4-1 ... but a big injury

posted by Mike Boone at 10h53 EST on Oct 18

Guy Carbonneau reported Andrei Kostistyn was feeling a bit better after the game.

"He's still dizzy," Carbo said. "We'll know more when we do some tests tomorrow."

The coach would not classify the Kurt Sauer check that knocked Kostitsyn out as a dirty hit, but hastened to add "the league is trying to eliminate head shots, and that was a head shot."

Audio:

• Saku Koivu

• Guillaume Latendresse (starting with a Brian Wilde speech)

• Alex Tanguay in English  and in French

• Two hits of BGL, I and II

• Carbo in French

A W, but costly

Dandy skates miles and miles

3P 2:20:

Not pretty: Winnik wheeling around Komo

3P 3:30:

Great minutes-eating shift by fourth line

3P Break:

They're scraping the brown ice in the corner from where Keith Yandle thought BGL would check him

3P 7:39:

Gui! lays out Jovanoski and gets a shot right on. What a night for him

3P 8:00:

On the big screen, Kovy's spinerama from three angles

One more goal and this gets hairy

3P 10:00:

Some sloppyu clearing and it looked like it went in off Price's stick

3P 10:30:

To their credit, Phoenix is still skating, second game in two nights

3P 12:20:

First shift for the fourth line

3P 13:40:

3P 15:30:

Lang, Lapierre and Tom the Bomb

What Carbo said: "Let's not do anything stupid." We'll see

3P 00:00:

Let's hope the third period doesn't last an hour ... and that the Canadiens get out of this with no more injuries.

Know what?:

That wasn't a dirty hit. I've seen worse, like AK46 breaking McCabe's hand last season

Between periods:

Mike Komisarek: five hits, four blocked shots ... BGL, nine minutes in the box, and counting ... Gui!: an assist, two shots, four hits – and he's on that line to stay ...

Fearless prediction:

Before this barn dance is over, Sergei Kostitsyn will take a major for spearing.

00:07:

That's why they got. BGL demolishes Fedoruk

2P 00:00:

No mistake!

Robert Lang makes it 4-0

2P 1:20:

First wave of the PP is awful. But then Gui! sets up Pleks for a great chance. Then BGL hustles Phoenix into another penalty

2P 4:06:

It's official: AK46 won't be back tonight

2P 5:55:

Sergei is on the bench looking homicidal

2P Break:

The Koivu line: SPECTACULAR! And in the absence of AK46, it will have to be.

2P 00:00:

That'll shut them up

Tanguay from Koivu

3-0

2P 7:22:

This getting totally Saturday night in the Q here

2P 7:37:

What the f ....? Kovalev gets sticked. No call. OK, inadvertent. But the game is geting out of control.

2P 8:00:

Solid puck possession shift for BGL. Then Tom the Bomb runs his record to 0-124-2 against Sauer.

2P 9:30:

From the way AK46, Dr. Pat Hickey is diagnosing concussion, maybe broken ribs. Sergei to the Pleks line?

2P Break:

Gui! is playing a career game here.

2P 10:08:

Terrible PP. Canadiens look freaked out by the hit on AK46

2P 11:52:

I'm wrong. Fedoruk got four minutes

2P Break:

BGL goes after Sauer on a delayed penalty to Phoenix. It pleases the crowd and negates the PP

1P 13:40:

Markov makes a sensational play on the PK

1P 16:01:

SK74 takes an anger penalty.

1P 16:16:

Definitely a forearm shiver, into the boards. AK46 looks out of it.

2P 16:16:

Uh-oh! AK46 knocked by Kurt Sauer. No call. Stretcher.

2P 17:00:

Gui! had an open-net on a 3-on-2 feed from Koivu. That would have been a killer and got the crowd back in it.

2P 17:45:

No Phoenix penalties. And they're starting to win the physical battles

2P 19:31:

Gretzky told his guys "we took their best shot and we're right in it." Or words to that effect.

2P 00:00:

I'm just loving Gui! tonight. That line is by far the Canadiens' best

Between periods:

Tomas Plekanec 1-6 on faceoffs, Robert Lang, who's struggled lately, 1-4 ... BGL played 3:37, on track for double-digit minutes ... Canadiens have eight giveaways, Phoenix two ... No matter what the score, Price stays focused

1P 00:00:

Doan dumps Markov at the buzzer, and BGL has a word with his former teammate

1P 1:16:

Canadiens have 14 shots, matching their one-period high this season. But Phoenix has 10

1P 2:07:

Phoenix coming on a bit.

1P 3:15:

Not a great shift for the fourth line against Doan

1P Break:

A few words of one syllable between Jokinen and Gorges, with BGL not far away

1P 6:00:

AK46 put a goal on Lang's stick

1P 7:15:

From the Canadiens blueline in, Phoenix is a decent team. The rest of the ice? Not so good.

1P 8:42:

That line is on fire!

Koivu

2-0

1P 8:51:

I'll be happy when Bouillon is back with Gorges

1P Break:

A good PK thanks to the best penalty-killer on the team, Carey Price

1P 11:50:

What a save on Doan!

1P 12:33:

Delayed penalty on Lang and the kid Boedker had Price down and out, but the angle was too severe

1P Break:

Best start of the season. Shots are 11-4. Could be 5-0

1P 13:47:

Oh yeah!

Gui! stays on that line.

Tanguay from the Captain

1-0

1P 14:42:

At this pace, Bryzgalov will face 92 shots

1P16:20:

Two crowd-pleasers: a Carey Price clear and a Gui! set-up of Tanguay. Canadiens have six shots, Phoenix two

1P 17:59:

Lang on a great head-man from Sergei had Tom the Bomb open but shot right at Bryz instead

1P 18:00:

Roman Hamrlik jumps up again. That's something new this season

1P 19:00:

Love the way that guy passes. Tanguay sets up Komisarek, coming late

No anthem booing!:

Yay!

Brian McGrattan:

Not dressed. Maybe a quiet night for BGL

Video features:

Alex Kovalev remembers Maurice Richard scoring 50 in 1945 and Patrice Brisebois recalls Larry Robinson becoming the first defenceman to play 200 playoff games with one team

1P 20:00:

This should be entertaining. Phoenix got spanked in Ottawa last night. They'll bring their A-game, such as it is.

Ilya Bryzgalov:

Shout-out:

To the Habs Inside/Out posters at the game tonight. It's the pre-Summit Summit, with J.T. and David in from the Rock, Sue Meade and Mike from the Vineyard, Jay from PA, Yeats from the Apple and many more. Have fun, guys, but be careful: the HI/O bail fund is depleted after my birthday bash

Hockey Night in Canada:

Is here tonight. The web site has a good scouting report on Phoenix.

Trade rumour:

RDS reports the Canadiens and Minnesota Wild are talking about Marian Gaborik. Headed west in the rumoured deal: Christopher Higgins, Jaroslav Halak and a first-round draft choice. I guess no one at the TV network checked out salary-cap figures on this one, eh? Gaborik, who'll be a UFA next summer (thus the trade speculation) is making $6.3 million. And he turned down Minnesota's offer of a 10-year, $80-million contract.

Lineup unchanged:

Christopher Higgins and Francis Bouillon still not back from injuries. Steve Bégin a healthy scratch in favour of BGL.

Rave reviews:

Phoenix rookies Kyle Turris and Kevin Porter say nice things about their college teammates, Ryan McDonagh and Max Pacioretty, respectively

I pray that Andrei is okay. Not for the team, but for the guy himself. The fact that his wife and child - who don't speak english, or very little - are here, and their husband and father is injured as so is truly devastating to me. I wish for a speedy recovery for him. Mesa Dentists

After watching the hit several times.. it reminded me a lot of when Bell plowed into Alfie last year. Especially the arguements behind whether it was dirty or not. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b59LxkvpW8Y&eurl=http://lj-toys.com/?jour... GO HABS!

From the perspective of someone who is a budding expert in head trauma (If you want to read my last article on the subject in the Canadian Medical Association Journal (CMAJ) visit: http://www.cmaj.ca/cgi/content/full/178/9/1163 I think AK will be okay. He was definitely concussed from the looks of things, because he was unconscious, albeit briefly. But he had a helmet on and the stretcher wasn't needed. The fact that he was able to get up and walk off on his own is a good sign. Yes there were people there supporting him, but you can see at the end he is clearly walking by himself. Obviously without seeing any tests results this is entirely speculation, but I don't THINK this is a season-ending injury. Problem is mild brain injury is an insidious one, and everyone responds differently. It's not the sort of thing where a clean MRI means you're good to go. My supervisor for my doctorate is the head of trauma and neurosurgery intensive care at a major hospital here in toronto, and I will show him the footage and get his take as well. As for the hit, it was definitely dirty. It was a neck shot.

TOEmastro's picture
doesn't an MRI and CT scan usually miss concussions? Secondary trauma could still be a nasty issue even with a clean runthrough with the tests

linp's picture
I think the damage was done when AK's head hit the board and then hit the ice.

I have never seen such the Habs so deadicated, more passionate in team effort and spirit since the team that won the last Cup... Koivu shows his leadership and words of wisdom to young K. while Big Georges and posse beat the living snots out of those Phoenix's jackels... The Habs really prove to all teams and the fans like us their greatest chemistry! Really shows! ---------- Bring L'Oreille's goal song back again, godd*mnit!

What a nasty hit, what a frightening situation. There should be a penalty on that. BTW, I found a CBC version of all that on YouTube. Cole and some other guy I don't wanna know spent 2 freaking minutes on telling everybody that it was a "clean hit, no doubt about that". And for all the boo-birds in Centre Bell, here's a handy list of boo-who of every NHL team. Let's start the party. ANAHEIM: SELANNE. We thought for a while he was going to sign here and he did not! ATLANTA: HAINSEY. We traded him away and he dares to still hang around in the NHL? What a classless act! BOSTON: RYDER. How can a guy try to revive his career after we made it all clear that he was done? Trying to make us look like morons or what? BUFFALO: RIVET. A true Canadien retires after being traded away. And accepting a "C" on other team is a disgrace. He should have put a little "H" inside it! CALGARY: IGINLA. Hey, he made some guys say that Theo did not deserve Hart in 2002. CAROLINA: SAMSONOV. Same as Ryder. Made us look like morons. CHICAGO: KANE. If it was ME drafted 1st overall by Chicago, I would pull a lindros and say I won't play anywhere else than in Montreal. He did not, case closed. COLORADO: RAYCROFT/BUDAJ. Come on, most of boo-birds don't even know there is no Theo anymore. COLUMBUS: NASH. He can't turn this team around by himself. I would. DALLAS: RIBEIRO. Buahahaha, thought we forgot you? Wrong. DETROIT: HOSSA. If we think you may fit here and you don't sign - blame yourself. EDMONTON: ROLOSON. For screwing Canada's chance for Stanley in 2006. FLORIDA: VOKOUN. Remember his only start in our jersey? LOS ANGELES: ALL OF THEM. They stole Gretzky! MINNESOTA: GABORIK. He won't sign with us in July. So boo him just in case. MONTREAL: In the end, you'll boo every last one of them. NASHVILLE: They had a crook owner. They should all be ashamed. NEW JERSEY: BRODEUR. A Montreal-native should be playing in Montreal. If he can't, he should retire, period. NY ISLANDERS: BOSSY. Yeah, he's still around. Four Cups? Tried to match OUR record? Now, hear this! NY RANGERS: VOROS. He scores a lot lately and he shouldn't. OTTAWA: SMITH. He was with Philadelphia last year, that's enough. PHILADELPHIA: BIRON. When a goalie is privileged to take shots from the Montreal Canadiens, he should be polite enough to let them in. PHOENIX: DOAN. Everybody else boos, so you should too. PITTSBURGH: CROSBY. Used to love Canadiens, doesn't anymore - you know the story. ST.LOUIS: JOHNSON. Injured himself on a golf tournament. How unprofessional! SAN JOSE: CHEECHOO. He scored a pretty one against us last year, remember? TAMPA BAY: All of them. Because they're pathetic. TORONTO: Kidding, right? A true "fan" starts to boo 24 hours before the game, stops only for inhaling and finishes a week after. VANCOUVER: LUONGO. A goalie named captain? What a joke! WASHINGTON: OVECHKIN. Because he's flashy, he scores goals and we would REALLY to have him on our side. If you come here, we'll stop booing, promise. So, with that handy list every moron in the stands can boo, shout, spit and throw things at the respective targets. I know it's sometimes tough, you don't see all the goals because you're too busy. But being the classiest fans in sports requires sacrifice. ___________________________________________________________ It was love at first sight. The first time Koivu saw Tanguay he fell madly in love with him.

Please give us an update on AK's condition.

Ok, so I'm drunk and I just got home and watched highlights(I live in Vancouver). I heard about the hit and I'm f*kin choked. It was clearly a headshot but I'm glad we have BGL who took out Fedourok like I take out my garbage. Too bad Sauder chickened out from fight BGL but decided to fight Kostopolous who's SMALLER THAN HIM. What a b!tch. I just hope AK is ok and did CBC seriously make fun of the fact Koivu was consoling Sergei? Imagine if that was Toronto????

Steiner's picture
Okay boys and girls. I may have gone out after the game and have had my fair share of alcohol while trying to reel in a coworker, but I was at the game, and it's left me with a lot to say. I'm not one to normally write something here thats more than three or four lines, but I was sitting in my seat in section 109, and saw/heard things that I needed to vent. Correct me if I'm wrong, but booing Shane Doan? It absolutely made me furious. I dont think we play Pheonix enough to boo him for some bad call or dirty play. It could only make me think of people booing him because of the controversy that was surrounding him during the worlds (i think it was the worlds) and he was captain - and people claimed he had made an anti-french comment. It absolutely disgusted me to hear people boo him (or were they because he is the "star" of the team - as we so often find ourselves doing...)... I just hope it wasnt, because it doesnt say much about the people in the arena. He was cleared of all "charges"... and life should go on accordingly. I'm not one to be "dont boo people" but to me, it just seemed completely unmerited. I felt for the guy, and I also felt for Carey Price having to listen to people boo his cousin. It just didnt seem right. Secondly, the Andrei hit. I dont know if it was dirty or not... but my seats are right in front of where it happened. I shed a tear, because it was a tragic moment. My father, who was with me at the game is a brain doctor, and he almost got up to go over to the bench... when Andrei was finally "skating" over to the bench he said "there is no way this guys brain and feet are connected right now." The poor guy could barely move, it was truly a frightening moment - one that didnt involve thinking of retirbution from Laraque, or one that made me wonder what this meant for his line. I truly wondered, would Andrei be okay. Would the man be okay. Sergei watched from afar, but came over quickly when he realized his brother was not okay. There was a moment, where Sergei had his hand on Andrei's back - talking to him. It was such a beautiful moment to see two brothers like that. But Sergei, you could tell was not the same after that. His head wasnt in it - his head was with his brother. I pray that Andrei is okay. Not for the team, but for the guy himself. The fact that his wife and child - who don't speak english, or very little - are here, and their husband and father is injured as so is truly devastating to me. I wish for a speedy recovery for him. I'm not sure what else to really say, I just needed to get that out.

I hear what you are saying - I was at the game last night as well, but up in the 300's. When our AK46 was hit, from our perspective, it looked absolutely frightening. I jumped up in horror as he laid there totally motionless. So many thoughts were running through my head. Initially I thought of what happened to Zednik last year. Despite the fact that there was no blood, it just felt like one of those horrible moments where you don't know what the result is going to be. I couldn't help but get choked up. & I really felt for Sergei. Imagine getting a phone call at work & being told your brother was in an accident & is in the hospital - anyone of us would leave work. Sergei, he still had to work. It must have been a long night for him. I'm so glad AK is doing better today. God bless him. GO HABS!

Great post Steiner! The Doan boos were definitely unwarranted. The Canadiens are so popular now that even the louts are getting tickets! Secondly, I hope AK is ok. I'm not an expert in head trauma so I can only send my hope and prayers to him and his family, his brother, and in the big picture the whole Canadiens family who saw one of their favorite sons go down tonight. I have to say that if that's the brand of hockey they play in Phoenix...phooooey!!!

Well said, when you see AK46 go down its like one of our own sons goes down.... very well said, i hope its not serious

i think tonight proves that fighting is something that cannot go out of the game, you need it to protect your players from shots like the one Sauer gave Kosty Sr, or until the time when these borderline hits are punished severely, and players start looking out for each others safety. if not there has to be repercussions.

Xtrahabsfan's picture
Tonite was another great game by the Habs but if we're to call up a Bulldog I hope it's Stewart.More physical presence to back the team,Laroque can't do it all and the last couple of years other teams used bully tactics and intimidation to take the wind out of the Habs sails and the Team has to cleary show these teams it's now a very ,very bad idea.Just like the good old days,GO HABS GO...

I can't get over how smart Big George is. It is actually mind blowing to hear such intelligent talk coming from a "fighter". He understands his role, doesn't want to hurt the team, and respects his opponents no matter what the situation. Big George is not around to create a raucous. He understands his role completely with the team and he knows his role. Unlike most fighters, he is the police, not the criminal.

Gretzky and his Yotes just made enemies of the entire city, let alone Les Boys. They weren't very good anyway (refering to the Yotes). Burst here and there, but generally I was unimpressed with this so-called youth filled up-and-coming team. The boos for them were extra loud when they came out for the 3rd. I even booed them. BOO! My mom took my brother's ticket tonight (he's studying). This was her first live hockey game. She doesn't know anything about hockey, but was generally excited for the game and enjoyed herself. Wasn't very sure about the fighting but seeing the crowd's reaction, she just accepted it. She later thought the Yotes were rather crappy, overall sloppy, and semi-dirty. ****** the notwithstanding clause - The general consensus of an ordinary Habs fan in Montreal

I can't believe what I am hearing on CBC. These dolts are saying that Brodeur should be the starting goalie at the olympics just because he earned it over the years. So, nevermind if a guy like Price is playing better, or some other goalie is reaping it. That's the kind of logic that saw us lose 2 our of 3 last olympics.

G-Man's picture
2010 is a looong way away. CBC had nothing to say newswise, so why not speculate and get tongues wagging about the Olympics in Vancouver. Gilbert 2008/09 is the season of the Habs

Xvache's picture
I was just quietly reading comments like I normally do, then I saw THIS and had to respond. Brodeur was almost an MVP candidate last year and he probably will be again this year. He "should" be past his prime but he is not showing it at all. Brodeur is no doubt, hands down, the best goalie in the league and, on top of that, he's a huge leader in the room. I know we like Price and his super-cool demeanor, but let's keep things in perspective. Price is going to be a huge star and top dog one day but right now, Brodeur is the man.

Habsrule1's picture
The key to your post is "right now". Brodeur is arguably the best at the moment, but if I'm looking at building a team 2 years down the road, while Brodeur would be right there, I'd also look very closely at Luongo & Price. From watching Price, I have a feeling he may prove to be the man Canada needs in goal in 2010...perhaps behind Luongo. It's still to early to predict, but Brodeur is not in his prime, and will be about 36(?) in 2010. I'd stay away from handing the job to Brodeur just yet. Andrei needs to keep his head up and quit admiring his drop passes. That being said, Sauer hit him in the head and it should have been a penalty. Laraque and the habs handled it the right way.

Loved the cheers of GUI! GUI! GUI! at the end there as he was tying up the puck in the Phoenix zone with about 30 seconds left. It's been a while since the folks in the Bell Cenre broke out in that chant. Wow is he looking good! For anyone interested, there is an awesome hockey card show at Centre Pierre Charbonneau in Montreal Oct 24, 25, 26 (the weekend of the HIO summit). I have no affiliation with it, but I'll be there, as will Carey Price, Andrei & Sergei Kostitsyn and more!

Shiloh's picture
Gui is absolutely not looking good. He's still tremendously slow and his points are as a result of playing on a line with Koivu and Tanguay. My grandmother could score points on that line - and she's been dead 25 years. Gui very frequently loses the puck or misses a great set-up. He is still the worst hockey player in history who never had to play a day in the minors.

showey47's picture
Aren't you the same person who thought we should of kept huet as our #1 goalie? Enough said. You obviously haven't watched a minute of hockey this year, and if you did you know less about hockey then the clowns at cbc. The guy has 6 points in 5 games and is a +5 and is tied for second on the team with points, what more to do you want from a 21 years old who is only going to get better.

Chris's picture
Oh for crying out loud....unless that somebody is Mario Lemieux, simply being on somebody's line does not add points to your season totals. Ask the Penguins how that's working out for Crosby's and Malkin's wingers. You still need a bit of offensive awareness to play with extremely talented puck-movers like Koivu and Tanguay. EVERYBODY here grants that Latendresse should not have made the jump directly to the NHL. But as others have pointed out, Latendresse had nothing to do with the decision. Montreal did not have a good team that year, and were working a number of younger forwards into more important roles: Higgins, Perezhogin, Plekanec, Latendresse, Lapierre and A. Kostitsyn were all in their first or second seasons with the Habs in 2006-07. Can we please judge Latendresse solely on his play this season instead of decisions made by management 2 years ago? He's contributed to the Koivu-Tanguay-Latendresse line being Montreal's best offensive line so far in the early part of the season. I fully expect Plekanec-Kovalev-Kostitsyn to end up leading the team's offence by year's end, but its nice to see Koivu's line clicking now and helping the team put points up on the board...those points count just as much as the ones the team puts up in March and April, and ensuring a good playoff seeding will be important for this team.

Habsrule1's picture
What game were you watching? I must have made a half dozen comments to my wife about how amazing Latendresse looked. His hands are excellent, and he made some nice moves and passes. I agree he doesn't quite have the finish yet, but he's young and only recently has been given a real chance on an offensive line. Whoever is slamming Gui now is just doing so for their own fun at this point. He looks great out there. routine? I'd hate to see something out of the ordinary!

By routine, I meant that there was no doubt in my mind that Montreal was winning that game. Too bad about AK46, of course, hopefully he will be back soon. BTW, Nick Kypreos picked Phoenix to win at Hockeycentral. What a joke!

My brother and I had press passes last year at the Air Canada Centre to see the Habs. We were clearly the only non-press there and 98% of the press and former players treated us like crap. Kypreos, on the other hand, was just about the nicest young man you could meet.

Gr8stFranchizEvr's picture
high points from the game: -Price very sharp when he needed to be. His weight loss has made him a heavyweight between the pipes. -Koivu line was incredible - all 3 of them. Lats really finding his place on that trio. -Hamrlik had a solid night overall -the heart displayed by many players after the "hit". Kostop., SK, BGL, and even AK waiving the stretcher. These unfortunate incidents can bring out the best in players and build stronger team chemistry. Low points: -o'Byrne sleeping in front of Price on the shutout killer -the obvious AK hit -some questionable and biased officiating, espec. after the injury -AK, from the start of the game, was off his game and it affected his line's effectiveness. He just wasn't himself, and the head down play just topped off a bad night for him (no pun intended) -Komi not hitting like usual -Gorges played Okay, but got pushed around a lot in his own end

Yeah, that looks pretty painful and at the end of the day, spending half a blog on who's fault it was seems so petty after what happened to that young Russian Ranger's prospect this week. We get so caught up in this thing called hockey, we forget that these guys are actually people with families. Godspeed AK.

occular ecchymosis is sometimes a sign of a skull fracture if it appears right away. the AT's walked him off so it's probably not that. knock on wood

Big Bird's picture
Here's hoping Moey. I'm just worried given his past medical history with epileptic seizures. That's a big reason why other teams passed on him when he was drafted and we were lucky to get him.

Moey's picture
I know what you mean, every time Saku misses a practice, I get worried. I'm always afraid because of his medical history. Poor little bro SK, if you think about it, they barely speak English in a new country, these guys really need and depend on each other. Thank God Kovy is there for them.

Number31's picture
Actually, Sergei speaks English just fine. (More than his brother). But nothing is worse than seeing someone take out your bro like that... Right after a few cool Kovy-like moves too. He was just warming up...

Ali's picture
he landed on his face when he hit the ice..

It was touching to see Sergei being all rattled up about his brother. Good clip on CBC showing Koivu talking to Sergei on the bench. Man, I'd be worried sick if my brother was hit like that.

Moey's picture
I only saw one replay, but you're right. Hooves crossed, here's hoping.

nice blog post. i was thinking along the same lines regarding your reference to "The Game". the talent on this team might just be good enough to play in those brilliant spurts. now they need the killer instinct and winning attitude and they are set. looks like they are on the right track, especially with the winners they have behind the bench.

Anybody catch what Laraque was saying on Infosports after the game? Nice comments by Saku, classy leader.

He pretty much said - and I'm paraphrasing somewhat and translating - that he wouldn't have been the one to go with Sauer since he's not a "heavyweight" and if he had gone after him he'd probably get 10 games. It's not like the good old days when you could simply retaliate without consequence. I'm a marked man and despite it be frustrating you have to be careful how you address such a situation.

Thanks!

Guess what.....Boston beat Ottawa!

-I hope A.Kost. is alright. It looked like he was concussed. -we played very well with the lead. -Lats is a new man. Holy shomly! -Finally Koivu has line mates who are interested in playing like a trio. -Komisarek and Markov are a beautiful force. -The Priceberg is amazing. -Laraque lopoked a lot better tonight. Welcome George. -Benoit Brunet is the weakest part of the RDS crew. The guy with the hair, in between periods, is good. -My prediction.... Welcome to the National Hockey League Max Pacioretty.

Chris's picture
Nope...Higgins is ready to come back, so he'll be slotting into Kostitsyn's spot in the lineup, although some lineup shuffling will be occurring. I'm betting that they are not bringing Pacioretty up unless they have to.

great opp for pacman. . if u open too much ur mind ur brain will fall out.

looked to me like he was out before he hit the ice. Kinda reminded me of the Kevin Stevens injury years ago

twocents's picture
I don't remember the Stevens injury but, I agree he appeared to lose consciousness before hitting the ice.

it was ugly, he got knocked out and landed on his face. I believe the doctor that operated on him compared it to dropping a plate on the ground and having the plate break into many pieces. He was never the same after.

The Teacher's picture
yeah, in that case the visor got him on the nose and knocked him out, he faceplanted nose first into the ice. Was not a pretty site indeed. And he was NEVER the same player My suggested overtime format and other sports talk

Chuck's picture
I was thinking the same thing earlier, twocents. I'd bet that if you check Gainey's phone records, you'll find a call placed to the 905 area code sometime tonight. __________________________________

the guy with the hair.... really, what's with that hair?! looks plastic

Btw... why is Dandenault in the lineup again?

Timo is a non stop Dandy basher yet never can show cause. Dandy is very solid and protect BGL's lack of rhythm and speed as he missed all of camp. He also babysits Laps reckless style. He is the glue on that line.

I suggest we return the glue then cuz it doesn't seem to be working.

Big Bird's picture
You have to show-case a player if you want to deal him. And in fairness to Dandenault he has played well so far this year. ;-)

twocents's picture
Timo, I thought he played his game well tonight.

If his game was to be invisible, he did a marvelous job ;)

And again Timo is a non stop Dandy basher yet never can show cause. Dandy is very solid and protect BGL's lack of rhythm and speed as he missed all of camp. He also babysits Laps reckless style. He is the glue on that line. The invisible man had 2 shots TTB 1 shot Pleks 1 shot BGL 0 shot SK 0 shots What more does a guy have to do? Why are u wearing a raincoat?

twocents's picture
Nice one!

The Sabres have been beaten in shootout! Same points as Habs...no more lead...

Kristopher7's picture
woot! was scared they'd still be ahead by 1 pt after tonight.

Kristopher7's picture
Greta game, especially for Koivu's line. Kovalev's magic spinerama was nice... really too bad what happened to AK46 :( I hope it's nothing too serious... you really saw the rage and passion in AK74's eyes after his bro got hurt :(

TOEmastro's picture
close enough

THis is a game where Begin should have played. BGL will take care of the goons and the jerkoffs like Sauer would never fight Laraque anyway... Begin is the guy that would look for players with their heads down and THAT's what was missing from this game. Headhunting after Phoenix "stars" was in order and it takes somebody like Begin (bless his heart) to do that. ANyway... I so hope AK46 is ok and will be back soon. Don Cherry is a big douche btw.

Big Bird's picture
I was thinking the same thing my friend. They draw a knife. We pull a gun.

Gormdog's picture
Agreed... But... I can't help but like his optimism when it came to Andrei K's injury...

Moey's picture
One thing for sure, you don't want to split up the K brothers, they are a bonded pair, love Captain K, he's brilliant.
