. Mike Komisarek says his Dad accounts for half the votes, 16,000 per half hour.

Benôit Brunet:

tells Chantal we sometimes forget how young Carey Price is. Praises Blake Wheeler, playing with Marco Sturm and David Krejci

On Melnick's show, Pierre McGuire says ...:

Zdeno Chara is playing his best hockey since the Ottawa days and the Marc Savard-Phil Kessel-Milan Lucic line is on fire. The Bruins have much improved their team speed. Two hopeful indicators for Canadiens fans: Boston has an atrocious PK, and they had to travel back from Chicago last night, losing an hour in the time-zone change

As Kurtz says in Apocalypse Now..."the horror...the horror! What a pathetic effort and really painful to watch. Good thing I got a phone call in the third period and was distracted for the 5 and 6th goals. Hoping for a better effort on Saturday night from the Jeckyll and Hydes of hockey. They'll be porting the colours of the '46 Canadiens in the second "vintage" night. Let's hope they assimilate some of the tradition of this great franchise.

A few things that I think need to be done stat: Switch Komi and Gorges on D. Komi has no business being on the first D pairing right now. He's either injured, doing drugs, or just lazy. All he's trying to do right now is go for a big hit and he misses most of the time and getting himself out of position. Maybe even sit Komi for a game or two. As soon as Kosto comes back, put him back with Lang. Everybody was saying how great Lang would be when he got somebody better than Kosto to play with. Not. If other guys have to drop the gloves, then sit Laracque. Bring up a couple of Bulldogs for a bit to stir things up. Some guys are getting way too comfortable with their jobs. _____________________________________________________ Mad Pax...Beyond Powerdome

Bad night all around. No big saves by Price. Brain dead D and forwards lost in the fog. Few scoring chances, bad bounces and no work ethic. I know it's a long season, and I'm glad the team is sucking in November and not April, but where was the leadership on the ice last night? Koivu, Kovy, Hamrlik, Markov and Komi need to raise the bar and demand that their teammates do the same. Gilbert 2008/09 is the season of the Habs

I have the answer kids...you want heart, you want passion, you want attitude then get the King behind the bench...no not Elvis you schmuck...Patrick Roy. There is no one in this league who hated losing more than Patrick Roy. On the night we retire his jersey let's retire Carbohydrate to the press box with Bob Gravey and let the sparks fly behind the bench. You will then see passion with players leaping over the boards just to get away from this mad man. Imagine the forest of sticks flying through the air on many a night, or the ice colored a psycho rainbow of colors as bottles of different flavors of gatorade crashed across the frozen surface, the air filled with words that used to be curse words in la belle province but now denote speaking to seals...and as added *** kicking incentive for the King we would have that idiot Mario Trembley's face glued to the *** of each player's pants in case Patrick needed all the more reason to kick some butt. Oh and yes Patrick, please bring your nutso kid with you in case we need to beat someone up during the game now that BLG thinks he's a behind-the-net play maker ala Gretzky. Tip for you big guy: The Great One played with his *** facing the boards, not the back of the net. Patrick Roy is our answer and he's available for Saturday. What a night! What a chance to bask in the warmth of our 25th Cup. The Savior walks amoung us. Make the call Bob, make the call.

Players are too comfortable... other than 5 guys sharing 3 4th line duties, nobody else is going to sit, cause according to carbonneau all spots are determined and filled. So why would they try? (I mean, naturally, things like pride, respect for the fans, and sheer hate of losing need not enter the equation)

i'm more worried about the center than i am about the RW. Pleks hasn't been himself and i feel is dragging the other two with him. i thought kots sr skated well tonight. I've said it before, but i don't understand why kovy's line is not on to start every powerplay like they did last year. we had the best PP in the league. It seems this year kovy and co. only get the last 30 seconds. its a long season and better to get things straightened out now rather than run into these problems when it counts (aka ottawa last year). finally, carbo has to find a way to get better consistancy from these guys. his job is to get them ready and they don't seem prepared.

agreed he looks like the same little girl I remember from last spring

hey, little girls can be vicious sometimes. I think we have to steal his barbie.

temekuhabs's picture
Boone: WTF Now???!!???

I think the main problem with the KPK line is shooting the puck. They seem to play with the so mouch and never get anything accomplished. Ya, they're struggling but if Carbo can get them focused on just putting puck to the net and driving, they can maybe score some ugly goals that will confidence. 4-1 at the end of the second, Pleks had the puck in the slot and passed. He has to put it on net.

I agree with you. The Carbo thing bothers me the most. It's not like he can give the post-TO rant after every ugly loss and expect it to work in the next game. Even if somehow it did, it's effectiveness will surely wane each time he has to employ it.

LongIslandHabsFan's picture
I know it's just a regular season game, but the most troubling thing in listening to the interviews with Koivu, Price and Kovalev is that none of them sounded pissed off. Carbo's got to instill some pride in this club.

Price's confidence appears to be very fragile. If an opposing team scores on him early, he seems to lose his focus. If a team lets him get into his groove, he's capable of pretty amazing things. I think he's putting too much pressure on himself and it's affecting his performance. The whole team was pretty flat tonight and every little bounce seemed to go Boston's way. Julien has the Bruins playing great hockey. They are no longer the Hab's doormat. Does anyone think that this edition of the Habs may be overhyped just like last year's edition wasn't given their due respect?

Does anyone think that maybe it would have done Price some good to get him an experienced back up to help him deal with the highs and lows of a season. I'm worried that the Habs are playing with fire when it comes to him. Roy always had a dependable back up when he faltered and he played behind a very realiable defense--the Habs are going to piss this season away if they're not careful. Too much sizzle and not enough steak to be called a Cup contender just yet

Willy the bum's picture
Yeah. So a message to the media: back the F*%@ off and let the Habs play some real games! ...bunch of savages... ---------- "We all wore the same costume as Maurice Richard did; the red-white-and-blue costume of the Montréal Canadiens, the best hockey team in the world." - Roch Carrier

The bottom line is that Price is the first-string goaltender on the most storied franchise in hockey. Either he will suck it up and succeed, or he will fail and be the equivalent of the late Doug Wickenheiser between the pipes.

It'll be a disaster if Price doesn't pan out. The team has invested way too much for him not to suceed. Mistakes like that set a franchise back for years.

He had the numbers at the time, but drafting Wickenheiser instead of Denis Savard is where the train came off the tracks!

I am not a basher, I have watched all of this year's games (twice live) and I would say with few exceptions they have not come as billed. Those who say that this is just 2 bad games out of three are delusional. I don't see much speed and skill on display - very few odd man rushes and almost no converted odd man rushes. With out a top of the league power play to recover from dismal even strength play with no forecheck, even when they win it is not very convincing. They even seem weak when they shoot the puck.

Steiner's picture
I'm one of those people who will take a deep breath after a game, put it behind me and hope the next game will be better. Tonight, I turned off the game with 10 minutes to go. I've never done that in my life. It's a long season, but this game is an indication that something will need to be done. I'm not necessarily talking about trades and transactions, I'm talking about a little discipline and mentality towards the games changing. When I go to work every morning, I'm prepared to do my work. I get my job done, and go home. Some days, better than others, but never the less I put in the effort. I dont make anywhere near a rookie salary. It's the lack of effort that's irritating. Someone needs to clue these guys in that its not only their centennial year, but its OURS too. In fact, its probably more the fans centennial than the players on the ice. After all, most of us have been around far longer than the players being iced, and I'm only 22. And while none of us really expect them to realistically win every night, we at least expect a half decent effort. It's time the team decided to show up for the season, and quit it with the half-a** performances. Leave the rink, go to bed. Get your butt back there the next morning for a hard workout. Far too often I see these guys out after a game, drinking and partying their millions away. And while it's always a pleasure to party with the kings of the town, I can't help but be frustrated by their endless partying, and then their poor performances. Get these guys a curfew or something. Enough of the joking around at practice - we've all seen the pictures - until there's some sort of consistency, some sort of effort. I'm not going to sit here an analyze different players. As Joel Bouchard said, theres no point. The whole game was a mess, and there was no little nit-picky things to talk about. Thank god Saku at least scored. It was said here before, without him I dont know where the heart of the team would be. They should know better that one fantastic performance one night, is only remembered until the next puck drop. I want this to be a season to remember, just as much as they do. So boys, put these games behind you, get in the drivers seat and start to put a little pressure on yourselves, and do us all a favor, show up for 60 minutes, humor us a little. Then no one will care what the hell you do on your free time. Just remember, this is our year too.

howtathor's picture
Steiner, if I went to work and performed like the Habs did last night I would probably be on the street in no time!

Vid's picture
You party with Habs' players and get hugs from Kovy? Oh and good point on everything else.

Willy the bum's picture
I think for all fans, we shouldn't care for the centennial year or the media hype over the team... We should be calm and patient and let the Habs play with ease. That way, if the team really wanted us to care and cheer, they should win every time to get our esthusicatism... esthusiactism... (crap, I need Spell Checker!) ---------- "We all wore the same costume as Maurice Richard did; the red-white-and-blue costume of the Montréal Canadiens, the best hockey team in the world." - Roch Carrier

I'm absolutely with you on the "let them play" ideal. But tonight was just so frustrating. I dont think the media hype gets to them, but I do think that fan expectation does. There's definitely a difference in my opinion.

Very well said.

If U R paying good money to have your house painted and they make a *** half job, R U going to say "oh well" they will paint it better the next time..... NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO U R paying good money, U want a good job don't U. Same goes for Hockey. If we loose when we play our best it is acceptable. But loosing like the past to slaughters is sickening..

Ouch! This one hurt. My thoughts on Price is not that he lets in soft goals, tonight he did not make any spectacular saves. In fairness, he did not have much help. It is just that this team needs to be saved sometimes by great goaltending, that's not what they got. Regarding Laraque, I have tried to be patient but what does he contribute? Why is Begin sitting and Laraque is playing? We needed a tough player like Begin, who hustles, tonight. Having said that, there is no reason to panic and there is no immediate help in Hamilton (MaxPac is a work in progress). The kids aren't ready yet. I heard Kovy's interview, sometimes lessons take a little longer to learn. The team rebounded from the Toronto loss and thought they had everything solved, the Bruins taught them otherwise. They had better learn quickly to be ready for the Flyers.

Most of you people sound like canuck fans. Its an 82 game season relax. No need to state the obvious, lets hope they put this one behind them and come out hard next time. Last time i checked they dont hand out the stanley cup in november.

the Islanders played an almost perfect game against the Sens tonight

After tonight's display, Laracque should just ask to be traded or sent down to the A. Given his skill set, his job was to ensure than things like the Komisarek ding dong with Lucic never, ever happen. Do you guys have any idea what a target Komisarek is gonna be going forward? My advice to him in the next game is just randomly grab one of the opposing players and rag-doll him up and down the ice. I don't care who it is, just do it!

I don't think protecting Komi is what BG had in mind

BG has to help other big, but less talented fighters keep up the ruse. (See Dryden's discussion re Robinson in The Game.)

The skinny is that after ding-dongs like the one with Dave Schultz, he didn't fight much at all. Sure, he was menacing, he would point his finger at opposition players, but rarely if ever did he drop his mitts. His losing a fight would have been much more damaging to his image and the team than avoiding one.

Every time the Habs come out with a half-assed effort and get waxed, there are a ton of excuses. If this was the '75-'79 team dropping the odd game to the California Golden Seals, I would cut them some slack, but they ain't.

I didn't (couldn't) watch the whole game. I was worried this may happen tonight. B's are very motivated to redeem last years embarrasing loses. Habs do not have the same work ethic. Sens are also, dare I say, a team without identity. The Leafs, Bruins have an identity - hard working, skating teams, looking to make the most of their opportuties. Too many players on Habs think they have tenur and are not challenged to rise to the occassion each and EVERY game. Kovy is old Kovy again. Lats needs a couple years in Hamilton to find a game. Price (love him) but some nights he just thinks everything is going to hit him - very young which these games will help his development but this wasn't to be a development year. He needs to learn he can't do it on talent alone. Where is the 07-08 Markov? Was Hammer tired tonight? Komi - stop trying to do too much. If I see another wrist shot from the cirle right in the breadbasket of the goalie by Higgins again I'm going to throw something at the big 47" HDTV I bought to watch these bums. Uh, A. Kost - you want to playin the KHL? Can't hack real hockey? Too many others and perhaps the Team as a whole, including Carbo, are a little too comfortable, a little to cocky but not giving their opponents enough respect for their "less talented" teams. We can beat the "light" teams like the Sens any game of the week but when a hungry, motivated, hard working team who has a point to prove, we do not have the mental strength to match them. Talent can be outplayed by hard work. A combo of both is what we expected from this team and the fans won't settle for anything less. Bob is watching and he won't be afraid to shake things up if certain players (and a Coach) don't perform. If your going to lose, lose at playing your best - no shame in that. But losing without putting up a better than respectful effort makes them a bunch of pussies(cats) and somewhat embarrasing for their loyal fans. I hope they are learning these lessons quickly because if they think they can coast through the year and try to turn it on for the playoffs they will out early. Tonight isnt even close to how hard the competition will be in the playoffs. Talent will get us into the playoffs but that will be it and just another repeat of last year with an empty feeling of "what happened?"

Wel this is not a stanley cup team, they cant take the forcheck or any checking, its time to re look the dressing room there is a cancer eating this team and the mood is affected .we need some positive leadership to help Koivu .If some of them dont want to play sit them no matter who. They are not working and getting their *** kicked .Talent is useless with no work.

It's never just one person, either it's the leader or a talent player... it's should be TEAM EFFORT! From one of those hilarious characters in that show Arrested Development, Steve Holt: "There's no 'I' in 'WIN'!" ---------- "We all wore the same costume as Maurice Richard did; the red-white-and-blue costume of the Montréal Canadiens, the best hockey team in the world." - Roch Carrier

Guys, do you all really expect the Habs will be in first place again by the time the regular season is over? So they lost the game tonight (in a very big way, no less) and Boston is celebrating like they won the playoff round... BUT it's just a regular season game, and somehow the Habs will lose some games like that throughout the year. Gotta be positive in things to come; be confident! ---------- "We all wore the same costume as Maurice Richard did; the red-white-and-blue costume of the Montréal Canadiens, the best hockey team in the world." - Roch Carrier

The problem with the Habs (and other teams) is MONEY..... The players get paid too much money. A player gets paid 3 million a year for 5 years. If he gets 10 goals in the next 5 yrs, he still gets his full 15 million. What insentive is it for them to play good every night when they know they will still get their big Bucks. They play like crap and still get paid. If a common man did that he would be FIRED. The worst that can happen to a player is get sent to the press box and still get paid. They all should get a base salary and a bonus for goals scored. If you want to make the big bucks, U have to produce. It is like a salesman on commission. If he wants to make large coin, he has to work, work , work & sell, sell, sell. There is no way that a bunch of men getting paid millions of $$$ should put on a show like that. If I did not produce day in a day out I would be fired!!! Just like most posters in here. They get paid Millions to work 2 - 3 days a week at the most....... Shame full. Not one player in the NHL is worth more than $250,000.00 Per year.........

The problem with that kind of incentive is that the whole team starts puck hoggin' like Kovalev and evrybody pouts about who they have to or don't get to play with. Also there are a bunch of guys who will be free agents next year on the team. You would think the incentive to play for more money would help, but so far only Koivu is playing like he wants a raise.

I do not like calling out players but i am concerend with Laraque. He does not seem to be trying out there. Is he still not in shape? Is he hurt? He really can't seem to skate. mjames

BGL looks retarded...........

His job is to make sure that what happened to Komisarek tonight never, ever happens. He needs to go.

Gr8stFranchizEvr's picture
I think Gainey needs to take BGL into a back alley and show him what his job is supposed to be.

And, when he's finished with BGL, he should go through the whole damn roster.

All Gainey needs is that stare and no one will ever screw with him. That stare of no emotion can cause a grown man to wet his bed.

BG needs to bottle "the look" and give it to each of the players on the roster to put above his locker stall.

LongIslandHabsFan's picture
Price looked like he did in the Flyers series last year, and Umberger wasn't even playing for the Bruins. Sickening.

The Montreal media will have the knives out when the team gets back home. If I were a betting man I would imagine most of the criticism will lie with Carbo. It will be interesting to see how he reacts. Will he clam up and show arrogance....likely, or take it like a man and self analyze and reflect on his coaching. This could get very ugly. BG is too astute a GM not to have contingency plans either in place or being prepared. Not saying Carbo will be fired immediately, just that BG must have a back up plan ready if things don't improve.

Gr8stFranchizEvr's picture
I highly doubt the GM will fire his coach and friend in the team's 100th anniversary year! But, then again, stranger things have happened...

Dare to dream, my friend. carbonneau will not go while Gainey is a GM. I am willing to bet that carbonneau thinks it's all players fault and he is the victim. (i am not saying it wasn't also players fault, but carbo has a big role to play in tonight's loss)

The boss shows up for work, going over the details of what he wants done with his employees. The bell rings to start the shift and everybody drags ***, looking for the other guy to do what needs doing. Remember, the boss just told them what he wants done and how to do it. Is it the boss' fault? Carbo can't bench the whole team when they don't show up, but he can stick a few asses in the stands. Gilbert 2008/09 is the season of the Habs

Can't you just love the Habs for what they are?

TripleX's picture
Usually you and I are on the same wavelength Timo, but not on this one. BG is loyal yes, but only to a point. I think he is smart enough to dump his friend if circumstances deem it to be the best move. BG does not strike me as an overly sentimental guy. Hey, one can always dream eh Timo?

I've been dreaming for the past 16 years and it has mostly been bad.

As posted by me previously, but I've got some stuff to add: Two embarrasments on the road. This is why: Carbo is an ok coach as far as establishing line chemistry, and on special teams. He is NOT a very good bench manager, and this weakness gets exposed on the road where the other team gets last change. Our defence is not very good. This gets exposed on the road because of Carbo's poor bench management creates situations where there is not enough defensive help from the forwards when the opposing coach gets their preferred line matchups. Hamrlik is not playing nearly as well as he did last year, and Komo looks kind of slow. The lack of speed in both of these guys gets further exploited by Carbo bungling the line matchups on the road. Komo being slow causes issues with Markov trying to contribute offensively. Every time one of those guys makes a mistake, it ends up in our net. O'B has been awful, Breezer hasn't been much better. Laraque is SUPER slow, which AGAIN gets exploited by the home team matchups. He was -2 tonight. Suggestions: Carbo needs to wake up and realize that he can't just run 4 lines on the road. When he does we get embarrassed. If Carbo DOES want to run 4 lines on the road, he needs to structure them differently and he cannot play Laraque; BGL is just too slow to get caught in the home teams matchups, and he needs to make sure there's someone defensively minded on each line to help "mask" our deficiencies on the blueline. Higgins - Koivu - Tanguay (<-- this line seems ok on the road) Kovy - Pleks - Kostopolous A. Kost - Lang - S. Kost Lats - Laps - Begin Keep in mind, you should be looking to win road games 2-1 not 6-4. Carbo should know this, and get his head back in the game. It's not the players who have been unprepared to win on the road, it's the coach.

wasn't it Huet who said last year that the Habs were fragile between the ears? Tonight showed that their also missing something below the belt as well.

Lol... good one :)

RDS is saying that Komisarek might have an injured hand. Not too bad, if you ask me... he could use some time in a press box and maybe think about what he needs to do to be Mike Komisarek of mid 2007-2008 season again.

tony d's picture
all i can say is, the equipment handler's gonna need the industrial size "Febreze" to get rid of the stench from the Habs uniforms tonight and on that note, I will go to sleep ...much like our boys did ce soir

Chorske's picture
What can be said that hasn't already been said? Carbo needs to find a way to stimulate this talented team that seems to take destiny for granted, and turn it into a team that fights hard every shift. On the plus side, we've been having this Fall meltdown earlier and earlier each year. If we could just arrange for it to hit in August... but allow me to channel Nostrodamus for a mo and boldly predict that this year we're stuck with a November meltdown. I predict that the meltdown will not be prolonged- they're never that bad as far as meltdowns go, because a 'meltdown' to a Habs fan is the team going .500 over two-three weeks, with a couple of back to back losses. These meltdowns are often triggered by dramatic losses against either the Bruins or the Leafs. I therefore predict .500 hockey over the next two weeks, starting... NOW. I predict there will be a goaltending controversy. I predict that lines will be shuffled, and vets will be pissed off. I predict that there will be movement between Hamilton and Montreal (not Max Pax, Habs Professor... now is not his time... patience, grasshopper). I predict that no major trades will be made, because really, our problem isn't on the ice, it's between the ears. Bringing in new bodies won't solve that problem. I predict that video sessions will become a regular feature. I predict that the kinks will be sorted by Christmas.

You may be right, Chorske... i think we need to prepare for some lousy hockey at least until xmas.

Our Habs R in serious, serious trouble Boys & girls ....... I love Price but I have to say it. One shut out does not make up for two games at six goals per game. Every goal should have been stoped by Price tonight. Not one goal should have caused him difficulty.... How can Price play such a great game one night and stink so bad the next? I think that teams R figuring the Habs out.... Well that's not to hard is it?

twocents's picture
The teams' play was indefensible tonight. The fact that they have messed the bed twice in the past three games is problematic and a sign that the team needs to be shook up some how. That can come in many different forms. Maybe it's time for Saku to stand up and demand some accountability. The inner workings of the team are not known to us. Having said all that, it's early in the season and there's time to learn from these losses. Obviously, Philly is a big game Saturday and then the rematch with Boston on St. Patty's Day.

Pjilly is another team that might not make playoffs. So even if Habs win it won't be an indication of anything. I would like to see them play Anaheim or San Jose on saturday to see what they're really made of.

Gr8stFranchizEvr's picture
I couldn't take the pain of watching the Ducks or Sharks chew and spit out the Habs this weekend. I think we already know what they're made of: cottony soft goodness!

twocents's picture
I think the fact that they are facing the team that eliminated them in last year's playoffs still makes the game significant, especially following this mess. I also think it's a bit early to be passing judgment on Philly.

Maybe... I am not saying I will be unhappy with a win, but it would be a lot more telling if they beat a strong western team.

twocents's picture
I agree that it's not the toughest test right now, but it's meaningful.

So do you guys think that the team gave up on the coaches? Lets face it, can't be loving carbonneau too much. The guys on l'antichambre brought up the point that evertbody gets more/less equal ice time. I bet that a few "talented" players on the team are pissed about that.

noooo, they love seeing Dandy taking all their minutes
