After struggling through most of November, the Canadiens have rattled off three straight wins, all at home, including Thursday night’s 6-2 win over the New York Rangers. The day was also highlighted by the inauguration of Centennial Plaza, where the team has honours its legends and given fans a chance to be a part of it through the purchase of bricks that make up the plaza. The Habs play four more games at home on their current homestand and will look to keep on rolling against the Devils, Flames, Lightning and the Capitals.

PuckCasters Pat Hickey, Mike Boone and Kevin Mio look at the start of the team's homestand and review the play of Matt D'Agostin, give their thoughs on Centennial Plaza, the rumours that the team is for sale and Guy Carbonneau's frustrations with the media.

As far as I can tell, S. Kost CAN be sent down to Hamilton without clearing waivers as he only has 75 NHL games under his belt, bellow the 80 limit for a 21 year old in an entry level contract.

I believe you are correct that Sergei Kostitsyn can be sent down to the minors without clearing waivers. However, I believe the Habs have a bigger window than 80 games. From what I read in the CBA, section 13.4 shows a table that describes the Exempt Players list conditions. Since Sergei was 20 years old when he signed his first NHL contract, the Habs have 3 years from the signing of that contract, or 160 NHL games played, that they can send him to the minors and be exempty from regular and re-entry waiver claims. However, Guillaume Latendresse would not be exempt, since he signed his first NHL contract at age 19, which would have given him 4 years of ineligibility. Latendresse has played more than 160 NHL games now (173) so he would be subject to waiver claims if he were sent to the minors.

Another interesting tidbit I found trolling the past drafts; we could have picked Milan Lucic instead of Ben Maxwell...

I haven't heard Lats crying to reporters but I was looking into past drafts and I thought it was kind of ironic that Lats, SK and D'AAgostini were all drafted the same year, 2005; 45 2 Guillaume Latendresse R Drummondville Voltigeurs 190 6 Matt D'Agostini R Guelph Storm 200 7 Sergei Kostitsyn R Gomel (Belarus) Rgds, LGB

I just voted 15 times. c'mon guys go vote!

good job make a joke out of the All Star game -- I hope they all make it and the West blows them out -- it would be great to say the Habs blew it!!

Eyes On The Prize, signing off....sorta http://wwweyesontheprize.blogspot.com/2008/12/eyes-on-prizesigning-off-s... Hi everyone. I haven't had much chance of late to post here as I have been busy readying the new site. After weeks of work, it was launched today at around noon. All the familiar Eyes On The Prize archives are in place. I was really pleased that Sports Blog Nation accepted to bring them over for readers with an eye on continuity. The new digs are a little different looking and I have done my best to give it a familiar theme. What is really neat about the site are features called "Fan Posts" and "Fan Shots" wherein readers comments and links get to be highlighted in the sidebar. You can read up on how they work at the main page of Sports Blog Nation. In essense, the most popular reader comments get their own post and thread, and it is a great opportunity to take center stage with your opinions on things both pro and con. The site works much like Habs Inside Out, in that readers willing to comment must register. It is a very simple process once you get started. There is an e-mail link to me as usual down the left sidebar if anyone has any questions about how things work there. I hope you all enjoy the new place. I know it is going to be a fun challenge for me. The new link is: http://www.habseyesontheprize.com/ http://www.sbnation.com/

Was reading your latest article on Jersey but I didn't understand the paragraph about Tom Kurvers. He ended up in Toronto who later offered him to New Jersey for a first round pick. Then how would New Jersey be able to pick Scott Niedermayer with a draft pick they traded away?

The Devils say no to drugs. At least they did in the 1980's. http://dennis-kane.com/

I wish the habs would just get rid of lats, he is a baby crying to reporters about his not playing. Somebody should tell him, If it wasn't for his last name he wouldn't even be playing with the Habs. It's time that the Habs look into getting another D man, they are really struggling on the p play and they could replace 71 or 25. I love the fact the d'agostini played we'll, puts pressure on the coach to keep him, I just hop politics does not Interfere. The Habs are playing very good hockey, I believe with a good D man this team has a chance.

I'd like to see the Habs trade Latendresse to Minnesota for Marc-Andre Bergeron. He could be the replacement for Mark Streit that the Habs need to boost their power play, since he's a hard shooting defenceman. I've read that the Wild are considering moving one of their defencemen too, and since he's a UFA in the summer, they may be willing to part with him for a younger & cheaper forward. It also helps that Gainey and Riseborough are friends and have done a smaller deal in the recent past.

I hope no sympathy is expected of me regarding the travails of the intrepid HI/O reporters and their relationship with G.M. Gainey.

Here in Sault Ste Marie everyone is pumped about D'agostini excelling with the Habs. The Sault has had some exciting players in the NHL (Ron Francis, Espositos etc) and Matt is continuing that history!!! I could be wrong but I believe the last Sault Native to play for Montreal was Paul DiPietro and he was on the 1993 Stanley Cup Champions and scored the first and last goal of the final game! ------------------- Individual records are nice to get, but before the season starts, you want to play to win the Stanley Cup! ~ Guy Lafleur

Totally! It was awesome to see a good Soo boy do well! Gotta love it when the double S-M represents. Go Habs! Go Hounds!

Good for you, in Sault Ste Marie! A lot of Habs fans there?

DMAN's picture
I wish there were more. Most are Leafs Fans but there are a fair amount of Canadiens fans around. Canadiens fans came out in abundance here during the playoffs last year. Lots of Habs memorabilia floating around then. We all have one thing in common though, we all love our Greyhounds (OHL) ------------------- Individual records are nice to get, but before the season starts, you want to play to win the Stanley Cup! ~ Guy Lafleur

You know what really annoyed me? All night the stupid CBC announcers were saying: "Wow, it must so tough to change pads for one game, bla, bla bla.." HE'S BEEN WEARING THEM FOR PRACTICE! Jesus those guys are idiots. http://habsinsideout.com/images/9232 http://habsinsideout.com/images/10414 http://habsinsideout.com/images/11315 http://habsinsideout.com/images/11572

How about this Bob Cole's doozy when D'Ago took the lovely top-left corner goal: "Oh my god, he can also shoot too!" ---------- "We all wore the same costume as Maurice Richard did; the red-white-and-blue costume of the Montréal Canadiens, the best hockey team in the world." - Roch Carrier

Actually I'm pretty sure it was Jim Hughson.

I heard that stupid words as well. I couldn't belive my hearing, thought I caught the wrong words... They should transfer the Hockey Night Canada to a third party TV.

I've gotta say that, thouhg Don Cherry and the HNIC guys have certainly earned thier whipping-boy status, last night's coverage (especially sans Cherry) was fabulous. I wish we had Hughson covering montreal more. And the Dick Irvin interview with Beliveau was wonderful. Any time Irvin comes back to the CBC it fills me with glee. Dare I say a "statement night" for the CBC?
