YES! Upshall runs Halak and goes.

3P 3:22:

Richards is just a pleasure to watch.

OT 3:50:

I'm losing count of Komo screw-ups.

OT 4:17:

Man, when the Captain cranks it up. And Higgins, too.

3P 00:00:

Whew! A good point.

3P 00:52:

Where would this team be without Markov?

3P 1:30:

terrible time clearing

3P 2:20:

Canadiens playing for the point? Dangerous

3P Break.:

Laraque has made a huge difference tonight, eh?

3P 3;00:

Hamrlik hurt

3P 4:00:

Not the greatest PP until Pleks gets on.

Schneider doesn't panic

3P Break.:

Great game. Canadiens are getting chances off their forecheck

3P 7:50:

Man, that Philadelphia D is brutal

3P 8:30:

They're getting good at this stretch pass to the man leaving the box

3P 9:30:

How did they miss?

3P 10:40:

Richards: what a great player! Check Kovalev, then races up ice to cause a penalty.

3P Break.:

Amazing shift by Metropolit's line. They didn't score, but they wore down a crappy Philadelphia D

Canadiens have few guys who can score

3P 13:00:

Ouf!

3P 14:17:

Flyers overplaying Kovy on the PP, just like they did in the playoffs

3P 19:00:

Komo got away with one

3P 20:00:

Please: no more Philadelphia PPs. Because they won't go 0-for-Friday on home ice

JT on the second:

-Damn, Carbo and the purple tie again. I have yet to see them win when he wears the stupid purple tie.

-Halak might be Slovakian, but I think he's got an inkling of what the leaders of Ireland's Easter Rising felt like when they stood in front of the firing squad.

-Heroes of the five-on-three again tonight. A good thing too, because the Koivu call wasn't justified.

-But...taking a ton of penalties is going to cost them. Loss of discipline loses games.

-St.Jaro of Halak deserves a better D. What the hell was Breezer doing on the tying goal? And what the hell are Komisarek and Hamrlik doing the rest of the time? I know Breeze has his good points, but on plays like that one, he reminds me of Kathy Bates in "Misery." You whack him with the typewriter and you think he's gone...but he suddenly pops up again and scares the crap out of you.

-If the Canadiens pull this off, it'll be despite themselves.

Trade rumour:

Phil Kessel for Pronger. Can you imagine Pronger and Chara in the playoffs?

BGL:

3:59 ToI. Riley Coté: 3:18. And these guys are in the NHL because ...

2P 00:01:

Carter: how idiotic is that?

2P 1;17:

Hamrlik for high-sticking. This is killing me.

2P 2:30:

Houde says Komo is "méconnaissable", unrecognizable.

2P 2:42:

Stupid Stewart. This will cost them

2P 2:45:

Canadiens are totally out of synch. If they can escape this period ...

2P 3:00:

Markov and Schneider are the only reliable pairing

2P 4:55:

Halak is saving their ass ... for now

2P Break:

Komisarek! Wassup with this guy? His game has evaporated

2P 6:00:

Key sequence now. This will determine the game.

2P 6:17:

Brisebois. Every freakin' game.

3-3

2P 6:45:

AK46 has to work harder on the PP. And on the second wave a pass nearly skips past Breeze at the point. wasted PP

2P Break:

Man, that PK is hummin' And now another PP.

2P 10:16:

Flyers PP is sputtering

2P 11:02:

Very bad, Max. They're playing with fire

2P 11:30:

Max-Pac is going to be GREAT!!

3P 12:30:

Kovy has come alive. Checking, playing D, doing it all.

2P 13:05:

Shots are 7-1 and Canadiens just  got their first

2P Break:

A too-long shift for Schneider, Markov and the fourth line

2P 15:00:

Pleks line terrifies Flyers D

2P 15:45:

Jaro is getting hot.

1P 16:25:

Kovy great on the 3-5 PK. So's everyone else, especially Halak

2P 18:25:

Oh, man!

2P 18:47:

How can Pleks bitch that call? Clear as day

2P 19:20:

Still Niiity

2P 20:00:

Stevens must have scorched the walls between periods. And now Jaro has to step up

J.T. on the first:

-It's not exactly been an auspicious start for Metropolit. Did Holmgren send a ringer to the Habs' side tonight?

-The gems of the 2003 first round are on display tonight. And Andrei Kostitsyn went in that round too.

-Kovalev has been a pretty effective penalty killer a lot this year.

-Komisarek and Hamrlik are killing the Habs. Hamrlik is sucking harder than a two-year-old with a milkshake and a straw. And whatever GM signs Komisarek to a massive deal this summer is going to be severely disappointed unless he's actually injured right now. If he is, he should sit. If he's not, well, you ask for whom the bell tolls? It tolls for him.

-Carbo's got to stop rolling four lines, if only because two of them roll like bricks.

-How nice to see someone else's goalie look as open as the North Pole Holiday Inn at Christmas for a change.

-Max Pacioretty is a real gem of a budding player. I'm honestly afraid the Canadiens are going to ruin him. You don't want a guy like him to become complacent about losing. They need to win for his sake, if nothing else.

-D'Agostini apparently went to the Chris Higgins school of singing goalposts.

-If only we can get Philly to hold off on Biron for one more period...

Biron?:

I hope so. Can't spell Niiiiiitttttyyyyymaaaaaakiiiiiiiii

1P 00:00:

How did D'Ags miss?

1P 00:40:

That Philly D? Peeeeee-yew!

1P 1:31:

tellme again why Biron didn't start? Kovy

3-2

1P 2:17:

Do you like offensive hockey? This is a barnburner

1P 2:53:

Metropolit is on fire here

Boone knows NOTHING!!!!:

I was sure this was over

1P 3:22:

Wow! Kostopoulos!!

2-2

1P 3:35:

That red-hot PP. Pleks 2-1

1P 3:58:

The PK is effective ... and Coburn takes a stupid penalty on Markov

1P Break:

AHL call-up Jared Ross beats Komisarek along the boards and the Flyers go on the PP again. Man, this is brutal.

1P 6:00:

Is Kovalev dressed for this game?

1P 7;28:

Flyers' forecheck is just killing the Canadiens' D

1P 8:10:

Not a great night for Hamrlik

1P 9:00:

TtB: what a move! No goal, of course

1P Break:

No miracles from Halak so far

1P Break:

So what's on the other channel?

1P 10:00:

Not a great Flyers D

1P 11:46:

The worst play Hamrlik has made this season? Could be

2-0

1P 12:00:

Carter is killing Koivu on draws

1P Break:

No flow to the attack but if they can keep this close ... Would have been something if Metropolit scored

1P 13:00:

Canadiens have settled down

1P 14:25:

Higgins takes a hit to make a good play on the PK. Then Niittymaki robs Metropolit on a breakaway out of the box

1P 16:34:

Metropolit goes for an inadvertent high stick. What a start

1P 17:40:

Good shift by Pleks line

1P 19:00:

Canadiens D moving in slo-mo

1P 19:32:

Oy! What a start.

Lupul 1-0. Metropolit minus-1

1P 20:00:

The old Boone Reverse Jinx: No way, folks.

Bouchard:

Says shots against are worrisome

Schneider:

The power play is 8-for-19 since he got here.

Halak:

He'll see some rubber tonight, eh?

Spring is in the air:

Pierre Houde is wearing a beige suit

Pizza?:

Jeff Carter's training diet

Four-pointer:

If Canadiens lose tonight, they can probably forget about a Top Four seeding

The Q:

is 20 years younger than I.

Norman Flynn on the Flyers:

North-south team with two Euros, one of whom is a goaltender

Bégin:

With all due respect, enough already! I guess RDS has to justify sending Lavoie all the way to Texas ...

Emotional departure:

Bégin fights tears in interview with Renaud Lavoie

Joël Bouchard:

Applauds Bob Gainey for sending Steve Bégin to a place where he'll play. He likes Metropolit's speed. The lingering question: why didn't Guy Carbonneau like Steve Bégin's game?

Biron not starting:

A head-scratcher, given his success against the Canadiens

Salary cap:

Flyers are $1.5 million over

Lucky number?:

Metropolitis the Canadiens' first 15 since Samsonov

Mike Richards:

Arguably the most complete player in the NHL. Chosen 24th overall in the first round of the 2003 draft – 14 spots behind AK46, whom I like ... but not for his completeness.

More Metropolit:

JT posts an interesting link.

Bob's shopping list:

Michel Villeneuve on CKAC suggests some names: Brendan Witt (just got suspended five games, Michel Bergeron says he's slow and useless like Jason Smith); Pavel Kubina (Jacques Demers like him: RH top-4 defenceman who played with Hamrlik in Tampa Bay); Nik Antropov (Demers and Bergeron love him and would trade Higgins in a heartbeat); Tim Connolly (too risky, say the coaches, one more concussion and he's done); Olli Jokinen (what kind of head case can't play for Waybe Gretzky); Steve Sullivan (See Tim Connolly), Keith Tkachuk. To which Bergeron would add Jason Spezza, whom he loves.

Metropolit:

Say goodnight, Kyle ... again.

I swear I'd rather have a 42 year old Shayne Corson on board for the playoffs (given the current highly skilled makeup of our team) than Higgins, Latendresse or D'Agostini...at least Corson is big, tough, a proven playoff guy and has balls/wouldn't play like a scared little girl

Hey! Lay off D'ags.

Don't diss the rookies. They are doing what they do. Hey, loved Corson.

if Claude Lemieux can come back, is there any way Gainey/Carbo can give our old buddy Shayne Corson a call? Assuming he could get into shape, would he not be a useful addition in terms of badly needed size, grit and presence in front of the opposition's net? he was the type of player who raised his game in the playoffs and knows Montreal well.

HAIL AIR EOUS! Corson should come back with his brother in law Tucker. Schneider is good. RJ Umberger Killed us last year. It is so simple it makes no sense almost.

I Love that hot dog Schneider!! Lousy second period. why so many stupid penalties? But what a win. Komo, as some will be saying soon if this keeps up does not have to go, but needs to stop making "special" plays. please. Gord Miller said that Kovy could make a play either way to win this game for either team. He won this one for the habs with a great shot from Shneider. Gord Miller loves Stephen Harper. serious. I hate Bell Globe media and Gord miller is a fine reason. Give me cuthbert or cole for anglo calls anyday. I digress: Go Halak!! Oh did we get really outshot? No.

EastCoastHab's picture
Next few games are going to be VERY important. Here is the list: Saturday: San Jose (prediction.....3 - 1 Habs) Wednesday: Buffalo (prediction.....5 - 1 Habs) Friday: Atlanta (prediction.....4 - 3 SO win) Sunday: Dallas (prediction.....5 - 3 Habs) And I am at work so I am not drinking.... We are on a 3 game winning streak so I can be a bit loopy for a while! Go Habs!

I love the armchair confidence. Nice kid. Go Habs

EastCoastHab's picture
I made a prediction last week to the boys at work about the Habs winning 7 in a row. So, since I am still riding the wave of 3 in a row why not throwing it out! Kid is a cutie, thanks very much!

Ayan_SB's picture
I know some of you have been discussing acquiring a big, strong centre before the trade deadline, but with the declining play of Komisarek and Hamrlik (and Brisebois of course), this team is in need of some effective, consistent defence. First of all, with guys like Kostoupolous and Stewart stepping up as 3rd and 4th line pluggers, I'm still baffled as to why Dandenault is not put on the blueline. Hell, even O'Byrne wasn't that bad when he came back from Hamilton. Now I gotta ask, would any of you consider bringing up some of our young prospects, such as Subban, or McDonaugh, or would their call-ups be too premature? Although Schneider adds a much needed weapon to our PP, I don't believe he makes our defence considerably better, nonetheless, paired with Markov, Schneid definitely puts Markie at ease. I still have faith in Komisarek, he's a young defenceman who shouldn't be crossed out yet. However, if the Habs really want to make a serious push for the playoffs this season, do you think they should either trade for a defenseman, and/or make any call-ups??

Breeze needs a rest, hopefully Dandy on D tomorrow night.

Chris's picture
I'm against bringing up the young'uns as it eats into the their waiver-exemption period. Young D can take a long time to develop, so eating into that exemption early might not be in the best interests of the franchise long-term. Montreal drafts NCAA players partially because they can be hidden in the NCAA for a couple of years longer than Canadian junior players, if necessary. Bringing up players to the NHL prematurely is equally undesirable, as it removes your flexibility in terms of dealing with their growing pains. Who wouldn't like to see Carey Price get some time in Hamilton right now? Problem is, 29 other teams would snap up that asset as soon as it was available.

Chris - FOA if Halak would of obtained the correct percentage of games as a backup of his quality then Price would not be over the 80 game limit, merci management. The Habs actually drafted players from the U.S.H.L. where their scouting staff keyed on these semi unknown waters to get a good picture of all the talent in this league just like teams years ago scouted Europe for surprised picks. These players are mostly all committed to College Hockey before being drafted. You say teams hide players but in reality for a player who serves his 4 years in college then turns pro he is eligible to be a UFA much quicker and especially D men and goalies who need time to develop and seeing that their 1st year pro is usually to adapt to the pro schedule. As much as i enjoy watching Pac develop as a Hab they must be aware that he still is adapting to the pro schedule and may burn out if he hasn't already so a week off would help his stamina as it's a big jump games wise. I'm also against the notion of bringing our 'D' up too early, development first.

EastCoastHab's picture
If we were 40 games in the season I would agree with you about calling up a few youngsters BUT with where we are to right now and every point counting....I don't know if we have any "feeling out games" remaining. The kids would be bound to make some mistakes (even though our defense are making mistakes now). I would like to see how PK Subban would fit in, and these Russian youngsters everyone have been talking about for two years, I just think we are too far into the season for that now. As for trading for another D man, the jury is still out on that. I am still under the impression that Komisarek didn't heal properly earlier in the season. Hopefully he can bring his physical game back soon.

Chuck's picture
Plus, calling up guys from the farm and sitting others in the press box costs cap space, which we are preciously short on right now.

MikeMcLaren's picture
Okay, I was at the game (A TON of Habs fans in the buiding - a lot in sections that had come on bus tours, etc.) and it was great for at least two reasons: 1 - The Habs won! 2 - I was not sucker punched by drunken Flyers fans I was just about close enough to see Guy's list of shooters if the OT didn't settle the game, it went somethign like this: 1. Tom Kostopoulos 2. Glen Metropolit 3. Andrei Markov I'm really glad it didn't get to that! Schneider was such a clever pickup by Bob. Kudos Monsieur Gainey! What I really thought I was watching tonight though was TWO teams that performed well in spite of their coaching not because of it. /\\ike GO HABS GO!

Chuck's picture
A decoy list for prying eyes, right? :)

Ayan_SB's picture
You're kidding about the shootout lineup right? Please tell me you're kidding...

BienvenueSurLaPasserelle's picture
Of course he was kidding, all 3 missed breakaways throughout the game. _____________________ To You From Failing Hands We Throw The Torch, Be Yours To Hold It High.

Why Markov? Rumors have it that Halak has a wicked backhand shot.

MikeMcLaren's picture
Hey, he works in mysterious ways. Only Guy knows how to catch the lightning in a bottle that are his personnel decisions! That starting line was a beaut! /\\ike GO HABS GO!

it would be nice if we could ever hold a team to less than 20 shots /game. we lead the league in shots allowed/game. we desperately need help on D + a scorer or 2. I can't see Pac or Dags as anything but 4th line scorers. neither 1 can score. I guess we're playing them because there's nobody else. bad reason.

doug's picture
From JT's blog, February 2008, while Halak was in Hamilton. Go to her blog which she puts at the bottom of her posts and go the archives for February 2008 and see how many times she points out what we're seeing about Halak when he plays. Personally, and I know this is heresy. . . but personally there's no question who's been the better young goaltender on the Habs to date. Tom Brady was drafted low as well, and the Patriots changed plans when they saw execution on the field. The rest is copy Feb 2008 by JT on her habsloyalist blog. Halak the Slovak When Carey Price was sixteen, he was already on the radar of NHL scouts. He got into only one game for the Tri-City Americans, but he was a big kid with great positioning in the net and nice puck-handling skills. His much-vaunted unflappable demeanor was just starting to develop. By the time he was eighteen, he'd been scouted, interviewed, studied and assessed to within an inch of his life. When Jaroslav Halak was seventeen, he was toiling away for his hometown team, Bratislava, in the Slovak junior league. He played nine games and put up a nice 2.26 goals against average. That was good enough to buy him twelve starts in the senior league the following year, in which he posted a 1.66 GAA and 0.942 save percentage. Someone noticed and the Lewiston Maineiacs took a chance on a little-known Slovak goalie who was willing to move overseas and take a shot at pro hockey. His decent numbers in his one junior season attracted the eye of Canadiens' scouts, who advised the Habs to throw a 271st overall pick at him in 2003. He turned pro and immediately impressed in the ECHL, which bought him a ticket to Hamilton where he kept winning and stopping an average of 92 percent of the shots he faced. Then the injury to Cristobal Huet last season forced him into the big time. He responded by winning his first four games, behind a defence that was...shall we say...less than stellar. He inspired a flagging team and dragged it to within one point of a playoff position. He came back to training camp this season and looked great again. But something went wrong for Halak. He wasn't supposed to be that good. He came from a place where scouts didn't linger long and where a player could be very talented, yet out of the general consciousness of hockey watchers in North America. Carey Price, on the other hand, was in the public eye from the first time he laced up in midget AAA. Scouts saw enough of him to rank him very high in the first round of his draft. So, here we have two young goaltenders. One is a blue-chip prospect. A first rounder with a hockey pedigree and one very, very impressive season under his belt. The other is a guy who's never won anything special and was a throwaway pick in the last round of his draft. He fought his way up through the ranks, impressing teammates and fans along the way. The Canadiens are lucky enough to own the rights to both of them. Unfortunately for Halak though, the team has invested in Price. After picking him at number five overall, the team has to make sure he has every chance to make it. They're handling him with kid gloves, ensuring he has enough playing time and access to all the resources he needs to succeed. Halak is a bonus; a guy who was never supposed to make it anyway. The team is treating him that way now. Demoted after a very good training camp. Called up and let sit on the bench for weeks without a start. Demoted again. He's two years older than Carey Price, but he's being treated like he's already a second-class journeyman. My hope is that Carey Price is the real deal. I want him to be the franchise goalie everyone is predicting he will become. My concern is that the organization's preoccupation with Price is blinding it to the fact that there's another very young, very good goaltender in the system as well. Halak has proven himself at every level at which he's played. He deserves a chance to play in the NHL. But if the Canadiens don't take care to give him just a little bit of the attention they give Price, they risk hindering his development or losing him to another organization who will give him a shot. And what if Price *doesn't* pan out? What if he's meant to be very good, but not great? And what if Halak, not Price, is the next great Canadiens goalie but the team doesn't recognize it until it's too late? I think the organization needs to take better care of Halak, because so far, he's proven he's a winner. And the road he's had to take to get where he is now required a lot more struggle than the golden path a first round pick follows. I wonder if Carey Price had been born in Slovakia, and Jaroslav Halak in B.C., who'd be the future franchise goalie today?

Halak a Winner? Yeah Right!!! Halak has won nothing in Hamilton. It took Price to give the Bulldogs a Calder Cup!!! Halak wins a game leave Price out of it. When Price was winning games there were no insults made towards Halak... Grow up you losers....

um no offense to Mr.Price but right now without Halak we'd be sunk...two good guys hopefully when Halak needs him Pricey can step up in the same way.

Chris's picture
Sheesh. Price was anointed in Hamilton...there is no guarantee that Halak couldn't have won the Calder Cup if the roles had been reversed. We'll never know. They are both good goalies. They have different styles. One of them will ultimately get traded, because I suspect they are both a little too good to stay in Montreal together. Until then, I will cheer for both. By the way, anybody who can achieve what Halak has done in his career is a winner. Jaroslav Halak has had to fight tooth and nail for every single break in his career: "He's too small", "He can't handle the puck", "He gives up too many rebounds", etc. The kid just works his tail off, rarely if ever complains, and has by and large got the job done. I wish that Jaroslav Halak has Carey Price's technique and size. I also wish Carey Price had Jaroslav Halak's intensity and drive to succeed.

thirdstone's picture
Carey Price's technique is the result of countless hours of practice, hours that - compared to the hours given by a goalie that didn't make it - must have been incredibly dense in desire to learn, retention of lessons and effort. All of this is to say that Carey Price's skill is the direct result of his intensity and drive to succeed.

Chris's picture
My point was not that Price lacks intensity and a drive to succeed...like you say, he would never have made the NHL were it not for hard work. But I do think Price is sometimes TOO technical...he does not have the mental focus on the ice to fight through and find the puck. My biggest complaint, although some other posters here whose opinions I greatly value disagree, is that I feel he has always been somewhat inadequate in tracking the puck. When there's traffic in front of him, he just makes himself as big as possible and hopes the puck hits him. Halak can't do that...he's too small. He's GOT to find the puck. He still gets beat frequently as well, but its not for a lack of trying. Both guys made it. In Price's case, he is the prototypical goalie, the guy that every scout drools over. In Halak's case, he would have to truly work his tail off to even get a scout to look at him. I don't think its necessarily unfair to surmise that Halak may have had to work a little harder given his background and physical deficiencies.

Chuck's picture
We need to morph the two together to make one kick-*** robo-goalie. :)

Fool of Chu's picture
Reminds me of the Theodore-Vokoun situation.

Ayan_SB's picture
First of all, that was a great article by JT, she brought up many good points, but I've already wrote quite a long post, so I won't go into it. However, I will mention that Halak reminds me somewhat of Evgeni Nabokov, if not Tim Thomas. His style is somewhat unorthodox, and unorganized, but he anticipates the puck pretty well. Oh and for those who mentioned Vokoun, I saw a Panthers-Bruins game last week, where he amazingly shut out Boston. He's definitely an very impressive, and a quite underrated, goalie.

doug's picture
Very true. . . Vokoun's been the best former Habs goaltender in the league over the last decade, often under the radar for some reason among Habs fans.

NoTinFoilCups's picture
Yep and he played one period of hockey for the Habs, let in four goals and that was all folks...

The difference is Vokoun was no where near as good as Halak was when he started with the Canadiens or in their system. It's only after he's been playing for so long (and he's now a 15 year vet) that he finally learned to steal games for the usually weak teams he's put on.

double post; sorry

POSTED ON PAGE 21 OF THE BLOG. The game was 2-0 Philly at the time: Here is the prediction people: HABS ARE GOING TO WIN THIS GAME! You heard it here first! My second prediction I made last week. Habs were winning 7 in a row! I hope that I am right about this one too! Great game, blood pressure is through the roof but great game! I can't wait for tomorrow night!

He's a definite little cutie. Nothing better than getting to raise our own little Habs fans! I've got two of my own and it's a blast. ........... "To you from failing hands we throw the torch. Be yours to hold it high." I STILL BELIEVE. I WILL ALWAYS BELIEVE.

Very cool. Start them young!

Anyone about to question Bob's picking up of Schneider, didn't think so. Anyone doubting Kovy's importance to this team, they'd be an idiot. The overtime goal was all because of him recognizing that Koivu broke his stick, deking around one player and drawing another to him and then making a perfect pass to Scheider. Great comeback win, let's keep it rolling tomorrow!

Check out a very happy Schneider on tsn.ca post game video clip. Man, its great to have him. I love you BOB (in a manly way of course).

My new Habs T-shirt is now 1-0-0 when wearing it during a game and a total of 3-1-1 since I bought it. I can only conclude that this amazing 2009 turnaround is entirely due to my new T-shirt. (with a little help from M. Schneider, A. Kovalev, T. Plekanec, J. Halak and others...did I miss anyone?)

The Habs are yet to lose when I attend a home game. A record of 13-0-0 this season. It will all come down to tomorrow. I think I'm their lucky charm or something.

habs are 3-0-0 since my six year old son cole asked me to purchase a maurice richard figurine he found in a BOSTON CD STORE that I brought him to and he started looking around some of the aisles. I'm not kidding. It's like a magic find or something. It's sat on top of my television since last Saturday night.

Great comeback win from a team that a couple of weeks ago would have folded. Amazing what a confident Goalie and what Schneider has added. Olie next. To those questioning Carbo playing Kosto in the last minutes??? IMO, I believe he is trying to develop him as a shutdown forward. On the road against an offensively gifted team with a few minutes of a tie game you need to play for the point first. Kosto is not disappointing him.

well Halak saved their a.., 5 shots by Habs in second. We cant keep depending on the Goalie like this.Get a lead and try and sit on it.we wont go far with this style of play.Without Halack what would the score have been?

PrimeTime's picture
you didnt watch the game, right?

Fool of Chu's picture
I don't agree at all. Both goalies were great, apart from a few minutes by Niittymaki, where he lost his focus and the Habs scored. But he made up for that with some spectacular saves lateron. The penalties were the problem in the second period, not that they were "sitting on their lead". Some stupid ones, some questionable calls, business as usual. The only complaint I have about the second period was, that when they came out unharmed by the first lengthy 3-on-5 their game did not reflect this momentum. The game just went on as if nothing had happened. And then came that mistake, albeit against a great PK team, on the PP. They did not just sit and wait. Halak was great, but he wasn't even a star. The team played well, really well. If you take the Penalty numbers into your shot equation, you will see that it dominated the Flyers five-on-five. And, well, they really looked good five-on-five.

Hard to score from the box, y'know?

PrimeTime's picture
How many shots did Philly get??? My guess would be they would have scored on all.

RiverviewCanadien's picture
I won't complain, it's been a while since I have seen a good string of great goaltending. I am enjoying Jaro's play very much :P

Why not trade Breezer and play Dandy on D? Breezer was great in the first half but he's really tailed off since then. At this stage, I would easily play O'Byrne over him. That being said, a win is a win is a win :hellsyeah: _____________________________________________________ Mad Pax...Beyond Powerdome

I'd keep Komi even with his recent struggles 'cause we don't have a lot of big physical Dmen. But only at a reasonable price...he has no offensive upside so he really should not make 4M/yr. I think 3M/yr might be a bit generous with his play of late. If a reasonable trade could be pulled off I'd definitely like to get Kubina and maybe Antropov. Something is up with our D in general...even Hamrlik is not his usual steady self. Please put Dandenault on D next game. Thank goodness Markov seems to be back to form and Schneider with his immediate positive impact.

Komo will be resigned, for 3.5 to 4 million depending on how his season ends and how he plays in the playoffs. Geez, a player starts struggling and everyone wants him gone : Price, Komi, Higgins, years ago it was Saku, Ryder.... Jesus Christ.Patience.

PrimeTime's picture
Schneider was the right plug. Nice move Bob! Next - Olie Jokinen for Higgins, Chipchura and a draft pick and we're set to go. Price gets more time to break in his new pads. Halak is back!

Fool of Chu's picture
Jokinen is himself slumping badly right now, I would not consider his aquisition helpful. Plus - I think dealing Higgins could be like dealing LeClair. Comes from my gut, don't know. I still feel that a forty-goal-scorer is in his bones, sleeping and waiting to be summoned.

Team found a way to win a sloppy game. Metro got more comfy as the game went on too. (I thought it was weird to see him playing tonight without even getting a practice in but whatever. Worked out fine as the game went on).

Ayan_SB's picture
Can you imagine this team with Tanguay back, and some good, consistent D?

J.T.'s picture
Notes on the third: -Habs' recipe for team-building: take a bushel of minute centres, add a pinch of green goalie and a dash of ancient D and surprisingly, win some games. -This conversation was recently held in Carbo's office: "Yeah, TK, what can I do for you?" (TK clears throat) "Carbo, you're my...real...dad." Which would explain why Kostopoulos is consistently out in the last minute of a close game. -Plekanec is hotter than Main Street in Pompei. He just believes he can do it, and it's amazing what a difference confidence can make in a player. -Slovakian Slick has stolen The Franchise's job. I wonder how long it'll take management to give credit where it's due? -Andrei Kostitsyn must be freed from Kovalev's line. He just doesn't work there, and it's hurting the team. -Stewart and Pacioretty did a great job on the boards tonight. They're (hopefully) the new breed of Hab they're growing down on the farm. -Chris Higgins made one fantastic play on the PK that made me remember that he's a great defensive player with enough offensive zip to pot 25 goals a year. If the team's third line was Higgins/Lapierre/Latendresse, he'd find his niche. -Mathieu Schneider's a lifesaver on the PP. At this point, we have to agree it's not a fluke. -Well, that was two points I didn't think the Habs would own tonight. Good job on fighting back, and thankfully Nittymaki gave up a couple of softies. Praise the Lord and pass the ammunition. -Habs still need D. Desperately. http://habsloyalist.blogspot.com

Vid's picture
Hmm perhaps A.Kosts should play with Koivu and Tangs (when he comes back)?. Pleks, Kovy and who? Higgs or either Pax/D'Ags? I like the idea of Kubina to accompany Hamrlik but don't know what it would take to get him and not sure we'd be able to fit him under the cap with his 5M/yr.

RiverviewCanadien's picture
Great post. Good summary. AK46 should go, Pacioretty should take his spot, just swap the players. Patches fits in there. Kovalev, great job tonight though, tough on the boards , great passing , good hands (couple of "lazy moments" LOL). First star is all I can say :)

RiverviewCanadien's picture
Oh yeah did I forget someone, oh yeah the same guy that is always forgotten...HALAK IS BACK!!!

If there is one player on the Montreal Canadiens, who by his performance on the ice in games that have mattered, deserves far better treatment from this organization than he has received, it is Jaroslav Halak. This man IS the number one goaltender and no one should even question it at the point. This man will get you to the post-season Carbo. Please don't *** it up like the ending of the 06-07 season!

check out j.t.'s blog from about two years ago. she was a fan of his during his initial run when he almost took us to the playoffs before huet lost last game of the season. on another note, if anyone hasn't read j.t.'s other wing posting yet you must. it's not just good habs writing, it's incredibly clever writing period. i sent it to some friends who don't like hockey just because of the snowsuit references and the regular clever witticisms. j.t., i seriously think you should move on to a full time gig at this like bill simmons did when he went from a boston sports guy blog to become the espn guy (and lost some of his cleverness along the way, but that's another matter). you'd be awesome on tsn.ca. . . you're not only extremely funny and very insightful, you're a far better writer than 99% of sports journalists. you're as witty as boone without the mood swings.

J.T. - do you think a Komisarek / Bouwmeester trade might happen?
Boone, any thoughts?

doug's picture
i don't think florida would do it. why would they believe they could keep komisarek any more than bouwmeester? they'd be trading a rental for a far worse rental. i'm beginning to wonder if komisarek is ever going to be any good again. it's astounding.

J.T.'s picture

RiverviewCanadien's picture
Exactly, who would do something stupid like that. Komi, yeah I am thinking some package deal....to make it a "little" more appealing.

After 62 games in 2009: 33-22-7 (73 points) After 62 games in 2008: 33-20-9 (75 points) Just one win off the pace of last season's Eastern Conference points leader. I don't feel too badly about this team. Schneider and Halak have righted the ship. 25 IN 100

pher pher's picture
I think Gainey should trade Komisarek for Bouwmeester - straight up.

Ayan_SB's picture
We'd definitely have to add some more players or prospects. Bouwmeester has much more of an upside, especially now.

Fool of Chu's picture
That wouldn't work with Komo on top of his game, let alone his play right now ;-(((

pher pher's picture
i think you may be right! :(

wonder who's worse, Komisarek or Breezer? both sh't! Gainey should trade Komisarek now and get a draft picvk for him, because we all know he won't be resigned. why should he? he's horrible! Anyways habs win despite Breezeshit and Komi's giveaways. why are the habs outshot every single game? Why can't the Dmen stand at the blueline instead of backing in on their goalie ALWAYS! drives me nuts.

You're the dude who said we'd lose the game 8-0 right? If not sorry, people like you all sound the same. Otherwise, bla bla bla bla bla, whine whine.
